Despite the game at Old Trafford grabbing most of the headlines, today’s Scout Notes has more than little Dutch flavour to it after Arsenal, Spurs and Everton all grab wins in Sunday afternoon’s fixtures. Here’s our round-up of yesterday’s games from a Fantasy perspective…

Royston Drenthe

A first start for the Dutchman saw him produce the goods as Everton ended Fulham’s unbeaten home league record. Drenthe has been used sparingly since his loan move but has presented a strong case for a continued role in David Moyes’ first XI following his display at the Cottage. A goal and 2 assists helped him to the maximum bonus points and he is now second-top FPL scoring player for Everton, despite limited game time. Currently a member of just 0.4% of Fantasy squads, he’s likely to take a substantial jump from Gameweek 12 onwards, as Everton’s fixtures improve considerably.

Mario Balotelli

Unlucky not to grab any bonus points this weekend, the Italian’s consistency has taken a dramatic upturn over the last few fixtures. Having played just twenty minutes in the first five games of the season, Balotelli’s brace at Old Trafford means he has now found the net in each of City’s last four league games and is looking a viable Fantasy prospect. While he claims there’s a new-found maturity to his game, there are a couple of other factors to his recent run in the first-team. Edin Dzeko’s tantrum at Bayern coupled with Sergio Aguero’s groin injury afforded Balotelli virtually a full game at Blackburn, while his European suspension helped him to more league time, with the aforementioned pair rested for Champions League action. With his suspension now over, he could be more prone to league rotation.

James Milner

A little like Adam Johnson, Milner –when picked- clearly has the potential to produce for City. Yesterday’s game saw him make his third start in a row for Roberto Mancini’s side, however, and he’s now overtaken Samir Nasri’s Fantasy total for the season. Milner’s game is clearly suited to the new bonus scoring system, too; somewhat bizarrely, he has now picked up more bonus than David Silva, despite playing almost two hundred and forty minutes less than the Spaniard.

David Luiz

Andre Villas-Boas’ decision to start Luiz over Branislav Ivanovic wasn’t the most inspired selection of his Chelsea tenure. Aside from conceding the penalty that helped QPR to a 1-0 win, Luiz looked ill-at-ease throughout and his display, if anything, could well have a positive impact on Ivanovic’s future game time at centre-half. In turn, this could help cement Jose Bosingwa’s future at right-back; Chelsea have been poor at the back this season and Luiz’s introduction further undermined this aspect of their game- his poor performance will certainly have given his manager food for thought, with the unexpected defeat depriving the Blues of a chance to leapfrog Man United into second place.

Robin Van Persie

When the team sheets were announced yesterday afternoon, many a Fantasy manager’s heart sank with the news that the Dutchman was benched for the visit of Stoke. While Gervinho ultimately outscored his skipper Fantasy-wise, with a goal, 2 assist s and 3 bonus points, Van Persie-once again- produced the goods for Arsene Wenger’s side, despite just twenty-five minutes game time. Although the Gunners away form has been woeful, with one point from four games, they have now won four in a row at the Emirates and Van Persie has ran riot in recent weeks- he has now scored twice in each of his last three home games.

Rafael Van der Vaart

Two more goals from Van der Vaart means he’s scored five in his last four games now. Spurs’ poor start to the campaign is a distant memory and with five wins in six, they’ll go into this weekend’s home game with QPR as huge favourites. The Dutchman’s maximum bonus award has seen him pick up 11 for the season now, more than any other player in FPL. It’s clear that if Harry Redknapp continues to play him in the hole behind Emmanuel Adebayor, Van der Vaart looks capable of racking up the Fantasy points time after time and with a strong run of fixtures ahead, looks set for heavy investment.

Anton Ferdinand

The QPR centre half has slipped under the radar of most Fantasy managers thus far, though yesterday’s performance further increased his potential. Ferdinand’s move to Loftus Road has seen him return 3 clean sheets and 7 bonus points in his six appearances for Neil Warnock’s side. Similar to Milner, his game seems to suit the new bonus system, though Ferdinand is a guaranteed starter- he is now just 1 bonus point behind Steven Taylor, though the Newcastle centre-half has picked up just a single bonus in the last six Gameweeks, in comparison.

Heidar Helguson

Drafted into the QPR starting for the misfiring Jay Bothroyd in Gameweek 8, Helguson has fully vindicated Neil Warnock’s decision. Yesterday’s penalty was his second goal in two games- Bothroyd had failed to find the net in the previous seven matches. With DJ Campbell injured for around two months with a foot problem, Helguson’s chances of leading the line for QPR over the next few gameweeks look strong, though with a tricky run of fixtures on the horizon, his chances of returning the Fantasy points perhaps don’t look too prosperous.

Having watched all of our games this season several times, I really think we will struggle away from home. Next week against Arsenal I think we'll win but it will be a high scoring match imo.

Well, our midfield is more encouraged to go forward, especially Ramires, our holding midfielder is now an attacking mid and Jose Bosingwa is back in the team. I dont mind us conceding more goals as long as we score more than the opposition, but when we begin to look fragile (which we dont) it starts to become a problem. I think it will sort itself out. Also, David Luiz, as I have said before, though a good player, is a liability in defence- that wasn't a pen against QPR but he should never have done what he did to give Ovrebo the oppurtunity to award a pen. I think our next two fixtures are massively important for our season.

not sure where you are comign from regarding holding mid, Mikel played there yesterday.

I would like to see Mikel dropped. Its such a shame that Essien is injured again as he can play there and still drive forward. We are still shackled by the fact that Makelele was so good. Mikel is not in his league and we shouldnt try and play that way. It only worked because of Makelele, the only player i have seen who is remotely similar since is Mascherano.

He didn't look too bad coming off, might miss the Everton game but should be back for the Arsenal game, if he does miss the Everton game its most likely to save him for the Arsenal game anyway, I think you should do it. Mata is a very good player but VDV is Spurs' main man.

my WC decisions basically come down to whether i can manage without David Silva. Ideally i'd have him and Aguero...but having to choose between the two...i think i might keep Aguero.

But the one thing EVERYONE says on here is that he should be no.1 priority...
I think Ageuro and Silva will play similar amount of mins over the season tbh...and so far Aguero is winning the points per game....

Taking a 4 point hit (my only hit this season) to get Brown, Cabaye and Rooney in for Bent, O'Hara and Cole in GW6. Brown and Cabaye got like 2 points and Rooney never played.

Depsite that, I still got 65 points for that week

i heard about 5 big up front in this site a few weeks ago so now I'm still using it.
But seeing the top players overall now, we see that they just have 3-4 big up front.
Do this formula isnt suit for this season because they have some good cheap FW as: Agbonlahor, Ba, Adebayor

    show your thought 😀

depends if you leave yourself short of cover of other sides with good fixtures.

You can have 3 arsenal players for their fixtures but if they have a bad week you will reallly struggle. best to try and get a balanced squad so if one side underperforms your score for the week can still be decent.

A Cole and N'Zonzi cunningly got themselves booked at the weekend so they would be out for the cup game. I hate that, League cards should be a league ban imo.

Hello. What would anyone suggest doing with this team, 2FT’s and 0.1m in the bank.

    Krul, Vorm
Bosingwa, Enrique, Hutton, Raylor, De Laet
    Mata, Nasri, Nani, Petrov, Dyer
    Suarez, Adebayor, RVP

Obvious thing is bin De Laet for Wilkinson, but this week has raised concerns about many of my team. Nasri is on the brink of a binning, but it would seem potentially suicidal to do it ahead of Wolves at home.

I’m very tempted to get on the VDV train, would probably mean ditching Mata, who I quite like, and downgrading Hutton… really wanted to trust the Villa defence, but if you cant keep a cleanie at home to West Brom…

    Any suggestions?

ok. school time: what do you like about Mata? this game is about picking the players getting the points, not the players you want as your mate.

dont do wilkinson. you should go barnett or mcauley

He's a good player, reckon he's got fantasy points in him, and the run of fixtures isnt that bad, and he's my only attacking Chelsea cover. Why not Wilkinson? Seems to be playing at the moment, and I'd only use him for Stoke home games. Not convinced by Norwich defenders (got that wrong with De Laet already).

          this is exactly it.
"seem to be playing at the moment" and "reckon he go points in him" is only short term & promises. only begovic and shawcross is nailed on in the stoke defence. and there are a lot of midfielders racking up points in bucketloads, while Mata is being left behind.

what was wrong with de leat is that he doesnt play. tierney and if the norwich manager has his head on his shoulders, barnett look good options

Hutton should also have got a red card. It was a far more dangerous challenge than Drogbas which the ref gave a red straight away for. Long is lukcy he doesnt have a broken leg after that.

Yeah, it was nasty. Although for fantasy thinking I'm more concerned that Villa aren't getting me the clean sheets I want from them! With Newcastles fixtures about to get tough too, my defence needs a rework.

Anyone think nasri is worth keeping in my team

    plus side

He is a great differential better by the day.

He scores good points when he actually starts.

Milner wasnt playing much at the start of the season and now he is playing alot , samir could do the same soon who knows.

    negatives

He hasnt started in last few games.

His price is high so if he doesnt start his value to my team is dropping.

    Thoughts on him

Same quandry mate. Had the choice of him or Silva when on W/C in week 4, and went Nasri for the differential. His one big game apart, I couldnt have got it more wrong. I'm trying to think of ways to rectify it, I just know I'll get rid just before his next big haul though. Will probably keep him for Wolves, then bin him.
