Sir Alex Ferguson is hopeful of returns for key players ahead of the champions’ trip to Newcastle. Aaron Lennon could return earlier than anticipated for Tottenham, while the injury worries rack up for Martin O’Neill as Sunderland make their way to Wigan:

Aaron Lennon may be in line for a surprise return to the Spurs side this evening, according to reports. The winger suffered a hamstring injury back in gameweek 16 and was withdrawn before the half-hour mark in the 1-0 win over Sunderland but is recovering quicker than anticipated. Harry Redknapp is expected to make a late decision on his availability, though with a new 4-2-3-1 system in place as an alternative to 4-4-2, is in no rush to hurry Lennon back.

Jussi Jaaskelainen is a major doubt for Bolton ahead of their trip to Everton tomorrow evening. Adam Bogdan is on standby to replace him but given that he shipped 5 goals in his only appearance of the season – an error-strewn home match with Chelsea- confidence in the Trotters’ ranks will hardly be high for the Goodison showdown. Good news, perhaps, for those who topped up on Everton players for the double gameweek.

Wayne Rooney, Rio Ferdinand and Ryan Giggs could all be available for tomorrow’s game with Newcastle. Anderson should also feature, according to Sir Alex Ferguson, though the United boss went on to say that no other players are expected back immediately. On the subject of his star striker, Ferguson revealed:

Wayne Rooney will be available of course. We had a few training sessions which he missed. You’ve got to be fit to play in this league, you can’t miss training sessions.

Martin O’Neill will make a late decision on the fitness of Wes Brown after the defender limped out of Sunderland’s win over Man City with a groin problem. The Black Cats boss doesn’t have his problems to seek right now, with David Bardsley a major doubt and Titus Bramble ruled out, with thigh and calf injuries respectively. Kieren Westwood and Kieran Richardson both missed the City match with a virus and are uncertain starters. O’Neill admitted:

Wes will be checked over, as will all the other players who are injured, but I don’t expect him to be involved at Wigan with it being a groin strain. As far as the other players are concerned, Phil Bardsley is the only one who might have an outside chance of an involvement against Wigan.

Chelsea bid to sign Gary Cahill may take longer than previously anticipated. Despite the Blues reportedly agreeing a fee with Bolton for the defender’s services, Andre Villas-Boas admitted yesterday that the two parties were some distance away from finalising any deal.

Neil Warnock revealed he is unlikely to appeal Joey Barton’s red card picked up against Norwich. The midfielder has protested his innocence over an alleged head-butt on the Canaries Bradley Johnson but Warnock feels recent decisions, particularly Wolves’ failure to have Nenad Milijas’ dismissal at Arsenal overturned, may lead to any appeal being futile.

Alan Pardew received some positive injury news todays, with Gabriel Obertan being passed fit to face former club Man United. The winger was previously a doubt with a foot injury but has recovered sufficiently ahead of tomorrow night’s home clash against the champions.

Am looking at a front 3 of RVP, Aguero and Ade so reckon between the 3 of them I should have at least one good C option, oh and also keeping hold of Bale. But your right in that Nani does have more goal scoring potential, especially when on form, over Valencia. I've survived this long with non-playing Fergie on the bench without having to call on him but would like to bulk up for 2nd half of season with wildcard if possible.

Hmm... I'm thinking a semi long term (gw30) team.

    Vorm (Ruddy)
    Jones Richards Senderos (Caulker/Simpson)
    Silva Nani Bale Dempsey (Moses)
    Adebayor RvP Sturridge

I'm quite happy with it, I have .2 in the bank then. I saw talk of the vorm/ruddy combo just I think it's best because vorm is just an excellent keeper, and even when he doesn't get clean sheets he has 3+saves a match. Ruddy is just cheap that's about it and he gets 90 mins. Thoughts?

Yes you can make as many transfers you like right up to the next deadline.

But you will lose value on players if applicable.

I.e. you sell Sturridge today for 7.3m. If you want to buy him back tomorrow you pay the going rate.

The same general issues seem to be arising with these RMWCTs:

    (a) Goal-keeper combo: Vorm + ?
    (b) Phil Jones or Johnny Evans to free up funds elsewhere?
    (c) One or two cheap defenders such as Caulker, Shotton or Wilko?
    (d) Keeping/ditching your United midfield representation? And if keeping, Nani over Valencia or vice-versa?
    (e) Is Dempsey a 'must'?
    (f) Silva or Aguero (or both)?
    (g) Sturridge as the third striker? Or a real cheapie such as Morrison, Holt, Graham etc?

    Have I missed anything? 🙂

Dempsey may not be a must but 3 nice fixtures for Fulham between now and gw 25 make him highly desirable.

    draft WC GW23 as follows:

    Lindegard - Vorm
    Jevans - Richards - Kompany - Shotton - Caulker
    Silva - Bale - Dempsey - Walters - Moses
    Adebayor - Rooney - RVP

Leaves 0m in the bank so considering:

Silva, Rooney, Kompany > Nani, Aguero, Clichy

Which will free up 0.8m for future transfers.

    thoughts please guys.

Cheers guys, as it happens i can keep kompany and still have:

        Lindegard – Vorm
        Jevans – Richards – Kompany – Shotton – Caulker
        Nani – Bale – Dempsey – Walters – Moses
        Adebayor – Aguero – RVP

current TV: 111.2m with a real value of 106.6m, first season on FPL and got a little addicted to taking hits to make money via fiso, might pay off when it comes to the GW23 WC. just gotta stop taking the hits now!

    RMWCT Please

    Krul - Sorenson

    Clichy - Naylor - Jevans - kelly - Santon/Shotton

    Silva - Bale - Valencia - Gerrard - Moses

    RVP - Hernandez - Sturridge

    Leaves 0.1 in the bank

    How weak is the defence?

Is Gerrard to expensive for a bit of a risk, who could replace him that will score well?

I could go Yakubu instead of Sturridge to free up cash, is this sensible or not?

    Any advice appreciated thanks

A few risks in defence mate. I think a few players could suffer from rotation. Personally, I would pick Adebayor over Hernandez as well. This will free up funds to upgrade your defence. Gerrard is a risk (due to his high level of injuries). However, it could work out great and even if it doesn't, you can pretty swap him for any other midfielder in the prem.

      A good team though.

cheers for reply mate, i would be a bit worried about the defence alright, ive had a fairly strong defence all season so it would be going in completely the other direction, being a utd fan i would like to get behind hernandez at the business end of the season, with regards to gerrard i guess tonights game will reveal a lot

That is fair enough. Hernandez should do well really if he can stay fit. If I was going to get in Gerrard for wildcard team, I would try and use it as close to the wildcard deadline as possible, This is in order to gauge whether he does well and most importantly, does not get injured,

You could go for someone like Walters, Larsson, Sessegnon or Sinclair instead of Gerrard and use that money to upgrade your defence.

Dont like Clichy, Valencia or Hernandez - too prone to rotation for the money your spending
Get Dempsey and Adebayor - far better bets for the cash, use savings to get Richards for 6.3
I like Gerrard tho, worth a punt in my opinion

Not so weak but could suffer in the period of rotation. Naylor is only nailed on starter. The rest have beed rotated often. I would reconsider the need for Gerrard and Hernandez. The fund there could be used to improve stability of your DF.

Looking at two short-term options for Gameweek 21. I have two FT's and will look into using my wildcard in gameweek 23.

    Do you prefer:

    a) Ba > Yakubu
    b) Gallas > a defender with a value of 6.3 or less (I expect Gallas to lose his starting place if King is fit as expected by GW 21). Alternatively, I could upgrade Wes Brown to a defender 6m or less. My current defenders are: Gallas, Brown, Kompany, Simpson, J Enrique.

    a) Ba > Sturridge
    b) Drenthe > Moses
