The giants are being cut down to size with alarming regularity. Bobby Zamora’s at the death volley, sweetly struck inside Wojciech Szczesny’s near post, was another blow applied to the Premier League’s big boys. This was just the latest in a line of recent upsets that have seen United, City and Chelsea lose to middle ground opponents as the New Year programme continued to provide Fantasy managers an unpredictable passage into 2012.

The Craven Cottage result also marked the end of another unremarkable day in Fantasy terms. Robin Van Persie again failed to deliver returns (it’s becoming a nasty habit now), ironically in a gameweek that will have seen thousands switch their attention, and their captain’s armbands, to double gameweek prospects in the Spurs and Everton ranks. With such slim pickings from Monday’s five games – the expectation on players form those two teams to produce is now weightier than ever.

Chelsea did at least make a recovery from the winding dished out by Villa at Stamford Bridge at the weekend. The Blues’ 2-1 win at Molineux today was a battle, a scrap that was missed by Didier Drogba and, more significantly, Daniel Sturridge.

We did at least get early warning of the striker’s potential absence and Chelsea have today confirmed that their leading scorer and Fantasy asset missed the midlands trip with a contusion to his hip – brusing in other words. His 16% ownership will be hoping that the timely break for FA Cup duty will be enough to see Sturridge make a return. Andre Villas-Boas has even indicated he could make the cup tie with Portsmouth. Regardless of his expected recovery time, with January wildcards fluttering, we’re already seeing an alarming decline in confidence.

Patience will be paper thin leading up to gameweek 21. With FPL managers handed the opportunity to refresh their squads, the dead wood will be shed. The trick of course, is to correctly identify those surplus to requirements – a Chelsea striker who has delivered well above his modest price tag and who is playing for a Euro 2012 spot, may not fall into this category. In ruthless times however, Sturridge has already become a casualty. Already he’s seen more sales in the gameweek than any other player.

Looking closer at the current FPL transfer trends – the likes of David Silva, Nani, Sergio Aguero, Ryan Taylor and even Jose Enrique are ranked at the very top of the transfers out right now. These players have been giants this season – consistent scorers who have served their Fantasy owners well. Let’s get this clear – these are transfers after the gameweek 20 deadline, they are not victims of the scramble for double gameweek assets but players cast aside, presumably as part of a wildcard shopping sprees inspired by another disappointing return.

The last few days have seen the Premier League elite humbled – clearly this has dented the confidence of some Fantasy managers. The thing about the Premier League’s best, however, is that once toppled, they do tend to get up again.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

It depends on when you are wildcarding. His next 3 are Stoke, Bolton and Wolves so he could be a decent short term punt.

You must have a high wage bill there. Looks like a good side, plenty of options to change up/down as needed as well. Only concern would be three united as their fixtures aren't amazing. Maybe Nani 0> Silva to give you man city coverage as well there fixtures look nicer?

If you fancy Ben Arfa just transfer him in. Could work out well with QPR at home.

    Question re Wildcard.

    1. Let's say for example I chose to play my wild card today. And I selected a player like Yak before the next dealine Yak's price increased by 0.2M, could i sell him during the same WC and profit 0.1 without hit?

    2. In the above example lets say i were to swap Sturridge for Yak press "confirm transfer" and then swap him back before deadline. Will i have to pay the current price for Sturridge or the price inwhich i origionally bought him ?

    3. Can I change my team an unlimited amout of times before the next deadline without penalty? (for example make 2 transfers today and 2 next week).

    Thanks for your help!

In fact, I'd WC tonight just to get him back.

I'd have thought Torres still most likely, with Sturridge at the back post...I mean Right Wing.
      Lukaku also an option.

Got rid of Ramsey, had the choice between getting rid of him or Ramires - so made the right choice! But definitely loved the Koscielny goal! Arsenal losing and Koscielny scoring is a great outcome.

            Torres will stay.

Been tinkering a bit of potential wildcard team was wondering what peoples thoughts are, would have to do it tonight as would leave me with 0 in the bank

    Current team
    Vorm/Krul
    Evans/Hibbert/Jones/Walker/Enrique
    Walters/Bale/Nani/Drenthe/Silva
    Rvp/Ade/Sturridge

    Potential wildcard team
    Ruddy/Vorm
    Kompany/Evans or Simpson/Jones/Walker/Enrique
    Walters/Dempsey/Valencia/Silva/Bale

I dont see why. I think he's odds on to play until the end of the year. Others think Jones/Rio are first choice, but Jones plays everywhere else too often and SAF has lost faith in Rio.

I'll probably roll back with Silva despite the Modric-like tendencies creeping back. I think Silva and a cheap striker is a better combo than Aguero and a cheap midfielder.

Despite the fixtures, I may go with neither. Crazy as it may seem the source of points from City is so unpredictable and with so much rotation, I may leave that coverage until they're back in top gear.

Does Jones warrant an extra 1.8 over Jones (his current price in my team)?

Jones -> Evans frees up so much funds..

    Sorenson Vorm
    Richards Evans Kelly McAuley Shotton
    Bale Valencia Silva Dempsey Drenthe
    RVP Aguero Yak

0.0 at the bank at present, obviously won't be able to do it after price rises/falls.. Midfield too expensive?

So, realistically, how much rotation do you expect tomorrow?

Redknapp isn't normally one for much rotation, so he could easily play the same side again, and then just rest everyone against Cheltenham, yeah? That's what I'm hoping at least.

Not much. He doesn't usually muck about with the team. I think it'll be the same. Parker came off with a knock at Swansea, so he's a worry. VDV will probably get his usual 60 minutes. Redknapp seems to like to try and win the game first before resting players.
