With Matchday Four of the UEFA Champions League (UCL) Fantasy Game kicking off in just a few hours, we’ve updated the European Watchlist for your convenience. Here follows our shining lights for the next two evenings …

Marseille have turned a corner domestically since moving to a 4-4-2 formation but whispers from abroad hint that Didier Deschamps may revert to the 4-5-1 that has seen them struggle, immediately increasing Wojcech Szczesney‘s potential for a clean sheet.

At 5.0, Anders Lindegaard could prove a risky alternative but he’s played two out of three Champions League ties to date and with United at home to Otelul, could be worth a punt.

When we think of Barcelona, thoughts inevitably turn to their tiki-taka brand of football that sets tongues wagging from here to Timbuktu. The goals keep rolling in, but with nine clean sheets in their last ten games they’ve been solid at the back. Eric Abidal looks a decent shout for the trip to Plzen.

Having averaged 6.7 points over the first three Matchdays, Jerome Boateng of Bayern Munich is a solid option. Priced at just 6.1, he’s as part of the strongest defence to be found amongst our Champions League outfits and with a home game against Napoli, could be in line for another clean sheet tomorrow evening.

With a home tie against Dinamo Zagreb on the horizon, the European Watchlist is bound for the Netherlands with our eyes on the back-line of Ajax. Either of Jan Vertonghen or Toby Alderweireld should be able to fill squads out there- priced at 5.1 and 5.0 respectively, the pair have a penchant for picking up a handy recovered ball bonus point or two as well.

When you have a budget of just 4.1 left to spend on your UCL squads you’re normally left looking amongst the lesser-known lights. Fortunately, Valencia have promoted from within and Victor Ruiz stands out as an easy option ahead of the Spaniard’s home tie with Bayer Leverkusen.

As has been the way to date, we highlighted Borussia Dortmund with a Scout Report last week so, inevitably, we’re going to throw at least one of their players into the mix. German starlet Mario Gotze is that man and with a must-win tie at home to Olympiakos, he’ll need to be on top of his game.

Given that he was on the bench at Everton on Saturday afternoon we’ll take a stab at Luis Nani having a greater than average chance of starting this Matchday and, subsequently, back him to the hilt to come good against Otelul.

It’s hard to deny we’ve picked up a little bit of an infatuation with Porto’s James Rodriguez over the first three Matchdays. With a crucial trip to APOEL on the cards, this forward -classified and priced as a cheap midfielder- more than warrants another shout out around these parts.

If you need someone relatively cheap then Christian Eriksen of Ajax at just 6.0 meets the criteria ahead of the Dutch side’s home clash with Dinamo Zagreb. That still too expensive? Kevin De Bruyne of Genk at 4.5 will want to impress at home to Chelsea, his potential suitors.

Rolling off what has been an incredible month (and year) of goalscoring exploits, Robin Van Persie picks himself – matters are only more pleasing considering the mere 9.0 it’ll set back European managers to invest.

Mario Gomez‘s record in the Bundesliga this last year is equally as frightening. With Napoli paying visit to the Allianz Arena, Bayern will be looking to show some of the home muscle that has seen them rack up 23 goals in five games in Germany’s top-flight this season.

We’ve already mentioned Valencia have a tie at home to Leverkusen this evening. We’re opting for Roberto Soldado, at 7.4, to score the goals needed to keep his side in with a chance of making it to the next stage.

If you need to scrimp and save on your budget then the 4.1 bargain basement price for Ailton of APOEL is hard to turn down. If the Cypriot champions can keep hold of top spot in their group this Matchday, we’d be willing to bet this man is going to be involved.

Please note that deadline for your UEFA Fantasy Champions League team selection will be at the earlier time of 17:45 CET today. This is due to ties kicking off in Russia (Zenit vs Shakhtar) and Belarus (BATE Borisov vs AC Milan) earlier than the six remaining scheduled fixtures today.

Carvalho don't think is going to recover in time.

Rafinha - depends if Bayern want to attack (he is a typical, very attacking Brazilian FB); if they play safe he'll be on the bench

why keep Moses in a wildcard? If he hasn't delivered after 10 weeks and some very, very favourable fixtures then its time to gamble on another cheap one....I'd look to Norwich perhaps for a cheap gamble. Like the rest though, especially the Silva-VDV-RVP axis of points and BAE (my new one to watch)

Moses because he is cheap and worth a punt, I dont have much money to move about. If I could get Cleverley I would

After posting about Silva I have decided to keep him, not because I think he will score well in the next 6 but because I fear not having him when my rivals do.

I took issue with this! Moses is not worth a punt! Just because he's had a few shots and a few good passes in the final third it doesn't mean he is due anything.

That's not to say he won't do something soon, but he definitely not worth keeping!

Disclaimer - I transferred him out last week after 9 weeks of warming my bench and decreasing in value.

Agree, the tinkerman, I got rid of Moses after four weeks....he's just one of those players that will not do much FPL wise. Just one of those things. I got N Dyer in as a replacement...he's earned me a little more, but at least some more pts and also he's increased rather than decreased in value.

Norwich look good for cheapies. QPR's Faurlin as well looks good. Moselli is not for me this season, maybe next.

Ok, I have lost also lost 0.3. If by some miracle he does score he will increase in value giving me 0.1 on every rise. He has been doing the right things, preople said the same about Sess and he came good. Around that price ranger I cant see anyone better

I see your point, I obviously thought the same until last week, but don't forget that Sunderland are actually a decent team whereas Wigan are diabolical at the moment. No goals in the last 2 games tells me they aren't worth owning any attacking players, regardless of price.

I shifted Moses for VDV and Odemwingie for Graham. Graham is 4.8m and he will probably be benched most weeks but at least he's scoring!

Also, if you have two cheap keepers then you could upgrade Moses to someone around the 6m range and there are some good options there!

Perhaps I'm looking for some of that 0.3 back, I dunno.

You will probably never see that .3m left and might lose even more if he does nothing or others in his price range do something.

Sticking with him up to now made sense, especially if you had other, more important transfers to make - transferring out your cheapo midfielder is never a priority. If you've watched his performances, he's deserved a lot better than his string of 2 pointers - hit the woodwork 3 or 4 times, denied by an outstanding save v Newcastle. If he plays at the same level all season he'll score maybe 5-6 goals.

If I was wildcarding, though, pretty sure I'd get rid.

Hi Everyone...I just wanted to check if any of you can confirm this but are there only a select few of international teams playing qualifiers in the international break? I was checking online and could only see a handful of teams listed on the schedule so just want to check if some have already cleared their groups or if everyone was expected to play in the break.

If only a few, I guess it means some players in the Premier League will basically just have a break of 2 weeks...Is this correct?

Jones is the better bet, what a f*cking beast that guy is. My favourite thing about him is that when he dribbles he looks completely out of control of the ball but still manages to hold onto it 🙂

I wouldn't go near the United defence until they show some consistency (in results and in personnel).

Jones would seem the better punt though as he's more likely to get minutes, bones and perhaps attacking points (in my opinion)

Looks good buddy. Strong upfront and big guns in midfield. Nani should start, and i predict a good score for him vs Oteluls

Goalkeepers may be a bit weak, you might want to think about their chances of progressing to knockouts and upgrade one. Have you used your wildcard?

Don't think Inter will keep a clean sheet, but as long as Nagatomo keeps starting you gotta play him!

You could do with Man Utd cover but I'd maybe save the transfer. Your team looks alright to me.

If you do want Utd cover, Dyer > Cleverly is not a bad shout, or even Dyer > Drenthe if you can afford it.

De Gae a risk as he hasn't started the past two - Lindegaard a better shout?

      Other than that looks solid.

You sorted better than I the GK issue but I´m only wildcarding next GW!
Like the Kroos, Götze and V.Ruiz punts but would be worried with Sturridge starting..
      Overall looks pretty good.

          True..did you WC already?
I´m keeping for next GW... Think by then most groups will be sorted and can build a strong team for the next 2 as you have 6 transfers after group stage.

Nope, haven't wc'ed yet. Going to try and keep it for as long as possible, maybe do it for week 6 as most groups will be wrapped up so some teams could spring surprises by fielding weakened teams

      1. Studge won't start IMO. Anelka will.
      2. Never trust Inter's defence.
      3. De Gea is a rotation risk for UCL by the looks of it. I'd rather have Vermeer/Diego Alves and use the $ to upgrade defence.

Regarding Ajax. Siem de Jong will likely be OOP in attack again, although hopefully he doesn't miss as many clear chances as the last game against them. Vertonghen scores a few more goals than Alderweireld and does take the occasional free kick

unlucky. Eriksen wasn't great and only got his goal when Dinamo were pushing forward at the end leaving no one back. de Jong could easily have had a hattrick.

I put that as 2-0 in my predictor, i'd go for both teams to score in -

Zenit St Petersburg v Shakhtar Donetsk
        Valencia v Bayer Leverkusen
        Lyon v Real Madrid
        Villarreal v Man City

Considering various fantasy football related variables (Form, fixtures and possible impending DGWs) who would you rather splash your defensive cash over?
    A) Evra
    B) Baines
    C) Jones
    D) Jones + Baines (take a 4 pt hit)

Id go with D, but you should be careful about Baines. He has been worth his price yet, although with the DGW its tempting me as well

I know but then look at his fixtures and its obvious why he hasn't been. He effectively wasn't supposed to be worth his price up until this week/next week.

    Kompany > P.Jones ?

I think its really worth it. Vincent isnt playing 1 game, Jones has a sun(h) and a whole run of nice games while Komp got liv and ars and che.

    What u think ?

Assuming Jones plays, it could well be worth a punt. I still would take a City defender over a United defender though, even with United's run.
