Driving home for Christmas, we present you with the festive ScoutCast. Obviously only for those without passengers – we wouldn’t want to inflict this on unsuspecting souls.

A stocking brimming with the usual merriment, the episode comes with the annual added bonus of hearing myself and Mark exchanging “ironic” gifts as an act of “goodwill” one more.

Along the way we deliberate the Robin Van Persie helpline, the revolving doors being worked by Gareth Bale and Rafael Van der Vaart and the perils of double gameweek investment.

      Apart from the Wolves game, Mata is averaging 3 points a game since the beginning of November. If you've got him you might at well hold onto him for Fulham but I wouldn't blame you for ditching him...

    Hey guys, so first time commenting here :).

    I got VDV out for Etherington this week, which leaves me with 3.5 mil in the bank.
    I got a bit of a defender dilema, as Jones, Neil Taylor, and Wilkinson are all doubts. Thinking about dropping Taylor and bringing in any defender 7.7 mil or lower, already got vermarlean and j.evans.
    Another option is to get a striker for yakubu, with 9.3 mil being the max. I'm leaning towards sturidge, but would rather do Ba>sturridge next gw.

    Team is :

    Vorm , Ruddy
    Vermarlean, Jones, Neil Taylor, J.Evans, Wilkinson
    Bale, Silva, Nani, Etherington, Joe Allen
    RVP Ba Yakubu

    Honestly I'm thinking Neil Taylor > Terry. Taylor's fixtures are much tougher after this gw, while Terry has 3 of 4 home fixtures, and he was impressive in the game v tottemham, think he could be ready to deliver a big haul soon. This would be temporarily, until WC time of course. Opinions? Or perhaps suggest another move?

      i got rid of vdv for etherington aswell and i used the extra cash to get ade instead of yakubu.

      Btw our teams are nearly identical. We have same midfield and wilkinson is only difference in defence (I have brown).

      Think taylor to terry is a very good move aswell

    Any stoke fans about??

    How nailed on is Shotton? At 4.0 and with only 1.2% ownership he seems like a great way to get a Stoke defender with their nice fixtures coming up... Also he on long throws so may pop up with the odd assist and he has bagged a couple of goals already this season so long as he plays then he should be perfect. Just want some confirmation that he will play...

      Stoke defi outside of Shawcross are just difficult really.

      But Shotton has been playing RM quite a few times instead of pennant, so his OOP potential helps, though his long throws seem to get the assist to the assist mainly. I think he's a better bet than anyone but Shawcross or Huth at the back, so for 4.0 he's worth having.

      But no concrete info, no. I've still got wilkinson myself..

    Merry Christmas Eve eve chaps. Below is my current team. I have 2 frees. My question is this:
    Sub out NTaylor (injured 50%) for JEvans (double up on ManU defence.) My only plans beyond this are Ba to Sturridge when African CON starts. What dost reckon? Any other suggestions?

    So general opinion appears to be that Shotton + Drenthe is better than BAE + Gomez.
    Just something about it makes me hesitate doing the transfer...

    I just don't know how consistent Drenthe and Shotton will be. Are they even nailed on?!

            Really close - all depends on who you would start and bench for the next two weeks/who you would be benching for them. I prefer BAE and Gomez though - think BAE will return 8 points in the DGW - Drenthe could only be 3 (I have both).

              Drenthe and Shotton don't exactly fill me with confidence that they'll consistently get 90 mins... at least BAE and Gomez will.
              If I had Drenthe and Shotton I'd play them, whereas I'd probably bench Gomez for a these tough fixtures which Wigan are facing.

    IT, think you're all set this week by the way. Great team. I know you're struggling with Ba/Sturridge, but even as a Sturridge owner I think you're good with Ba this week-ESP if it means no hit.
    Do you think VdV->Nani and N.Taylor->Caulker for free is worth it?

      Hey CC. Thanks for the comments. I think VDV > Nani sounds good, not so sure on the Naylor > Caulker but lets discuss...

      Do you have any other United attacking coverage or is that why you are bring in Nani? Having no Spurs coverage this close to the DGW is worrying but having no United coverage for the two upcoming home games would be even more worrying imo. VDV > Bale if you have other United attacking coverage otherwise do VDV > Nani.

      As regards the Naylor transfer, I'd be more willing to just bench him as it seems he will miss the next game but will be back soon. What defence are you planning on putting out this week?

        Cheers man, problem is that I need to do Taylor -> Caulker to afford Nani. I do already have Rooney but I thought Nani for a couple of weeks, then can get Bale for the double? Or do you think just get Bale now? Think Man U could be pretty awesome over Xmas

        Im on roll now too but not quite as impressive as that. My urge to finish in the top 6 is competing nicely with my usual obsession with mini-leagues. Adds some more bits and bobs to the usual OCD elements of FF!!
