While Stoke’s morale took a hit in the 3-0 defeat at the Etihad stadium, their form has undoubtedly flourished of late. Four consecutive wins coincided with the re-introduction of Robert Huth to a central defensive role.

Now could be the time for Fantasy managers to also reconsider Huth as an option. After last season’s Fantasy Premier League (FPL) haul of 138 points, including six goals and three assists, Huth started this term surprisingly slowly and lost his place to Matthew Upson during gameweeks 4 and 9. As a result, Huth’s price has fallen from his initial valuation of 6.0, to a more manageable 5.6 today. Suddenly, there could be value to be found, if only Huth can cement a starting role and begin to replicate the form of his previous campaign.

The signs are good. There’s every indication that Pulis has re-installed Huth to his lineup for the long haul. Huth hasn’t missed a minute of action since gameweek 11 and, with the versatility to play anywhere across the backline, he looks well placed to start each game, particularly with Jonathan Woodgate seemingly persistently cursed with niggles and knocks.

Huth’s goal threat at set pieces not only makes him a popular figure with Pulis, it also lifts his Fantasy credentials. The German offers potential, both in the air and on the ground. He grabbed his first goal of the season against Everton in gamweek 14, and fetched an assist for his dead-ball strike from a direct free-kick against Wolves a fortnight later.

Fast forward to Boxing Day, and Huth will be up against Aston Villa at the Britannia, a side who have conceded more goals from set-pieces than any other Premier League side. Pulis will be well aware of this: Huth will be a key weapon in exploiting the weakness.

Monday’s game also carries the potential of a clean sheet. Alex McLeish’s side have mustered just three strikes in their last six league games. Despite Stoke managing a just a single shut-out in nine, then, the odds on a Potters clean sheet for Boxing Day look good. In a nutshell, Villa can’t defend set-pieces and are scratching around for goals – the case for Huth looks strong.

Stoke follow Monday’s game with another home clash with relegation threatened Wigan, before travelling to face bottom club Blackburn. With West Brom, Sunderland, Swansea and Norwich the next four sides to visit the Britannia after that, Huth may well be a gift that goes on giving long after the Christmas period.

Ba should outscore Rooney this week? I'd be surprised it that were true and if you take the next 2 GWs into account it's no contest

Ba > Rooney for GW18 & 19 and then Rooney > Adebayor for DGW

    Vorm

    Silva Mata Drenthe Larsson
    RVP(C) Ba Sturridge

    Bench: Al-Habsi, Simpson, Jagielka, Ramsey

big question - over 50% of people have him!

Will silva get bench time between boxing day and gameweek 23?

Adam wasn't that great against Wigan but not sure if Drenthe is nailed on or not. I'd play Drenthe and hope he starts. I think Bellamy is a certain starter this gameweek and that takes away some of Adams set pieces as well.

In fact just get rid of Adam buy Arteta instead.

Aye, but with Man U defence the risk isn't a big one. Have a look at recent results then work out how many points your side would have gained by adopting this tactic for the last 5 or 6 weeks.

Nice team. Agree that you should keep Adams for another week to see how he does, probably keep him until until the Man City match.

I'd look to move Ba out in the coming weeks, definitely keep him this week but then he has tough fixtures and African nations. I'm not sure if you can afford him, but would look at Adebyor, especially with his double game week.

It would be hard to part with Jones, but Valencia could be a good signing, it may involve alot of shuffling though. If you do decide to move Jones out think Walker or BAE.

Barnett on the bench could be upgraded (Caulker), but not a pressing concern.

can't decide on which one to bench

Walters -villa at home , oop , pens etc , definite starter

Welbeck - played recently and looked ok , unied attack functions better goal wise with him playing , it seems , and best of all Wigan at home .
On the negative it's welbeck and big rotation risk

Bale - plays , in form with Norwich next , away though

I wouldn't. Ba nailed on starter and in great form, chica coming back from injury and rotation risk. Jones will probably play, in good form and got 2 very good fixtures at home. Stokes fixtures good but would back man u defence over stokes any day, even with their injuries. Also, think jones more likely to get attacking points, even if he plays cb.

    RMT please:

    Vorm
    Walker - Verm - Enrique
    Silva - Nani - Walters - Drenthe
    Ade - Sturridge - RVP

    Bench: Ruddy, Allen, Simpson, Wilkinson

Already used my Free transfer for Yak to Strurridge transfer. Have 1.7m in the bank
Would either be worth a 4 point hit?

    A) Wilkinson to Evans (Evans price is rising)
    B) Walters to Valencia (not sure on this)
    C) no transfer, no 4 point hit.

I'm anxious over the lack of Rooney in my team. In the next four games, I think he could bring in over 150 points if captained.

But it would be madness to do Silva and Ba > Rooney and Drenthe, right? I love Silva, but could get him back in with the January wildcard, and plan to replace Ba next week anyway.

    Team at the moment:

    Vorm

    Jones Enrique Brown

    Silva Bale Nani Walters

    Adebayor Ba RVP(c)

    Bench: Schwarzer Simpson Jagielka Gower

      150/2 = 75 points
75/4 = 18.75 points on average over the next four weeks? And thats a minimum if you say he can bring in over 150!

He's playing Wigan, Bolton and Blackburn at home. 19 points is only an average of a couple of goals, a couple of assists and 3 bonus points for each of the next 4 games.

Are you certain that's not going to happen?

Keep RVP as captain and maintain a balance squad with no points hits - you'll be fine.

Rooney got 7 points from a 5-0 win. If Arsenal win 5-0, then RVP is almost guaranteed to bag a major, major haul.

True, Mark. But I missed out on his massive hauls earlier in the season, and can see it happening again. It would be difficult to find a set of 4 easier fixtures than his next 4.

        A convincing argument.
But he had two gameweeks early on where he scored 22 then 17. One was against Arsenal, the other Bolton away. Captaining him for those 2 weeks would have given you 78 points. It can happen again.
