Our pre-Friday dinnertime regular looks at three of the crucial tussles ahead in gameweek ten. Gervinho will be looking to maintain his recent impressive showings as he’s pitted against Jose Bosingwa, Aaron Lennon’s pace could be the undoing of QPR’s problematic left-back slot, while an injury to Dedryk Boyata could allow Gretar Steinsson to prove his worth to Bolton in a Liberty Stadium encounter with Scott Sinclair…

Gervinho vs Jose Bosingwa

The Arsenal winger is starting to look like the rampaging force of nature that helped Lille to the Ligue 1 crown last season. Gervinho has endured a tentative start to his Gunners career, hardly helped by his dismissal in the season opener at Newcastle, but the last couple of gameweeks have seen him explode into form with an average of 10 points per game in the last two fixtures. With form and confidence his allies, he’ll fancy his chances at the Bridge tomorrow lunchtime.

Caught out by the pace of Shaun Wright-Phillips at Loftus Road last weekend, Jose Bosingwa’s dismissal proved significant in Chelsea’s 1-0 defeat. Having served his one-match ban in the midweek Carling Cup tie at Everton, the Portuguese right-back returns to the first-team fold against the Gunners and while his attacking forays down the flank have impressed, a lack of defensive awareness leaves him liable to counter-attacks. Gervinho will be looking to expose his frailties at the back and he’ll have a task on his hands against the speedy Ivorian.

Aaron Lennon vs Clint Hill

A return to action at Ewood Park ended a five-game league absence for Aaron Lennon. Hampered by a groin injury for much of the campaign, his inclusion in the Spurs first-team affords the side a natural width down the right flank that had been missing over the previous few weeks. His explosive pace and direct running, backed by the adventure of Kyle Walker from right-back, adds an extra element to Tottenham’s play.

Hill was recalled from his loan spell at Nottingham Forest last weekend with Armand Traore missing out due to a strained abductor muscle. While Traore’s pace will be ideal in coping with Lennon, doubts still hang over his fitness and Hill could be called into action once again. Two red cards for Chelsea last week meant he was never truly tested but at White Hart Lane, against a red-hot Tottenham, he may well be wishing he was still back at the City Ground.

Scott Sinclair vs Gretar Steinsson

Spot-kicks aside, the Swansea flier has proved pivotal to his side’s dominant home displays, offering plenty of attacking verve and invention from wide left. Sinclair’s showings in his first full Premier League season have underlined his ability to perform on a higher stage and Brendan Rodgers will be reliant on him to torment an out-of-sorts Trotters as the Welsh side look to make it three home wins in a row.

Steinsson has been far from impressive in the eyes of Owen Coyle this season. The Icelandic international had fallen out of favour to such an extent that the Bolton boss had dropped him from his match squad completely, with on-loan Dedryk Boyata nailing down the right-back slot since arriving from Man City. Today’s confirmation of a six-week period on the sidelines for Boyata due to ankle ligament damage looks like giving Steinsson a second chance, though, and he’ll take to the field this weekend with plenty to prove.

Don't really care, tbh. I lost patience with him and shipped him out -- he's just not been earning his keep so I got rid and replaced him with walker.

It has been amazing the number of people asking about whether bos can play this weekend. Hopefully, now sir paulos has put it in black and white we'll see the end of the question.

On reflection, I'm sure the question will come up sometime this evening...sigh

RVP only 2% on the captain poll interesting could be a good differential. Another could be Ade.

Surely VDV wont score again because that would be at least 1 goal in his last 5 games.I would pick Silva if he was nailed on 90 minutes though.

I've gone vdv but hate being at the end of things in this game. I might switch to Silva but scared of the dreaded 1 point. Even if he starts I could see him getting pulled before the hour if City are 2-3 up.

only 2% . I have been struggling to decide between VDV, RVP, Roooney & Silva. Now i am sold RVP it is a 2% the differential is worth the gamble. Oh and I don't think Chelsea are really capable of clean sheets

Bale, Parker, Sandro, Modric, VDV, Lennon and... Pienaar! All fit and raring to go. Good time for the Spurs midfield. 4-5-1/4-4-1-1 for the foreseeable future?

It's been a 4-4-1-1 mostly anyway, only when Defoes on the pitch has it been anything else. Too many good midfielders though, why won't Redknapp start using a 4-2-3-1 ffs.

      ---------------------Sandro-----Parker--------------------

      -----------vDV-----------Modric--------Bale-------------

      --------------------------Adebayor------------------------

Walker can provide the width on the right and Bale can continue playing as he has been.

VDV isn't as effective on the right though... he said himself he doesn't like it and was angry at 'Arry for playing him there. It's tough 'cos Parker and Sandro are excellent together and let Modric play freely, but VDV is just best suited to a central role and even though I don't rate Lennon too highly compared to the rest of the midfield, having him and Bale on the wings is reeeeally tough for any defence to deal with. I can't personally pick a best formation (and I've tried).

It's the best kind of selection headache! Unless you're Defoe, and then you're stuffed.

Heh, yeah...mostly true (especially when it comes down to Defoe). Lennons stagnated and on paper he isn't good enough, his style of play definitely causes problems for the opposing side though - Bale and Lennon on either wing is probably the paciest combination in Europe.

With the formation i suggested, i reckon vDV will move more central anyway allowing Modric to join a 3 man midfield with Sandro and Parker, mainly sweeping up the right side and feeding Walker. vDVs midfield talents are underrated, he's done brilliant for the Dutch side in the past and having them two in a sort of free role could work, they are both intelligent enough.

Suppose I shouldn't complain about too many captaincy options, but I prefer when I have 1 stand-out option. Any reasoning for why choosing one of these to help me decide?

I had him since GW 1 but his form has dipped - he looked out of sorts againt ManC. Hi form and current fixture again Everton don't make him worth it. vDv on form and fixture is more likely to get points.

If you have other United coverage but not Adebayor then Yes, otherwise United's fixtures clear up after this GW!

If you have Adebayor, and no United coverage then I would say don't bother

My personal opinion is there is no point in bringing in VDV if you have Adebayor and no other United coverage.....

Look at next weeks fixtures and into the future - United have great fixtures.....

You WILL bring back in Nani after this GW!

Do Spurs keep clean sheets? - missing a few defenders, personally not with a barge pole.

R.Taylor has done me proud this season when playing him at home, but if I was to swap would have to be for a Stoke defender and then play him at home too!

Suarez -> Adebayor (who would then be my captain) for a 4 point hit?

Front 3 all away and have tough games, and I don't think Silva will see more than 20 mins tomorrow.

Alot of confidence in VDV this week, and i can see why.

However, considering people are being put off captaining Aguero by the fact he won't play 90 mins, why does the same not stand for VDV? Can't remember the last time i saw him play 90 mins...
