Boxing Day. Unfortunately for these pages, a day named for boxes rather than on-field pugilists, but despite that fact we still have some disciplinary matters to round up…

First on the FA’s morning docket will be Wigan striker (and headline writer’s dream) Conor Sammon, after his red in the 5-0 drubbing from a United side with some notable absentees. His 39th minute clash with Michael Carrick – while the game was still 1-0 – resulted in a straight red and an immediate three-match ban for the Irishman (sto, SUN) followed by the FA Cup trip to Swindon. However, with reports surfacing of agreement between Martínez and Ferguson that the card was harsh and some suggestions that the Wigan manager has already stated his intention to appeal, this may not be the last we hear on this matter.

The other points of note from the games today were fourth yellow cards of the season for Newcastle’s Ivorian enforcer Cheick Tioté and recent Watchlist focus Robert Huth of Stoke. If either is now booked in their final games of the year – the Friday night clash at Liverpool for Tiote and the hosting of Wigan the following day for Huth – then they will incur the customary one-match ban. Avoid caution in that game and they will pass the 1st January deadline unpunished, after which the bar will be raised to 10 yellows before any censure.

  He seems to be in favor with Penant coming on during the game for a right back with Shotton shifting back in defense. I think it gives pulis flexibility and allows him to change tactics during a game.

    Only top team that has played at SWA is MUN and they scored 1 when they were doing the 1 - 0's. I think TOT will score. The only problem I see is Vorm saving a penalty like Jafalad says.
    
    I want to get Howard for Al Habsi for free this week cause I think there could be a better chance for a cleanie and mostly so I am ready for DGW. Or should I just wait until next week and play Vorm?

        True when looking at CS EVE only have 3 but if you look at how many goals the defense has let in then they have the 5th best defense in the league. 20 total = 10 away + 10 home. Pretty good they just can't score.

      At the moment, no Everton players for me, with 3 Spurs.
      Reason;
      Everton aren't scoring goals, and they 'shouldn't' keep a clean sheet against Spurs, with Spurs home defensive record (3 goals conceded all season I think) I don't see Everton scoring. Aswell as the fact that all my midfield/attack have good fixtures GW20 and/or 21 I feel it would be a waste getting rid of a big hitter for an Everton attacker.
      So, at the moment, I have Bale and Adebayor, and will get in Walker for GW20.

        Would you take a hit for a defender in these circumstances? Next week I will only have two defenders available: Vermaelen / Enrique (Caulker / Evans / De Laet). Although it seems like a no brainer, my thinking is that if I do nothing I'll get 0 points for that slot, if I take a hit and the new guy scores 2, I'm -2 for that slot, and if he gets a CL and gets 6, I'm +2. De Laet -> Shotton looks a good chance of a CL, but nothing is guaranteed...

        Pete-if you are going to buy a defender in, you'd want some mileage and returns for your money.
        
        You have 2.2 in the bank so money isn't a problem. I looked at TOT's fixtures today and noticed they had 4/5 at home. I'd be looking at BAE 5.2 or Walker 5.8. Five games with a decent chance of returns would be worth the hit.

        I was thinking this transfer too, as it solves the 3rd defender problem next week as well as giving me another Spurs player for the DGW. The other thing is that it if I do Evans -> BAE, it leaves me 1.5 for Gower -> Drenthe which I have had my eyes on for a while. But that would be more in hope of a big return in the first game of the DGW. My only concern with bringing in a 3rd Spurs player now is that it rules out bringing VDV back in if he fires in the next two matches. Thanks though mate, it is sound advice...

        Yes, the VDV situation is a dilemna although there is no guarantee he'll get much gametime or points, as has been his wont of late.
        
        I was thinking of doing Evans->BAE also but will see how TOT look at NOR.
        
        Not too sure if I'll bother with EVE. Too much hassle to take out the likes of Silva and Nani and buy them back again.

      Your defenders are good. Brown's upcoming fixtures are not so great but I really would wait and see what the story is with Evans before you make any moves. Ba's fixture for this week is just as good as Ade's.
