[sbu_large_image] Suspensions

We had to wait until the final game of the day to find the disciplinary angle on Sunday’s proceedings, but sure as night follows day, it duly arrived in the shape of a fifth booking of the season for Arsenal’s Alex Song. His early yellow means that he’ll now be absent from the matchday squad for the visit to Aston Villa in midweek.

Replacing him on the suspension tightrope is teammate Mikel Arteta. Already a recipient of a league cup yellow in the early rounds for Everton, his booking today for a foul on Yaya TourΓ© means he has now accrued a further three in the league for new club Arsenal, and takes up the spot on the tightrope vacated by Song.

There’s been some confusion about this as a result of talk of an earlier booking at Blackburn whilst with Everton. We’ve had it confirmed by Opta that this booking was never actually awarded (despite what other sources show); as a result, Arteta has now moved on to four yellow cards – one short of a ban. We will of course clarify this with the FA and confirm tomorrow.

With the other disciplinary matters of the gameweek rounded up in yesterday’s article, there’s just time for a final line to summarise the Luis Suarez situation: with the hearing into his alleged racism underway and a decision delayed until Tuesday at the earliest, there’s still some uncertainty as to whether we’ll know more before the gameweek 17 deadline of 19:30 GMT the same day. It’s entirely possible that if a decision is delayed again until Wednesday, and if a ban is handed out that afternoon, that he would be ineligible for Liverpool’s trip to Wigan in the evening. We’ll of course keep you posted as soon as we hear anything.

GAMEWEEK 17 BANS

  • Alex Song (Arsenal) – 5 Yellows (1 match)
  • David Wheater (Bolton) – 1 Red for serious foul play (Last of 4 matches)
  • Jay Spearing (Liverpool) – 1 Red for serious foul play (Last of 3 matches)
  • Yohan Cabaye (Newcastle) – 5 Yellows (1 match)
  • Dan Gosling (Newcastle) – 1 Red for serious foul play (Second of 3 matches)
  • Ryan Shawcross (Stoke) – 5 Yellows (1 match)

    I should just play Vorm(eve) this week right and forget about rotating keepers? Hennessey(NOR) is my other goalie but i've left so many points on the bench with Vorm this season it's beyond annoying.

    First time without hits for weeks and took a pretty big red arrow πŸ™

    Mini league leader is pulling further and further away no idea how to catch him atm... Can't seem to catch a break this season half the time.

    Anyway what are my priorities?

    Dyer -> Moses
    Schwarzer -> Friedel
    Hutton -> Evans

    Or two for 4pts? Have Shawcross and Bale so squad is stretched thin this GW. Will also need to get Yak out next week...

    Silva- 85%
    vdv- 75%
    nani- 70%
    rvp- 95%
    welbeck- 55%

    Any different opinions? Think I'm gonna (c) silva as no shawx and save transfer for next week to Rooney in on the free (without ditching rvp :)) last chance saloon 4 welbeck is goin anyway.

        Oh I'd defo (c) rvp if every single player at topy mini league didn't do same thing. I'd (c) him if it were clear cut choice but look for differential otherwise. Had him since 11.9 so been (c) him for months since Blackburn away I recall.

          Sometimes though you shouldn't avoid the clear cut captains choices just for the sake of differentials. Always put your money on the best bet captain and then let your squad chip away at the rest. Still along way to go - no need to be taking crazy punts on captaincy yet

    Vorm, Al-Habsi
    Raylor, Enrique, Jones, Naylor, Turner
    Bale, Silva, Nani, Mata, Moses
    RVP, Ade, Yak

    0 in the bank, 1 FT. Worth doing Bale or Turner out or saving it? Leaning towards saving as I will need to downgrade Bale to upgrade Turner to Evans or BAE and can't see anyone to downgrade to apart from Drenthe who isn't guaranteed to start.

      I only got on VdV for his last good week (GW10) but I did Mata out and they scored the same points so no gain there. Then VdV did nothing for ages then got injured while Bale went mental. Finally did VdV > Bale in GW 15 whereupon Bale goes 2 then injured. I hate them both. Ade can get to f*ck this week as well.

      I think Ade is overated. The quality in spurs lie in their midfield VDV, Bale (people may disagree with me on this but I am just giving my honest 2 cents). I think getting Sturr in is a good bet as I see him banging goals in for the forseeable future. As for you to get larsson why not out Sinclair and bring in Bale instead. You get chelsea and tot covers πŸ™‚

    Is it worth shipping Pilkington out before he drops?
    I have two FTs so I guess it is, but to who?

    I was set on Gower, but Swansea cheap mids seem prone to rotation like cheap norwich mids, so I'm thinking back to the old favourite from Gameweek 1 - Moses, but his next few fixtures are awful..

        Well I have money in the bank so could go up to 7-8 mil, but I'm looking to downgrade him to upgrade defence and Drenthe in the other midfield slot I'm looking at.

        So looking at mids below 5 mil there's not that much choice..

      Jordi Gomez on pens with 4 goals in the last 5 for 4.9m is also an option but obviously has the same fixture problems as Moses. I like both though, and you're right, not a lot in that bracket, but few ~6m mids stand out either.

      That's what I'm thinking, he's too cheap to ignore as a way into the united back line, and with united's midfield problems looks fairly secure if Jones stays there.
      Fabio, Rafael and Vidic are all out, so he should be good for a starting place..
      Rio was good today, and he and Evra are nailed on in their positions, but the other two could be filled by Jones/Smalling, Evans/Smalling, Evans/Jones.

      That said, I'm probably bringing him in this week, but he could end up costing united clean sheets against better teams.

    Right, transfer done (Evans in for Brown) but who the heck do you give the cap'n'cy too this gwk?

    - Rooney at Fulham but looks a narrow Utd win
    - RVP at AV

              Edgam. With RVP away at AV - and therefore the possibility of miminal returns - there is yet another edgam gameweek πŸ™‚

                  Educated gamble. It's a risk and reward bet with the threat of little losing downside.

                  For example, Ba is highly likely to score at least 1 goal this week. RVP less so.

                  So if Ba fails to score as your cap'n = 4 pts.
                  RVP scores 1 + 2bps + 2 = 16pts as a cap'n.

                  Provided you had RVP as well, you would only be down 6 points. Now that's very little damage done so it's a risk worth taking.

      It's a tough one, guts would say RVP or Silva but both are rotation risk. I'm still going to give Ba the amrband, after the draw with Swansea I reckon they could bounce back hard against WBA defence that ship a lot of goals.

    So the deadline for GW17 is 20 Dec 19:30, and then for GW18 is 26 Dec 11:30 UK time. GW17 starts on Tuesday night and finishes on Thursday, GW18 starts on Saturday lunchtime and finishes Sunday night, then GW20 starts on Saturday night and finishes on Monday.

    With work, shopping, Christmas preparation and several booze-ups I'm worried I'm going to cock it all up somehow.
