Alex McLeish is given a welcome fitness boost ahead of Villa’s trip to Stoke. Sir Alex Ferguson admits he will continue to rotate David De Gea, while Seamus Coleman is ruled out of Everton’s game at Sunderland:

Sir Alex Ferguson looks like he will continue to frustrate owners of David De Gea after once again resting him in favor of Anders Lindegaard last night. The United boss admitted he will use Lindegaard as the season goes on to give De Gea a rest whenever he deems necessary:

It’s not a problem because I think Anders has that little bit more experience. I felt his was the right time to change and we’re going to do that with David. He’s only 20 years of age and is going to be a fantastic goalkeeper, there’s absolutely no doubt about that. Having Anders as a back-up in terms of giving the lad a break at the right time, is proving its worth. Anders is an outstanding goalkeeper and has a little bit more experience.

Scans have revealed that Bolton defender Marcos Alonso has not broken his foot as first feared. After the game at Ewood Park, manager Owen Coyle was worried that Alonso was facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines, but the injury is said to be superficial, with the left-back due to see a specialist to determine the extent of the problem.

Peter Crouch, who missed last night’s game at Manchester City, could be back to face former club Aston Villa on Boxing Day. Crouch spent some time in hospital yesterday after complaining of headaches, but Tony Pulis has allayed fears that the problem is too serious. The Stoke boss also confirmed that Matthew Etherington was rested against City to ensure that he was fit to face Villa on Boxing Day.

Alex McLeish had plenty of positive injury news to report today. The Villa boss expects Darren Bent, James Collins, Emile Heskey and Stephen Ireland to all be available for the trip to Stoke. Ireland lasted just 44 minutes against Arsenal last night but Big Eck revealed fatigue was the problem, with the midfielder having suffered from illness all week. Chris Herd is expected to be out for a further two weeks with an ankle problem.

Arsenal have moved their home game with Wolves, initially scheduled for Boxing Day, back a day to the 27th as a result of the proposed industrial action on the London Underground. This scuppers any chance of a potential double gameweek, with the fixture still falling under gameweek 18. Chelsea’s game with Fulham will go ahead at 1pm, as scheduled.

Angel Rangel returned from injury for Swansea last night, coming on for the injured Neil Taylor at Everton. Taylor is due to have a scan on a knee problem sustained in the 1-0 Goodison loss, with the extent as of yet unknown. Swans boss Brendan Rodgers said:

We’ll have a wee look in the morning. I’m not sure what he has done. I haven’t spoke to the medics yet but it was obviously too sore to continue.

Seamus Coleman has been ruled out of Everton’s Boxing Day trip to Sunderland after aggravating a thigh problem in last night’s game against Swansea. David Moyes admitted the Toffees have one or two knocks but was typically evasive on the matter.

Keeping him aslong as possible. Goals against Man United and an assist against Man City tells me he seems to get points regardless of fixtures. Staying in until he goes to ACN, which could be as late as mid-January if Pardew gets his way.

I can't find any midfielders that float my boat, other than Nani and one of VDV and Bale.

Silva and Lamps aren't justifying their prices at the moment.
Valencia and Mata don't score enough goals to go with their assists.
Scrubbing around the 6-7.5 bracket there doesn't seem to be a must have. Larsson, Sinclair, Drenthe, Sess, Walters, Osman, Brunt are all ok, but just ok.

Has anyone had any thoughts about midfielders that look like they might bring in some big hauls soon?

The only one I can think of is Vuckic, if he gets the minutes. 4.4m and looked like he's capable of spanking a few in.

    Vorm (krul)

    Evans, Enrique, vermaelen (RTaylor, Jones)

Arsenal defenders don't offer value, excepting Vermaelen WHEN he scores. I wouldn't like to rely on that. If they were priced at 4.5m, then fair enough, but they're not

Its a bit too early with Bolton away for Ba. Im thinking of transfering him next week.

Royal5, it depends on how his team will do in the tournament.
Its about a month, more or less.

I wanted an underdog striker for the time being. Dont want to touch my mids right now. Agbonlahor has a good scedule ahead of him, and with Bent returning to fitness, I think he has some chances to score.
        Maybe Ruiz then?

There's always a chance Bale could get 7 or more points... he's likely to be up against Bosingwa after all.

I doubt it. Ankle injury should slow bale down and Bosingwa is not slow. I'd rather have the guaranteed 7 points from Brown.

I'll hit 60 again anyway, so not too bad. So long as I keep that average up, it'll be acceptable.

Didn't we know Bale was a doubt with ankle problem before deadline? On that basis why didn't you play Brown(or is it just hoping because he picked up some points)

Lol, because I thought Bale would come on and assist. I never expected Brown to score! His first in two years!

Tommy, the Brown goal was a one off and Sunderland were unlikely to get a CS (which they didn't)... so he was odds on for 1-2 points, therefore was worth risking Bale.

So he can't complain if Bale plays-I was in exactly same boat 2 weeks ago when Bale was a doubt-would love to have had Moses 13 points off the bench but I didn't. In reality I don't think Bale should have played that game-probably aggrevated his problem.

The point is if your first choice plays don't moan about not getting someone off the bench.

*I didn't complain because I looked back and would have made the same choice at outset.

Im not complaining, if Bale comes on its MY fault. Im hoping he doesnt. Thats all. Its my decision, but I want some luck.

I just meant that you'd make the same choice again-based on the fixture you and most others would play Bale over Brown.

I think it will be a better game tonight if Bale does play.

I'm not being funny I just don't understand why people are always making a point about points on their bench-if they come on great, that's why you have subs but don't moan about it if your first choice plays-that's all.

All quiet...Rodgers offered very little other than to say a scan would take place. We have him marked as a "Knock" so will be on alert for an update.
