With just five games played out, Saturday satisfaction always looked unlikely. It’s fitting however, that with the big guns yet to be primed, we saw a handful of mid-price players come to the fore and deliver long overdue returns. Fitting and just little bit painful.

Jamie O’Hara started proceedings, blasting a dramatic equaliser to earn Wolves an unlikely point. Full of industry, creativity and threat, O’Hara has been an influential figure, without delivering returns for those brave enough to take a punt. Subject of our recent Members’ Monitor article and, just a couple of gameweek’s later, O’Hara has at last broke his duck. It was coming.

The start of something special? With City up next and three away games in four, it seems unlikely. Even so, O’Hara could yet figure on our radars should McCarthy get Wolves earning victories again.

A few hours later, Sunderland’s Stephane Sessegnon – another mid-price midfielder who has failed to live up to his pre-season billing, earned Steve Bruce three points with a victory at the Reebok.

Ironically, Sessegnon’s first goal of the season coincided with his shift back to the flank, as Bruce paired Connor Wickham and Nicklas Bendtner in his forward line. The Dane later converted a second for the Black Cats; Sessegnon providing the assist and fetching a belated 10-point return for the few thousand Fantasy managers who had kept the faith. Expect bonus points to follow on Monday morning and, with three home games in four to come, suddenly β€œSess” is back in the game and blinking bright.

While Sunderland prevailed at Bolton, Yohan Cabaye also fired his first goal of the season to hand North East rivals Newcastle the points. The Frenchman is another Fantasy prospect that’s been touted as overdue returns. Having delivered just a couple of assists thus far, Cabaye gleefully converted to keep the Magpies buoyant and Wigan resigned to the relegation spots.

Unlike Sessegnon, Cabaye’s stock seems unlikely to rise from today’s success. Alan Pardew is now set to steer his happy ship through choppy waters, three away trips in four with Stoke, City and United presenting three of the toughest destinations around. Cabaye’s next significant return could be a good few weeks away.

Is anyone out there feeling smug? Is there really any Fantasy manager with O’Hara, Sessegnon and Cababye tucked away in their lineup? There can’t be many and yet, there will be plenty who have owned at least one of them previously, now pondering what might have been.

Having been threatening to return all season, the trio chose today to get off the mark – a day which seems set to see such modest scoring for many. That only fuels the frustration and makes their late delivery all the more difficult to accept.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Yes I'm regretting it - was unduly influenced by my closest rival having him and didn't want him to steal a few points on me as we're close.

Worth transferring him in for QPR at home surely? After today, I remember why I got rid of him in the first place...

Interesting little fact. 15% of "players" own G. Bale. He's the 6th highest owned midfielder (and not a cheap bench warmer at that) but only the 45th highest scoring.

you should keep him for the swansea game at least but i think wba will be a tough match next week (just like i said norwich would be a tough game this week)

Yeah – wondering if I should reverse that this week and get Ade in for QPR at home. Absurd to waste a couple of transfers like that, but Suarez always seems to flatter to deceive.

        Worth it you’ll reckon?

i would probably say no, save your trannies and stick with your original decision as switching between 2 players can lead to great frustration

Honestly do not know why anyone would transfer Adebayor out for a more expensive striker unless it's RVP/Aguero/Roondog. The guy is all value.

Blackburn have been on the up recently, I expect them to give Tottenham a tough game. Although I was very impressed with Tottenham and Walker in particular on Thursday evening against Kazan.

Damn, was looking like a great start to the weekend when Swansea was up 2-0, bloody Wolves have to score a quick couple and turn Vorm/Naylor's 13 points into 4.

    Mutts!

Drogba captain over Suarez and RVP. Suarez tick!

C'mon Drogba a big performance from Chelsea and my crazy risk might just come off, especially if RVP is benched

Is it a waste of a transfer?

          My current team reads

          Vorm, Krul
          Bosingwa, Kompany, Enrique, Simpson, Ward
          Young, Silva, Mata, Dyer, Moses
          RVP, Adebayor, Agbonlahor

Don't see any other glaringly obvious transfers.

Could have been so very different with Suarez today, kind of funny that all the people come out after the event to say it was a dumb captain choice. I bet the same people would be saying they were thinking of captaining him if he had scored big.

That's the problem with Suarez though, and one of the reasons I got rid of him weeks ago: every week the match reports say how well he played and how very close he was to tearing the game apart, yet he just... doesn't. Every week "it could have been so very different" for him, yet it rarely, if ever, is.

Unfortunately, being a great player doesn't necessarily make you a great FPL player.

Rooney could get one tomorrow, I'm hoping it stays tight early on and no sendings off, or we could see quite a high scoring game I think.

I'd love it if they took the approach QPR have this week, that the best chance they have of winning is to turn it into a shoot-out.
