Scout Scribbles – Rooney Expected to Be Fit for Newcastle Game

Wayne Rooney is set to be fit for tomorrow’s game with Newcastle. Chris Samba looks unlikely to play for Blackburn at Stoke, while Villa will check on Stiliyan Petrov’s sore hamstring later today. It’s a quick Scribbles this morning, ahead of a busy Friday..

Sir Alex Ferguson gave Wayne Rooney’s Fantasy owners something to smile about earlier today. The Man United boss confirmed in his regular Friday morning press conference that he feels Rooney will be fit for tomorrow’s Old Trafford clash against Alan Pardew’s Newcastle. Rooney seems to have shaken off the hip problem he suffered at Swansea last weekend and having missed the midweek Champions League game with Benfica, is looking in good shape to feature.

Fergie announced that while he expects Anderson to be ruled out until February with an ongoing knee problem, he is delighted with the defensive cover now coming back ahead of tomorrow’s game:

Smalling’s fitness is a boost and Rafael is also back, so the defensive part of the team is OK.

Peter Grant is confident that Gabby Agbonlahor and Chris Herd will be available for Aston Villa’s game at Swansea on Sunday. The assistant manager gave an injury update earlier and confirmed Agbonlahor has had no reaction to his return from a hamstring problem, while Herd is looking likely to recover from a leg injury that forced him off at the end of Monday’s game at Spurs. Stiliyan Petrov, however, had a sore hamstring after the Spurs match and will be monitored after today’s training.

Blackburn boss Steve Kean revealed both Chris Samba and Martin Olsson are unlikely to make tomorrow’s game with Stoke. Kean is hopeful Michel Salgado can shake off a hamstring niggle that has bothered the right-back for a number of weeks now, while Ryan Nelsen will return to training with the first-team squad on Monday.

Arsene Wenger gave an update on injured full-backs Carl Jenkinson and Kieran Gibbs yesterday. The Gunners boss confirmed Jenkinson is out for three weeks and Gibbs another four, meaning Andre Santos will continue at left-back for the foreseeable future. Laurent Koscielny filled in at right-back last week and could continue there in Jenkinson’s absence, with Per Mertesacker and Thomas Vermaelen in the centre of defence.

Reports today suggest QPR are looking for a buyer for Adel Taarabt after finally losing patience with the Moroccan. Taarabt has been a bitter disappointment in the Premier League this season, with no goals or assists and the side looked a lot more compact without him at Stoke last weekend- the only problem with any possible deal is that his former club Spurs are entitled to 40% of the transfer fee.

The Mirror report James McCarthy is a doubt for Wigan’s trip to Sunderland with a groin problem. Hugo Rodallega could return to the Latics starting lineup tomorrow- the forward missed last week’s home clash against Blackburn due to a virus but has now recovered.

    My current team is:

    Vorm – (Ruddy)
    Richards – Enrique – R.Taylor – (Turner, McAuley)
    Silva – Nani – VdV – Ramsey – (Allen)
    RvP – Adebayor – Suarez

    I am considering:

    Nani –> Bale and Suarez –> Aguero,

    Good or mental? Looks very strong on paper, but will remove the balance in my team. And eventually Nani and Suarez must come good.

    Any comments? Would appreciate it.

        Wilshere has never been a proven FPL asset tough, which both Nani and Suarez has. My main concern is that having Ade, Bale and VdV creates a very unbalanced side.

        Suarez is also more guaranteed of starts than Aguero. Plus he has some good fixtures coming up after the City game. But, yeah, he is not in any kind of FPL-form (although he scored four goals for Uruguay recently).

      I have 2 issues with your team, I am not too sure Silva will p,ay whole game, Nasri played really well in the last few minutes of the Napoli game. Mancini has also said that Silva finds it difficult to play back to back games.

      Second, Aguero will start and I wouldn't get rid of him. Ramsey to Walcott is a good ,ove but do it after the Fulham game.

        Aguero has pretty bad fixtures che,ars and with UCL rotation i thought I would sell him before he goes down more probably get him back in GW17-18.
        And my private league is a monthly one...so need a transfer to strengthen my team for the last GW...12 points behind leader

        Aguero -> Adebayor or Ramsey -> Walcott (Cant afford Bale)....

            Given to Vorm is a good transfer this week. The rest of your squad is perfectly decent and I wouldn't be rushing to do that Enrique transfer unless you have no other issues at all next week.

      I would think about how you are going to get Everton players in for the double-gameweek in gw20. A long way away yes but since Everton have a good run of fixtures up to that point, you could consider players like Baines or Jagielka at the back, Drenthe and Cahill in midfield or Saha upfront.

      I would think about saving a transfer this week and see what happens. Then, if you want Baines, you can get him without a hit.

      And yes, Evans is definitely the player to think about getting rid of.

    My dilemna: I have Begovic and Krul as my keepers. Whilst Begovic is apparently not starting, I'm left with just the 1 keeper in Krul. The dilemna for me is, transfer Begovic out for a keeper who rotates with Krul, or to stick with Krul through his 2 tough fixtures, and then he'll have a few more simpler games.

      Go for Vorm as they rotate till the January WC. Westwood could lose his place to Gordon soonish then you have to waste another transfer on a GK.

      I'm in a similar situation to you Goose. I have Nani & Rooney and will give them another week. I have 2 frees but will probably just do Begovic to Krul/Westwood.

      Have a bit of cash so could also do Nani to Lamps? You think its worth it for free or will I just want to get rid of Lamps after the Wolves game when the fixtures get harder!

        Im just worried about being annoyed if Nani and Rooney do the business, but they have had plenty of time...

        Lamps is pretty consistant scoring wise so i think just stick with him, after Spurs away they have some decent looking games again.

    Whats the opinion on Santos? Three good fixtures, dropped in price to what he probably should've started at, basically plays OOP whether he's meant to or not and his competition is all injured.

    All sounds good but my Kolarov sense is tingling.

      I have loked at him more than once, great diff. and I think he is capable of bringing an assist or a goal every now and then, still don´t have the guts to bring him in...waiting a little more..

    OUT: Jags/Ramsey
    IN: Baines/O'Hara

    Nice run of fixs for both Eve and Wolves (especially home) so I could, potentially flip O'Hara with NDyer, H/A, or just play O'Hara alongside Walters, DVD & Silva.

    Similar dilemma to above - team is:

    Begovic (Hennessey)
    ShawX / Turner / Walker (JE / Simpson)
    VDV / Walters / Silva / Ramsey (Rodwell)
    Suarez / RVP / Sturridge

    If Begovic is out of favour long term then I should replace him, but would anyone else hold fire? Can take the hit on Hennessey v Chelsea as he has 3 in 4 at home after that and hope Begovic makes his way back into the fold?

    Not sure I need to do any transfers but if there are any gaping holes - excuse the terminology - assistance would be appreciated.

      I would switch Bego. Managers seldom mess about with their GKs, they tend to stick by their pick for a good while and I would expect Sorensen to stay in sticks for a bit (bar obvious cock-ups). Bring in Vorm for Bego, good home fixs, including decent AV this GW, and he rotates well with Hennessey.

        Ok cheers, will check Vorm's rotation with Hennessey.
        Only problem with that is I thoroughly resent paying 0.6 more than his initial value, and wanted to save 2 free's for an overhaul next week.
        I guess it's fair enough but there's something ingrained inside that is reluctant to do it!
