The giants are being cut down to size with alarming regularity. Bobby Zamora’s at the death volley, sweetly struck inside Wojciech Szczesny’s near post, was another blow applied to the Premier League’s big boys. This was just the latest in a line of recent upsets that have seen United, City and Chelsea lose to middle ground opponents as the New Year programme continued to provide Fantasy managers an unpredictable passage into 2012.

The Craven Cottage result also marked the end of another unremarkable day in Fantasy terms. Robin Van Persie again failed to deliver returns (it’s becoming a nasty habit now), ironically in a gameweek that will have seen thousands switch their attention, and their captain’s armbands, to double gameweek prospects in the Spurs and Everton ranks. With such slim pickings from Monday’s five games – the expectation on players form those two teams to produce is now weightier than ever.

Chelsea did at least make a recovery from the winding dished out by Villa at Stamford Bridge at the weekend. The Blues’ 2-1 win at Molineux today was a battle, a scrap that was missed by Didier Drogba and, more significantly, Daniel Sturridge.

We did at least get early warning of the striker’s potential absence and Chelsea have today confirmed that their leading scorer and Fantasy asset missed the midlands trip with a contusion to his hip – brusing in other words. His 16% ownership will be hoping that the timely break for FA Cup duty will be enough to see Sturridge make a return. Andre Villas-Boas has even indicated he could make the cup tie with Portsmouth. Regardless of his expected recovery time, with January wildcards fluttering, we’re already seeing an alarming decline in confidence.

Patience will be paper thin leading up to gameweek 21. With FPL managers handed the opportunity to refresh their squads, the dead wood will be shed. The trick of course, is to correctly identify those surplus to requirements – a Chelsea striker who has delivered well above his modest price tag and who is playing for a Euro 2012 spot, may not fall into this category. In ruthless times however, Sturridge has already become a casualty. Already he’s seen more sales in the gameweek than any other player.

Looking closer at the current FPL transfer trends – the likes of David Silva, Nani, Sergio Aguero, Ryan Taylor and even Jose Enrique are ranked at the very top of the transfers out right now. These players have been giants this season – consistent scorers who have served their Fantasy owners well. Let’s get this clear – these are transfers after the gameweek 20 deadline, they are not victims of the scramble for double gameweek assets but players cast aside, presumably as part of a wildcard shopping sprees inspired by another disappointing return.

The last few days have seen the Premier League elite humbled – clearly this has dented the confidence of some Fantasy managers. The thing about the Premier League’s best, however, is that once toppled, they do tend to get up again.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

If Ba will not play vs QPR, who would you replace him with. I am only considering fixtures until end of Jan as I am WC at end of month.

    1 Sturridge (no Chelsea players)
    2 Bellamy (have Enrique
3 Another - suggestions for less than 7.6M

Wish my mini-league players did this kind of thing. Basically the top 5 in mine (I'm 2nd) all have the same Spurs players (BAE, Bale, Ade)

The only differential is who we've captained. Hopefully Bale will do the business and I find myself strangely hoping that Ade, who I also own, has a massive fail just so I can progress in my mini-league

I'm happy to keep my Utd, City & Spurs players untouched for GW21. Utd have Bolton, Spurs have Wolves and City have Wigan so there is definitely the opportunity for points there.

Probably something in the region of 25%. Heard rumours on here he hasnt even been training.

I've been holding onto him for about 6 weeks partly because I have a strong MF so was happy to see him doing nowt on my bench but mostly because of this DGW coming up. Now it's looking more and more likely he will play a very minor part in the games (if at all).

Overall a massive transfer fail on my part

Truth is I predicted 2-1 to Norwich on the Vital QPR predictions league this morning. Knew that somehow, someway, we were going to lose this.

When we went 1-0 up I was waiting for the inevitable Norwich equaliser. Once Barton got sent off it was a done deal we would lose.

Hate to say it but this looks grim for us now. We have now got into the losing habit and its not a habit to be getting into in this League.

Wouldn't surprise me if we are in the bottom 3 by the end of the next gameweek. I can't see where our next win is coming from, Crouch, I really can't.

Was close to tears at the end of today's game as I have this nasty feeling that this result will end up being the point of no return for us.

Read some comments from Pardew (somebody linked on here) and I think it's more likely C.

He basically said he's been talking to Senegal management and that if the Toures can stay for longer then Ba should be able to stay too as they are in the same boat/league.

I got rid last GW anyway so not a big concern now but that QPR game could be a bumper GW for old Demba

We can't defend and can't score, can't keep a lead or a clean sheet and don't seem to have any stomach for a relegation dogfight.

Slightly embarrassed to say so, but not really that interested in the goings on of the nPower leagues.

For those of you watching though, and seeing that clip earlier, how is Gary Mingeson faring in managerial world? Better than Iain Dowie?

Maybe you are a fantasy manager who is held in such high regard amongst footballers that as soon as N Dyer heard you had dropped him, It sparked a sea change in his approach to playing football and his work rate etc.....

      It's a possibilty anyway 😕

Anyone taking any bets on whether current leader with 56 points will be top at end of GW?

I wouldn't as all he already has 11 players with points!

This is his 1st week in fpl and he clearly couldn't wait till Tuesday to see how many he would score. At least at end of season he will be able to claim he was - for a moment -leading scorer out of 2.6 million odd.

Sorry if this has already been noted but only just come on

Sturridge is fairly easy to get back in, but Chelsea are not exactly killing teams at the moment. Sturridge isn't a two goal a game guy anyway so its not like a Yakubu or Morison instead of Sturridge is going to hurt you.

I'm thinking of going for 2 cheaps alongside RVP with my WC as there seems to be a lot of decent value now in the low range strikers.

If Cahill signs for Chelsea then he would be a nailed on starter imo. Chelsea would be vastly improved defensively as a result, Ivanovic would go back to right back ousting the 2 liabilities (Bosingwa and Luiz). Really hope he signs for them, defninite season keeper @5.2. His goal threat will increase also, playing for a better team. More corners, with better delivery.

OK, top this most recent one. Last week, only had two defenders playing, already used my FT to swap Schwarzer out for Friedel (thinking I'd bring him a week earlier than the DGW because he'd get a CS away to Swansea). So I could have just worn a 0 from my missing 3rd defender (Evans / Caulker / De Laet), but I decide to take a hit in search of a CS, which would have only effectively given me an extra 2 points anyway. Decided to transfer Evans out, had 5.3 availabe, and somehow dismiss the idea of bringing Hibbert in despite his DGW comimg up and go with Shawcross instead thinking he'll outscore Hibbert over GW 19 & 20. Shawcross has got me 3 points having played twice, Hibbert would have got me 12 so far with two games still to go. And he cost 0.3 less to boot. Daft enough?

I need Nani, Ba or Sess not to play for Pilkington to come off the bench. Any chance.

I could handle Nani not playing. Think the other 2 will play.
