While Stoke’s morale took a hit in the 3-0 defeat at the Etihad stadium, their form has undoubtedly flourished of late. Four consecutive wins coincided with the re-introduction of Robert Huth to a central defensive role.

Now could be the time for Fantasy managers to also reconsider Huth as an option. After last season’s Fantasy Premier League (FPL) haul of 138 points, including six goals and three assists, Huth started this term surprisingly slowly and lost his place to Matthew Upson during gameweeks 4 and 9. As a result, Huth’s price has fallen from his initial valuation of 6.0, to a more manageable 5.6 today. Suddenly, there could be value to be found, if only Huth can cement a starting role and begin to replicate the form of his previous campaign.

The signs are good. There’s every indication that Pulis has re-installed Huth to his lineup for the long haul. Huth hasn’t missed a minute of action since gameweek 11 and, with the versatility to play anywhere across the backline, he looks well placed to start each game, particularly with Jonathan Woodgate seemingly persistently cursed with niggles and knocks.

Huth’s goal threat at set pieces not only makes him a popular figure with Pulis, it also lifts his Fantasy credentials. The German offers potential, both in the air and on the ground. He grabbed his first goal of the season against Everton in gamweek 14, and fetched an assist for his dead-ball strike from a direct free-kick against Wolves a fortnight later.

Fast forward to Boxing Day, and Huth will be up against Aston Villa at the Britannia, a side who have conceded more goals from set-pieces than any other Premier League side. Pulis will be well aware of this: Huth will be a key weapon in exploiting the weakness.

Monday’s game also carries the potential of a clean sheet. Alex McLeish’s side have mustered just three strikes in their last six league games. Despite Stoke managing a just a single shut-out in nine, then, the odds on a Potters clean sheet for Boxing Day look good. In a nutshell, Villa can’t defend set-pieces and are scratching around for goals – the case for Huth looks strong.

Stoke follow Monday’s game with another home clash with relegation threatened Wigan, before travelling to face bottom club Blackburn. With West Brom, Sunderland, Swansea and Norwich the next four sides to visit the Britannia after that, Huth may well be a gift that goes on giving long after the Christmas period.

Rotates best with Villa, but cant think of any decent mids. But apart from GW21, Walters rotates home-away well with Drenthe.

You spent so much on defenders...I'd suggest shipping enrique and huth for cheaper defenders.

I'm off the crofts bandwagon, Surman seems to be more consistent than him, so upgrade crofts, imo.

Yes, let's all dash and bring Huth in - who plays for a team who has kept 2 cleansheets in 13.

Stoke will win games, but it'll be more 2-1/3-1 than 1-0/2-0

    Vorm
    Jones Enrique Evans Brown
    Silva Bale Drenthe
    RVP (c) Rooney Adebayor
    Subs: Hennessey Simpson Tiote Dyer

2 free transfers, 0 in the bank.
Happy with my team, no one I really want other than Nani, but that'd take a bit of an overhaul. If I can't think of anything else, I'll probably just swap Dyer and save the other transfer.

    Hmm any suggestions?

You can do without Nani seeing as you have Rooney. Tiote and Dyer aren't my favourite of options, if you could swap Dyer for someone who plays every week, that would help.

      Otherwise looks decent.

    Vorm (Krul)

Jones, Vermaelen, Jose Enrique (Walker, N.Taylor)

    Bale, Larsson, Silva, Nani, (Drenthe)

    Van Persie, Ba, Sturridge

Not satisfied with my City coverage, will likely hold off until the WC to fix that though as I want to get Adebayor/Osman in for the DGW.

Anyway, the question, play Larsson or Drenthe this week?

Team value is very important, my team value is 104.8 and some have a 111m team value meaning that they can buy one or two big players more than me meaning they are at a huge advantage in the second half of the season.

I wouldn't go as far as to say it's very important. It's a nice bonus if you can get a high team value, but getting the points is the main priority. Having alot to spend doesn't guarantee you points.

Sir Ricky Lambert 😉 Na, I think we would've bought a new striker by then to play alongside him, can see him being a bit like Holt this year for Norwich. And if Lallana price is cheap he'll be worth a go. Presuming we get promoted that is....

Anyway, because I haven't been on here for so long my team is (not afraid to admit it) shocking and I'm actually considering a 12 point hit! Any ideas?

Why is everyone jumping on the Evans wagon? Ferdinand will be back next week and the return of Rafael could mean Jones or Smalling move to centre back.

Evans has been the preferred CB with Vidic out even in the start of the season. Ferguson likes to keep the back 4 stabile. He has been the most nailed on option this season next to Evra and Jones. So with that price he is invaluable.

arguably, yes, both nani and RVP are home, and ba is away. Man utd, Arsenal's attacks >> Newcastles attack. Rvp and Nani are both involved as much in the attack as Ba. And bolton's def is not as bad any more as it was at the start of the season. Meanwhile wolves, well...when have they not conceded at least 2 goals....
All three have the chance to, and will probably score, but RVP is probably the best out of the 3, considering how good wigan have been the last few games.

I don't think wigan's recent performances will have any bearing with the Nani/RVP captaincy issue. I think Utd will hammer them, but I'm going with RVP because Utd have so many more options to take the points. Fully expecting Arsenal to struggle if they don't get early goal, but when it comes, no doubt RVP will be involved

they're ok, but it depends what the rest of your team looks like. Sorensen and Morison have better fixtures, but the Yak is on good form right now.

Who's your other keeper? Sorenson has good home fixtures but doesn't rotate with Vorm.

What to change with this team? How should I get some United attacking coverage in it?

    Vorm (Al Habsi)
    Kompany Jones Shawcross (Simpson Barnett)
    Silva Larsson Walters Bale (Drenthe)
    RVP Ba Adebayor

I don't know how you can get either Rooney or Nani, but Valencia is a cheaper option. So, get out Walters for Valencia and downgrade either Larsson or Drenthe

Bit of advice please lads, team linked. What would you do? I'm thinking just VDV --> Valencia/Mata for now, Ba --> Sturridge next week..

VdV on twitter reckons he'll be fit to face Norwich. Is there a hope in hell that this will raise his price?

Certainly won't raise it, it might slow down the decline..

yeah thought as much 🙁 Just need that extra 0.1... But VDV -> should still be done for a hit, right?

Yeah, probably. I've lost faith in VDV (a little too late) and am gonna get Valencia in. I didn't realise Young got injured, it's the only thing that was putting me off. I think i'll get in Bale in 2 weeks for the double.

Yeah same. Bale will come in shortly, but I wanted Nani for these next 2 weeks at least. Is it madness to do VDV -> Nani and, say Dyer -> Surman (need to remove Dyer, but it's low priority, he's a bench warmer really) for a 4pt hit, rather than VDV-> Valencia and lots of cash for no hit?

True, but he usually starts regardless, before breaking down sooner or later.

    Vorm
    Jones Verm Enrique
    Silva Mata Drenthe Larsson
    RVP(C) Ba Sturridge

    Bench: Al-Habsi, Simpson, Jagielka, Ramsey

1 free transfer and 0.5 in the bank.

Ramsey > a cheaper player because I don't like having a proper 5 man midfield. Suggestions?
How does the team look in general?

Why is there not alot more love for Walcott? He has so much potential to explode over the next couple of gameweeks.
