Zoltan Gera is ruled out for the season with a knee injury. Liverpool are set to reveal the findings of Lucas’ knee scan, while Man United picked up a few injury doubts last night’s shock Carling Cup exit to Crystal Palace.

Liverpool have recalled Jonjo Shelvey from his loan spell at Blackpool due to an injury picked up by Lucas in Tuesday’s Carling Cup win at Chelsea. While rumours abound of the severity of Lucas’ problem, the club have released no official statement- Shelvey was due to stay at the Seasiders till the end of the calendar year, suggesting the Brazilian’s return will not be imminent. With Steven Gerrard also injured, Shelvey could find himself thrown straight into the first-team, though Jordan Henderson and Jay Spearing offer other options in the middle. Lucas’ loss, if confirmed, will be a huge blow to the club, with his ball-winning abilities a key contribution to their solid defensive start to the season.

Man United’s shock home defeat by Crystal Palace in the Carling Cup last night also produced some injury worries. The match report on the United website claims Fabio, Rafael and Dimitar Berbatov all picked up injuries in the defeat, with the Bulgarian –subbed off on forty-nine minutes- leaving Old Trafford wearing a protective boot. Fabio and Berbatov picked up hamstring and ankle problems respectively, while Rafael’s is not stated- the club admitted today they are still awaiting news on the injuries

Martin Jol revealed he will be without a couple of key players for Fulham’s Europa League clash with FC Twente tonight. Clint Dempsey will miss out with a slight thigh problem, while Chris Baird stays at home due to personal reasons. Damien Duff and Stephen Kelly have both been included in the Cottagers squad, having recovered from calf and groin injuries respectively.

Reports this morning suggest Roman Pavlyuchenko will return to training tomorrow after scans allayed fears of a knee injury. The Russian suffered the problem in training on Tuesday and missed last night’s Europa League loss to PAOK but looks likely to be part of the squad for Saturday’s home game against Bolton. Jermain Defoe led the line from the start in the defeat, with Fantasy managers hoping this could lead to a weekend return for Rafael Van der Vaart. If the Dutchman was definitely out, Redknapp would perhaps not have risked Defoe, goes many a managers’ line of thinking.

Spurs now stand on the brink of elimination from the competition, with Harry Redknapp moving to defend his selection decision post-match:

We have been lucky so far and the important thing is that we have the players fresh for the Premier League at the weekend. We have changed the team in this competition and that is why we have done so well in the league, where we have won nine and drawn one in our last 10 games. If we had Roman Pavlyuchenko and Giovani Dos Santos fit, we would not have played Luka Modric, Jermain Defoe or Aaron Lennon.

Paul Lambert was given a significant injury boost with the news that both Zak Whitbread and Daniel Ayala completed a ninety minute run out in Norwich’s reserve game against Dereham. The Canaries boss admitted that, if necessary, both could be included for Saturday’s trip to Man City, while Ritchie de Laet has yet to train this week after being subbed off against QPR with a back injury. Elliott Ward has also stepped up his recovery from a long-term knee injury, with Lambert reckoning he could be back within weeks.

Andy Wilkinson is unlikely to feature for Stoke tonight in the Europa League clash with Dynamo Kiev. According to the club’s official website, he passed a late fitness test on calf and knee injuries prior to Saturday’s win over Blackburn but is still being troubled by the problems. His Fantasy owners this gives him enough time to recover before Sunday’s trip to Everton.

West Brom fans are reeling after the news that Zoltan Gera has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a knee injury. The midfielder had missed the start of the campaign through injury and suspension and had only just returned to action in gameweek eleven but lasted just twenty minutes in Saturday’s home loss to Spurs before suffering the injury. More game time for the likes of Peter Odemwingie and Simon Cox now seems likely in the Hungarian’s absence.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

He's averaging 3.6 per game at the moment and Everton have conceded in 11 out of 13 games so far-he seems pretty expensive at £2.5m more and only 1 point better than Jagielka-surely the money can be spent better elsewhere(although so far midfield choices have been in the main mediocre).

I hope so too being a Silva and Aguero owner. But the fact that he benched Silva against Newcastle in a similar situation makes me less than confident. I would suggest people not to captain him for sure.

Real Madrid already 3 points ahead with a game in hand. If they make the gap 9 points, can't really see past Madrid winning it from there

I have 6.8 or 8.5 for a midfielder depends on if I am getting rid of Lampard or VDV, was set on Dempsey if it was for Lampard but I seen he is a doubt for later. Was wondering of anyone could recommend some replacements for each price bracket because I'm really tired and don't wanna go looking. Thanks.

Baines and Cahill COULD be great as they both combine well when playing together. Nice fixtures, DGW on horizon - could be puuurty.

I had them both at the start of the year when Baines crossed to Cahill and he missed a sitter, that wasn't puuurty 🙂

But I'm all for gambles and Cahill is a great pick I think I will definitely be going with him. Will roll a dice to see if I will add Baines to the potion.

    for this GW:

    Vorm
    Enrique, Baines, Jones (Simpson, Brown)
    Mata, Silva, Ramsey, Walters/Rodwell?
    Adebayor, RVP, Sturridge

Quite concerned Walters Ramsey and Rodwell are stale. Walters isnt going to get much these next 4 gameweeks.

Mata > Bale is tempting... Might just leave it as it is and see what happens. hmmm

Please get on the Baines and Ben Arfa bandwagon, had B.A in for weeks upon weeks awaiting his return, and all my transfers leading up to two weeks ago were aimed at freeing up cash for Baines, so the more people transfer them in, the higher in value my team goes! I only wish I had the same foresight with Bale, but already had VdV and Ade since the beginning so didn't feel the need...

Pre-GW12 he had done naff all and everyone had scrapped him. His name was dirt around these parts. He always had it in him to come back, though, hence everyone moving funds around belatedly to try and get him back in.

Yeah but as I, and others, argued he did naff all in fixtures you would expect him to do naff all in. Not everybody is fixture proof but his run of fixtures is well worth him (as it was 2 weeks ago when I got him).

Sure, but then the debate revolves around the word 'bandwagon' – fair enough if you'd argue that it refers to everyone clambering around one player who had a good week or two, only to disappoint therein, I'd suggest that it can include proven players who haven't performed until a certain point (even RvP, who failed to register anything meaningful until GW3, who then became a bandwagon after people got him in their teams after having originally ditched/ignored).

Can we just clear this up because I see this confusion on here about once a day.

Bandwagon: A Fantasy player that many managers are rushing to transfer in. NOTE: this is not nessecarily a negative term.

For example, on the Scoutcast you will often hear M & G discussing which bandwagons are good and which ones are bad. Many many many of the bandwagons that roll over the course of the season, particuarly in the world of the casual managers, turn out to be pretty good, and you can normally get into the top 100,000 by following them.

Ah but who defines a word?

Depends how it is used but you don't hear people referring to the RVP bandwagon earlier in the season but they speak of Moses/Sess.

It's a term nearly always used with negative connotations around here - even if that is not the intended definition.

I agree that it isn't necessarily negative – I want people to jump on a bandwagon because it would increase my players' value for when I sell them. I value them for the points, not for their value. And that, gentlemen, is going onto my epitaph!

United not winning, but creating soooo many chances. Newcastle took like 5 off the line. And Aguero not looking too sharp either, also not on pens with Balo on the pitch has put me off.
Naah im just keeping it for a while as a tribute. Kostja was named citizen of the year yesterday. And was still a terrific result for us a country of 1,3 mil people and many players of the national team still having a second job next to football 😀

forward thinking, forward thinking. I got RVP and Vaart in at 11,9 and 9,7 as well before they scored any goals. Look at the fixtures united have played after Norwich, I was not hoping for more than 1 or 2 goals in any of them. That is why I did not hold on to Rooney, now it is a different story. And United are gonna go for it you will see.

From the field? Well against Newcastle but if you mean open play then maybe that was Man Utd? Still picks up assists though and is very dangerous.

Yeah I spose both were a little fortunate but he's probably had more than a few which he's narrowly missed etc ... trials and tribulations of FPL 🙂

Afternoon all, was wondering if you'd give me your opinions on the chances of Dzeko's numbers coming up on the Mancini lottery at the weekend? I want to get Ade in but the plan was to do it next week, would hate to get rid of him before he gets a hat full against Norwich but don't want another 1 point off him. What do you think?

Really doubt it imo. He played 90 in midweek, has played in 4/5 of mancitys cl matches, so may be required in midweek too. Personally i think it will be Balotelli and Aguero with them going off after 60+

The tweet about doyle being fit and wolves playin 4-4-2 as it is a must win game has made me ignore the Sess to Ohara idea.. will now keep Sess for 2 weeks and then reassess

    Team currently looks like this:

    Hennessey
    Kompany King Enrique
    Bale Walters Mata Nani
    Ba RVP(c) Adebayor(vc)

    Subs: Vorm, Eagles, Brown, Simpson

Any suggestions? Looking to potentially get silva in but would need to make a 4 point hit to do so.

that's the one bit of the starting team I'm undecided on. Simply need to get rid of hennessey in general to be honest!

I have vdv, drenthe and aguero (rest) as doubts for the weekend. Without them my subs come into play: N/Taylor, Boyata and Ferg…is it worth:

    a) sit tight and hope two out of three make it
    b) transfer vdv out to mata/walcott
    c) drenthe to larsson
    d) ferg to a playing sub

Pretty sure Drenthe isn't making it - I'd do Drenthe to O'Hara / Larsson / Ben Arfa.

You will probably need all your subs to be playing over the Christmas period though, so maybe better off looking at Ben Arfa or O'Hara to free up cash to upgrade Ferguson next week?

Looks like Wolves are going 4-4-2 at the weekend Heco - puts a dampener on the O'Hara idea for me.

Could do I guess - is he going to be a sure starter from here on in? He's a much better player than Best but they fulfill different roles in the team too.

He'll definitely be playing when Ba is away at the african nations and he's looked pretty lively in the couple of games he's started... there's nothing to indicate he'll be dropped but he's not as much of a shoe-in as others, e.g. Cabaye.

There's an argument he could play wide right instead of Obertan if Pardew decides to play Ba & Best though so it's a tricky one!
