[sbu_large_image] Suspensions

Having savoured the splendours of Spurs’ win over Bolton at first-hand yesterday, the suspension update comes with something of a personal touch this evening.

We’ll start then at my game and with the disciplinary talking point of Saturday’s match ups – Gary Cahill’s red card. The Bolton defender was given his marching orders by referee Stuart Atwell for a foul on Scott Parker after 17 mins that was deemed to be ‘denying a goal-scoring opportunity’. A 1 match ban will result, meaning Bolton will be without both Cahill and last week’s headliner, David Wheater, for the GW15 game hosting Aston Villa.

Most onlookers were in agreement that the decision was extremely harsh (or an ‘absolute disgrace’ as Bolton Chairman Phil Gartside put it), and when viewed in the context of a yellow card for Chelsea’s David Luiz four minutes into the Saturday lunchtime game for a much more clear cut ‘professional foul’, they may have a point.

In the other games, we saw another red card, this time for Swansea’s Joe Allen who picked up a first yellow for throwing the ball away and followed it with a second late on at Ewood park for a push on Junior Hoilett, to earn himself an early bath and a ban for GW15 (FUL).

Joining him as new entries to the ban list are the aforementioned David Luiz – that yellow card his fifth of the season, meaning he will miss next week’s Monday Night Football against the league leaders (mci) – and perennial offender, Lee Cattermole. The Sunderland midfielder also picked up his fifth booking in this afternoon’s live game, with his ban to be served against Blackburn.

As well as the suspensions, there were also a couple of additional inductees to the Suspension Tightrope this week. Arsenal’s Alex Song and Bolton right back Paul Robinson both picked up their fourth yellow cards of the season to join the merry balancing band one yellow card from a ban.

Gameweek 15 Bans

  • Stephen N’Zonzi (Blackburn) – FA Charge (Last of 3 matches)
  • Gary Cahill (Bolton) – 1 Red for a professional foul (1 match)
  • David Wheater (Bolton) – 1 Red for serious foul play (Second of 4 matches)
  • David Luiz (Chelsea) – 5 Yellows (1 match)
  • Lee Cattermole (Sunderland) – 5 Yellows (1 match)
  • Joe Allen (Swansea) – 1 Red for 2 bookings (1 match)

Suspension Tightrope – Four bookings

  • Alex Song (Arsenal)
  • Gabby Agbonlahor (Aston Villa)
  • Stiliyan Petrov (Aston Villa)
  • Paul Robinson (Bolton)
  • Frank Lampard (Chelsea)
  • Brede Hangeland (Fulham)
  • Steve Sidwell (Fulham)
  • Yohan Cabaye (Newcastle)
  • Ryan Shawcross (Stoke)
  • Glenn Whelan (Stoke)

Not ideal given the definite absence of Steve Taylor and the likely absence of Coloccini. If Williamson isn't back for the next game then it could be something like Perch and Simpson in the centre and Santon RB.

Fecking awful prospects really, Williamson himself isn't great. Look elsewhere I think, I'm keeping Krul but will probably get BAE for Steve Taylor.

I'm shipping steven taylor obviously and keeping simpson as a cheapie on the bench, but without saylor and colo the clean sheets for the likes of rtaylor and krul will dry up and so will there confidence. There is no way that thin squad was going to with stand the whole season.

If Pardew can a string of clean sheets together with Perch in defence then he deserves manager of the season.

Newcastle are now officially off my radar defence wise.

    Not now.

Think the Newcastle bubble will burst now. They escaped defensive injuries up till now but looks like their luck just ran out.

I think the cleanies will be gone for a while now.

exactly what i was going to say. as soon as coloccini and taylor went off they looked at 6s and 7s at the back. i dont rate perch and now he'll be first choice centre back. Anyone have an idea who to swap Begovic for? Have vorm already!

You play Linde all the time and if he doesn't play Vorm comes in. Well when he played he never conceded till now and has best ppg. Also in the busy Christmass period he will get more chances IMO.

been putting at the decorations today and just catching up on my team...

After spending 4 points on Saha I was expecting good things today against a shoddy Stoke side still recovering from the Europa League.

Instead he dont play - injured

Thanks FFS for the heads up...

Yeah, we expected Saha to start. The problem is, Moyes is being dead cagey about his injuries these days. Typically, the only info we get from the Everton camp is that he "has a few niggles and knocks" going into a game. It's anyone's guess which players are affected. Having said that, Saha and Cahill are notoriously prone of course - always risky business dealing with them.

For that money, you'd want a player whose team is likely to get clean sheets most weeks, and someone who isnt a card magnet.

Much better options in that bracket. Vermaelen, Kompany, Richards and Jones to name a few

Two of my best FPL moves this season have been getting Arsenal players - I got RVP at 11.9 when only about 7.5% had him, and recently Vermaelen. I've had 9 and now 15 (plus presumably bonii) from him and he's only owned by less than 3%. Magic.

Less successful have been moves for Cleverley, Suarez, Wilkinson, Drenthe, urgh quite a long list of turgid shit actually.

Anyway, Rooney (c) next gameweek anyone?

I'd stay away from Ba personally, think Sturridge is the better option. Your midfield is fine when Drenthe is fit so could go either way really. See how Suarez does tomorrow, but either way the home game with QPR is tempting. I bought him this week, I have that same sense that he's going to start hitting the target.

Enjoyed the game greatly on Saturday, was a very open entertaining game - both sides should have scored more than they did, comfortably.

You guys really missed Gutierrez's work rate on the left. Lovenkrands did very little to help out Raylor, who we all know is a fairly hapless defender. The amount of times we got in behind him in the first 30 minutes was ridiculous, after which I imagine he was told not to venture forward nearly as often.

Ben Arfa wasn't at all influential in the first half, and you looked a lot more threatening when you went for two up top. Cabaye was tidy, and Ba was very impressive, desperately unlucky not to score on a couple of occasions.

Watched the game on TV. Agree with most of your views of the game, apart from Cabaye, I thought he was poor, looked very nervous.

7 tackles attempted, 7 tackles won - the most of any midfielder this week.

9 balls recovered - the highest was 11.

He was pretty tidy off the ball, wasn't overly impressed with him in possession though, aside from a couple of decent passes.

It's also sometimes very hard to distinguish between him and Guthrie!!

Impressive stats, makes him a good team player, its the creative side he struggled with, but has ability.

I was really surprised - first that Lovenkrands was selected, and second that Pardew did nothing to stop the football gang rape of Ryan Taylor, the sensible move should have been to swap Lovenkrands for Santon and double up defensively.
Aye thought Ba was fantastic too, really did deserve a goal, had better tekkers too than I thought he was capable of.
Mata, Romeu, Ramires and Sturridge all did really well. Mata in particular was pure class, but Luiz looked pretty damned awful (I'll not beat the drum about the yellowcard/redcard thing again) 😉
Thought we really missed Tiote as well, Guthrie does a job, but a lot of the time it seemed like he went missing and left Cabaye exposed. The biggest turning point though was Colo going off, he's the brains and organisor of the back line, and when he went we just looked pretty easy to get round. Krul was magnificent though and to be fair Cech was first rate too.
You deserved the win, but 3-0 was cruel.

The 'yellowcard/redcard thing again' where Ba was offside? That incident? 😛

Krul was class, although I thought he could have done a little better with Drogba's goal.

You're as bad as your brother! If the ref gives the foul NOT the offside then there is only one proper action - a red card

Yeah, and there's only one proper action for when a forward is offside.....

Ba was offside before he tangled with Luiz. End of story. Nice of just about everyone to totally ignore this fact, it's up to us Chelsea fans to make sure the truth is heard.

But its irrelevant - the ref (and linesman) didnt give the offside - they gave the foul, which (by the book) was a red card

Here's a stat - wayne rooney has not scored a goal in 9 GW's... And is still the 4th top scoring player in FPL. A chilling reminder of just how devastating he can be? A signpost that he should be about to explode back into form? Avoid like the plague? I just don't know...

Cam't afford him at the minute without making serious cuts to midfield so hopefully he stays quiet for another few games

Well yeah, because he's not an out and out striker. He only played that role for one season and scored consistently. When he's in the hole (and now even deeper) he doesn't get the scoring opportunities that someone like RvP does.

He did get shafted a little with the drop to midfield for 3 or 4 games last month... If he played as a lone striker a la 2 seasons ago he would an absolute must have. But as it stands, its a case of waiting till he scores then getting him in to take advan of his 5 or 6 game scoring streak before selling again when the goals dry up

I've been carrying him for weeks because I didn't want to loose cash on him and RVP was doing it for me. I think Wolves will be a water shed - I can shift him after that game and bring in Welbeck and Jones for my ManU cover over xmas. He will Score bug again but just not sure how long I can stand missing out on points elsewhere.

Just doing some window shopping & something (probably obvious) struck me... You can have bale+sturridge for 3.0 less than mata+ade. I.e. Attacking coverage of both chelski + spurs for a full 3.0 less

Worth re-engineering the team below to do the above xfers?

    Henessey
    Enrique/simps/ntaylor
    VDV/Silva/Ramsey/Mata
    RVP/Suarez/Ade

Could do with some advice here:

    Vorm Given
    Kompany Enrique Brown Simpson Wilko
    Silva Bale Walters Brunt Dyer
    RVP Aguero Ade

Want to get Jones in and considering 2 options, both for 4 points:

    1. Wilko/Aguero - Jones/Yak
    2. Kompany/Aguero - Jones/Ba

Both leave me with enough cash to do Walters - Nani. Problem with the Yak is that he's so cheap that I won't be able to get Sturridge easily in a few weeks, whereas with Ba it's easy. But should I really get rid of Kompany?
