We’ve pared down our approach to Scout Notes, focusing instead on specific individuals as opposed to analysing each and every team this time. With another five fixtures still to follow today, here are some of the main points of note from Saturday’s games:

Luis Suarez

Backed by so many Fantasy managers going into the clash with Norwich, the Uruguayan found himself pitched against an inspired goalkeeping performance from John Ruddy. Suarez was, once again, superb but wasted opportunities and was denied by the woodwork twice. That will be no consolation to his owners, and particularly those who handed him the armband. Given the fact that Suarez will have recorded several efforts off target and failed to score over the 90 minutes, it will be interesting to see if he misses out on Fantasy Premier League (FPL) bonus when they’re handed out on Monday.

John Ruddy

Few Fantasy managers would have been bold enough to select John Ruddy for yesterday’s trip to Anfield with any real confidence. The Canaries keeper produced a series of saves to break Liverpool hearts- according to his FPL stats, Ruddy defied the home side 8 times and stands a decent chance of returning some bonus when the points are handed out tomorrow morning.

Demba Ba

The in-form striker went into the clash with Wigan with five goals in his last three matches and found the backing of many Fantasy managers as a result. It was a frustrating day for Ba however and, having seen a second-half header stopped on the line by Ali Al Habsi, he was replaced by Shola Ameobi on 68 minutes. Ba’s ability to string back-to-back matches together remains a concern and the statistics show that he has failed to complete 90 minutes all season. Ba has been subbed off in each of his last five games and with Ameobi showing form and Hatem Ben Arfa now fit, Ba’s partnership with Leon Best is under pressure.

Jamie O’Hara

At last, the influential Wolves midfielder returned some Fantasy points with a second-half strike that earned Mick McCarthy’s side an unlikely point against Swansea. Featured in our recent Monitor article for Members, O’Hara has been a consistent performer for Wolves this season – our Members need only examine his current ICT Index placing to see just how influential he’s been. Saturday’s goal was, however, his first tangible Fantasy points in what has been a frustrating season. Should Wolves enjoy a positive spell of results, there’s no doubt that O’Hara could come to the fore.

Danny Graham

A goal and an assist at Molineux continued Graham’s promising spell and brought him further to the attention of Fantasy managers. Like Steve Morison at Norwich, Graham has adjusted well to the top flight and is offering decent budget potential up front. Sadly, with Daniel Sturridge and Demba Ba almost in the same price bracket, the Swan’s striker has been largely neglected as a Fantasy option. The Swansea midfield options, with Scott Sinclair the Rolls Royce, ably assisted by Nathan Dyer and Joe Allen in the budget bracket, remain the more likely attractions. Allen came to fore with a goal in the 2-2 draw – a prospect raised by Big Dunc in this week’s Differentials.

Chris Brunt

Just a week after rewarding his owners with a goal in the 2-0 defeat of Wolves, the Baggies skipper fluffed a first-half penalty at Villa to lose them points. Brunt may well lose spot-kick duties to the recalled Peter Odemwingie as a result. Brunt did at least demonstrate his worth from set-pieces, flighting the corner for Jonas Olsson’s equaliser and then providing another assist from a corner for Paul Scharner’s winner.

Shane Long

According to Roy Hodgson, the Irishman has suffered a serious knee injury as a result of Alan Hutton’s reckless challenge. Long was forced off mid-way through the first half and will undergo scans early next week. Should he face a spell out of the side, this would see Odemwingie installed as a certain starter in the central attacking role and, more intriguingly, Somen Tchoyi would be boosted as a Fantasy option – he would seem likely to come into the side to partner Odemwingie should Hodgson keep faith with 4-4-2.

Stephane Sessegnon

After failing to live up to his potential following a superb pre-season and with early promise shown in terms of goal threat, Sessegnon suddenly exploded in the 2-0 win at Bolton. Significantly his performance coincided with a change of formation from Steve Bruce with Connor Wickham brought in to the lead the line alongside Nicklas Bendtner. The Dane, along with Sessegnon, seemed to drift behind Wickham and offer support on either flank and had a hugely effective game as a result. With three strong home fixtures to come in the next four and, with Sunderland showing positive form, Sessegnon, along with Bendtner, could now start attracting interest once again having seen his price drop from 6.5 to 6.1 in the FPL.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

On a more interesting note, I keep considering D Graham but just think that 3 big hitters up front is the way forward in the next few weeks with Rooney, RVP, Aguero, Adebayor & Suarez in demand ...

Problem with Liverpool wasnt Suarez , it was tthat Suarez had nobody to pass to . Has to take on everything himself , would be the assist king if he had anyone to link up with. Deseratly unlucky not to score at least one

What is the best football app for android? One that updates quickly and shoes goals and assists. I've tried espn score centre, premier league news centre, sky sports news, barclays football... none of them seem to show assists. I always have to go to the bbc website and look at their live text which is a bit of a hassle.

    What does everyone else use?

I think ade is essential to any front line given his price. If he plays the same minutes as those three he should be within 20 points of them between now and end of season, making the extra 3-4m a liitle bit wasteful. I think ade + 2 from (RVP/Rooney/aguero/torres) depending on your midfield big hitter coverage is the way to go. Of course bendtner and sturridge are also interesting choices. Too many good strikers to choose from thi yr imo.

I do have a hunch torres is about to do some serious points scoring from next week onwards though, but that has been said in the past also! 🙂

Cunning Stunts had an interesting post the other day, trying to guess the British 2012 Olympic Team.

I thought it was hard, considering all the rules the 3 FA’s has put together.

Instead, this is the team I would WANT to see (rules: 18 player squad, 15 players must be born after January 1st 1989).

    GK: Joe Hart*
    RB: Kyle Walker
    CB: Phil Jones
    CB: Chris Smalling
    LB: Kieran Gibbs
    RM: Theo Walcott
    CM: Scott Parker*
    CM: Jack Wilshere
    LM: Gareth Bale (Wales)
    FW: Danny Welbeck
    FW: Wayne Rooney*

Subs: Declan Rudd (GK), Steven Caulker (CB), Craig Cathcart (LB) (Northern Ireland), Tom Cleverley (CM), Jordan Henderson (CM), Andy Carroll (FW), Daniel Sturridge (FW)

    * senior players

They will put two scots, two welshies and two northern irish in the squad at least imo.

      Bale & Ramsey for Wales
Charlie Adam and a youngster for the scotts.
      2 NI youngsters.

Agree with Big Oak and as such can't see Rooney getting the nod sadly (2 international tournaments before the season starts? - Fergie, quite rightly, says NO!)
For same reason I think Scott Parker, Theo Walcott, Wilshere and Jones will probably be out, Joe Hart might be allowed because goalkeepers have less injury risk.
It'll be the second tier and England U21 regulars that don't go to Poland that'll get the nod and I wouldn't be massively surprised to see Beckham given a swansong as one of the pros - he is after all an ambassador for the games, a global superstar and a nice figurehead for the squad even if he only plays part-games.

I'm in the market for a reliable max 6.1 midfielder and would appreciate some advice!

Have Cabaye and can't get Sinclair. Have narrowed it down to:

Walters - Forward position and on Penalties but doesn't seem to offer much else but the odd goal. Good fixtures. But Stoke don't score much.

Sessegnon - Dropped in price due to poor returns but seems to be linking well with 'Nicklas 'The Talent' Bendtner. Good fixtures.

Brunt - Hitting form it seems. Probably off penalties. Free kicks and corners. 5.8m. Some tough fixtures.

Any recommendations? Or somebody else I should be looking? M Petrov? Bannan etc?

Probably brunt. He should be top scoring mid In the game at this stage if 2 penalty incidents so far had gone differently (odem miss gw4 & brunt miss yday). At that rate youd have to fancy him to be at least top 10 this yr if not top 5 mids in terms of pts. Nice & cheap too.

Morning , I dont normally do this but i'm struggling here and would really apprecaite any opinions
    My team:
    GIVEN (Vorm)
    KOMPANY ENRIQUE R.JOHNSON (simpson, rangel)
    NANI SILVA MATA RAMSEY (brunt)
    SUAREZ STURRIDGE ADEBAYOR

Liverpool's fixture list looks tricky, and Suarez, although good value, seems to be lacking a cool finish and/or a cool head to play someone else in.. I also think its time to get Leighton Baines back, ideally for R.Johnosn who isnt living up to his billing a solid defender and genuine goal threat. I'd also like a good United investment as their fixtures are nice all tyhway to January. So my options look like:

!) R.Johnson, Nani, Suarez > Baines, Ferguson, Rooney

    2) R.Johnson, Brunt, Suarez > Baines, Ferguson, Djeko/Ballotelli

    3) Kompany, Brunt > Baines, Ferguson (if Kompany and brunt both go up 0.1)

What can you tell me chaps?

Do you really need to touch that team? You're doing OK, and the transfers you're thinking about seem pointless tbh. Why Baines? And Ferguson? One of these would mean a -4 point hit right? Save the transfer for something more urgent.

baines at 7.9 or so is very cheap for what he can offer, playing virtually as left winger, with free-kicks and corners in a team with many good headers in it, not to mention pens and defence bonuses

I've got Scott Sinclair and while I find no justifiable reason to sell him...

He's not been that good. Two penalties (a couple of assists too, sure) could have been the difference between the likes of Adel Taarabt not being considered a flounder too.

It's very fine lines. I'll be much happier when I see him score from open play.

To be fair, if I had gone for Ferguson over Victor '2 Point' Moses, I would of had to play my 4th choice defender every week which would have got me an extra 15-20 points so far 🙁

had this argument before. if people think it helps their team having an extra .5 mill instead of an extra sub (which is not required 9 times out of 10) then whats wrong with that. yes i do have him and doing pretty well at that, when weather worsens and fixtures are in doubt he will be out (and with an extra .1 mill in my bank as well hopefully)

Just pointing out it's not merely in hindsight:

    October 21 at 9:46 pm
    CORRIGAN SAYS:
This is the final time I mention this, but I really wouldn’t cappo Suarez if I owned him. Really flatters to deceive FPL wise. IMO if you have RVP then plump for him.
Had both at the back end of last season. RVP was awesome with the occasional let down v bla and sun.
Meanwhile, Pool were on fire and Suarez barely picked up any points, despite playing well.
    Just sayin’

Yeah, I appreciate it is not a very endearing thing to do, but it's one of the few things I've been certain on this season and to see people bringing him in for 4 points, instead of Roo and captaining him has been like car crash telly.

My only other two concrete predictions are that Woodgate is Ledley King MkII who doesn't train everyday. Enrique is a Konchesky MKII. Since Benitez, when have Pool guaranteed CSs?

Additionally, Pool's fixtures were overhyped. Beyond Swans, only QPR is a decent fixture until they play Blackburn.

Hopefully today shall forever be known as "RVP Day". He still has only 10% ownership in FPL, it doesn't bear thinking about how muvh a 15-pointer from him today will do for the ranking of those brave souls who have handed him the armband. Combined with quiet games for rooney/silva/aguero/nani/young in the derby it is setup perfectly for an RVP masterclass.

Come on robin, you can do it!!!

I don't buy all this "Suarez isn't clinical" humbug. His goalscoring record speaks for itself, and looking at the goals he has scored in the PL, many have been beautifully taken. His problem lies with his temperament. A cricket score is just round the corner.

He was truly brilliant yesterday. If Liverpool didn't have him they would have lost to Norwich as they did next to nothing without him*.

Seeing him hit the post in person, Twice, was absolute agony. Especially the second one which was right in my line of sight.

His worst problem, however, is the fact he "fell over in a challenge" umpteen times when he didn't need to and could have ridden it and easily broken free into a good position instead gaming for a free kick and then moaning when not getting one.

He is a fool. A brilliant fool.

*I know Bellamy scored, but that was an aberration really.

his diving may may not be very easy pn the eye, but the main issue is he never, ever, ever gets his head up when he's in and around the box.
