The Sunderland revival brings their Fantasy assets to the fore, with Stephane Sessegnon looking particularly ripe for investment. Yaya Toure helps Man City dismantle a sorry Liverpool, while Spurs make a slow start to their double gameweek, thanks to a stubborn West Brom.

Yaya Toure
There’s no doubt the Ivorian’s imminent departure to the African Cup of Nations is a huge blow for Man City and his performance last night against Liverpool served a reminder of just what Toure brings to Roberto Mancini’s side. Post-match, the Italian admitted the player was “irreplaceable“ as Toure’s guile and craft, combined with dynamic running from start to finish, helped him to a goal and assist against a lacklustre Liverpool. Pre-bonus, he’s already on 11 points, his best haul of the season. In terms of “valueâ€, he is neck and neck with David Silva on 11.2, having returned 85 points from a price of 7.6.

David Silva
Without a single assist in his last five appearances, some of Silva’s Fantasy owners were getting restless prior to last night’s performance. With City having failed to score in their last couple of matches and perhaps with the double gameweek in mind, the previous three gameweeks had seen plenty transfer the little Spaniard out but Silva returned to form, with a couple of assists helping the league leaders get back to winning ways. City’s fixtures over the next couple of months look particularly enticing and with the winter wildcard in play, he’ll no doubt be prone to plenty more investment, adding to his current 43.4% ownership, easily the most popular player in the game.

Gareth Bale
While Tottenham failed to return the points hauls many of us had anticipated, the Welshman got his double gameweek off to a reasonable start with an assist for Jermain Defoe’s only goal. Bale has now provided an assist in each of his last four home appearances and looks a good shout for a share of the bonus, which is more than can be said for Emmanuel Adebayor. The Togo international had a poor night, though there’s still reason for optimism if he’s paired with Defoe again for next week’s clash with Everton; the pair had started five games together prior to last night, with Adebayor bagging 5 goals, including a couple of braces.

Stephane Sessegnon
Here’s a damning stat for Steve Bruce- Sunderland have score more goals in their last two away games under Martin O’Neill than they did in all seven on the road under the previous regime. Sessegnon again stepped up for the Black Cats and looks a different Fantasy prospect altogether since Bruce’s departure- a goal and assist at the DW Stadium means he has returned attacking points in each of his last four appearances as the Wearsiders surge up the table. The Sunderland players have spoken of a renewed self-belief and a look at Sessegnon’s game time perhaps explains why- he has played every minute of O’Neill’s six-match tenure, whereas under Bruce, the highest number of consecutive ninety minute appearances he mustered was three. With Swansea and Norwich to come at home after a tricky trip to Liverpool, he’ll have no shortage of Fantasy investors over the next few weeks as wildcards come into play.

David Vaughan
Another beneficiary of the O’Neill effect, Vaughan has started all six of the new manager’s games in charge- his longest run in the first XI prior to this was three matches. A goal and assist against Wigan is indicative of his flourishing form within the Sunderland side and he has now netted twice since Bruce left- he had previously failed to score all season.

James McClean
Afforded his first start against Man City last week, the winger picked up 3 bonus points and O’Neill’s decision to keep him in the first XI was vindicated at Wigan. McClean grabbed a goal in the 4-1 rout and priced at just 4.5, is a potential bargain right now, given his side’s buoyant form. It’s perhaps debatable if he’ll keep that first-team place once Sunderland have a clean bill of health but McClean – who had previously been granted 47 minutes in the first 14 gameweeks by Bruce- has demonstrated he’s more than capable of producing.

Hugo Rodallega
The Columbian continued his recent impressive form, despite Wigan’s home thrashing. Rodallega’s goal denied the Black Cats a second consecutive clean sheet and adds to his couple of assists in the previous game at Stoke. The Latics have a strong set of fixtures on the horizon from gameweek 24 onwards, though, (EVA, bol, AVL, SWA, nor, WBA) and Rodallega could continue to prosper if his side can rediscover the recent form that had seen them draw with the likes of Liverpool and Chelsea, in addition to picking up a point at the Britannia. Victor Moses’ owners take note, though; the winger was benched for the first time this season, though an injury to Albert Crusat saw him subbed on just before half-time

Not at all impressed with the possible Drenthe replacements for the next 3 weeks, I have only 6.0 to spend.

Sunderland midfielders look a sound bet for the final two, but I need someone who'll be able to play this week.

He got banned a couple of weeks ago. I know this because my brother transferred him in for the two easy home games, and he got booked in the first and so missed the second.

        I laughed.

Not much good stuff in that department ðŸ™

I guess you don't want a punt on Stilyan Petrov? He has the best PPG of the regular players in that price range and has good fixtures. Probably the least exciting pick ever though.

Was looking at this late last night, and three of the names I looked closely at (there were probably many others though) were Ben Arfa, Cabaye and Petrov/Ireland!

Would much rather gamble on Ireland to be honest, much more exciting pick than Petrov. I'll ask the Villa fans - well, just Epic Fail - to see if they think he'll be guaranteed minutes over the next couple of weeks. With Bent and Agbonlahor both fit now, I'm not sure if he will be.

I'm a Villa fan and I would avoid all Villa players just for the moment. McCleish is yet to find a winning formula and we are just to inconsistent. Ireland's one for the watchlist, but I really would hold off for now. Anyway in for Sess at all?

This is the reason I think I'll be WC'ing this week. I need to ship Drenthe but theres no one really worth having in that price range, so I'll have to do a large reshuffle.

anything wrong with that wildcard team?

wanted walters but his fixtures are tough and it would mean dropping one of my defenders who are getting me clean sheets

Thats my fear, using WC when I have 2 frees, will feel scandalous! Unless I can somehow just make 2 that week, then save WC for week after.

Newcastle cover makes the most obvious sense. Unless taking a punt on somehow like Murphy, he still on pens for FUL?

Ah, missed the bit about the wildcard next week, so it does make sense to use both transfers. Surely there are plenty of moves that will enhance your score for just this week...

Not much of a clue which player I'd get rid of though! Bar Drenthe, all of your forward seven have great fixtures and look undroppable, and your defenders have similarly good fixtures!

    A:

    Kelly – Enrique – Jones – Caulker – Simpson
    MCCLEAN – WALTERS – Silva – Bale – Sessegnon
AGUERO – Sturridge – Van Persie

    B:

Looks very decent, I have no issue with the individual players, but - with me not being on a wildcard - I'm not clued up which teams rotate well. Are you sure that in most weeks you'll be able to play three defenders with respectable fixtures?

And I wouldn't be too keen on doubling up on the Swansea defence with their fixtures.

thanks mate. yak and silva do seem more consistent points wise but ageuro offers the chance to captain him if rvp aint firing.

        dilemma indeed.

how would you rate my WC team?

anyone else think that although dempsey is a great fpl player, at 8.5 hes just not worth it considering the likes of dembele ruiz zamora murphyall around him who can take his points as well as not playing for a side in the top 6

Anyone considering Stevie G for the WC Team:

Next 4 fixtures look ok: Stoke City (H) ,Bolton (A),Wolves (A)

    Then 4 Tough games although 3/4 @ home: Tottenham (H), Man Utd (A), Everton (H), Arsenal (H)

GW28 till end of season fixtures look great:
    Sunderland (A), QPR (A), Wigan (H), Newcastle (A), Aston Villa (H), Blackburn (A)
    Fulham (H) , West Brom (H), Norwich (A), Chelsea (H), Swansea (A)

Ive always seen Gerrard was a big game player esp. against Man U & Everton so worth getting in soon?

No , No, No-No-No, No..to the tune of 'there's no limits'.

Look at his price and ask yourself will be get you as much as say RVP, Rooney, Nani, Mata, Aguero Silva, Bale ..even Dempsey.

Gerrard will have his occasional moment of Lord Stevieness, but he's yesterday's man FPL wise.

Haha it was all in my extremely lengthy reply to you if you saw it!

Ironically Sandro being out (just in!) messes everything up because the two systems they play require an available DM and Parker is out too. So we are in unknown territory right now. I'll watch the full 90 against Everton to see what Harry does next.

Applying the method though, Harry is unlikely to play 4-2-3-1 with both DMs missing. So he'll probably play 4-4-2. Now it would be tempting to play VDV and Modric in the centre with Bale and Lennon on the flanks, Defoe and Ade up top but that leaves no defensive coverage. Instead Modric and Kranjcar in the middle (he came on last night and Livermore is out) with Bale and Lennon/VDV on the right is likelier. VDV could also play second striker in Defoe's place. Either way, play down the flanks which suits Ade and Bale more.

                So if you want predictions:
4-4-2 with Kranjcar/Modric in centre UNLESS Parker returns in which case all bets are off
                Defoe out if Lennon returns.
Bale and Ade to outperform VDV.

I don't own Richards and am an ex-Kompany owner - surprised Richards isn't regarded as the best defensive option now. His attacking returns are amazing - with 6 assists and 1 goal he has more attacking points than Jones, Skrtel, Enrique, BAE, Walker, Kompany and around the same as Verm and Baines, but considerably cheaper. Watching the matches he overlaps to a frightening degree and against lesser opposition is essentially another winger (the Valencia role). Also, he only missed earlier matches due to injury and will get the same CS Kompany works so hard for...

But he's not nailed on, like you know 100% Kompany will play 90 mins week in week out. Richards came off after 58 minutes the other day, that would have been infuriating. I think with Kompany you get the peace of mind, and he really is a rock at the back. Almost scored yesterday as well, so no slacking there. Not disagreeing with you, just giving the other side of the coin. Debating the two for my team atm.

Cheers yeah I know Kompany is technically the safer option in a 95% v 90% kind of way (as in FPL you can never be sure on anyone making it to the match!) So I guess it's a tradeoff between a rather small chance of missing out and a decent chance of an assist. The other side of the coin is also that I figure Kompany gets more cards as the last line of defence - it took me a while to forget his red for a professional foul that lost an 85th minute CS v Wolves... good def though.

Kompany has been a massive threat from corners lately - forced Reina into a very good save yesterday and is on a higher PPG than Richards, even with his 1 goal and 6 assists. Anyway I think they're both great options, will double up when I can.

am not looking to wc just yet but am looking at a potential team, how does this look?

    Sorensen, Friedel

    Brown, Jones, BAE, McAuley __________

    Silva, Valencia, Bale, Sess ________

    Aguero, RvP ___________

have 16.7 million to fill in the gaps

    a) Caulker, Cleverley (or other 5.4 or less mid), Sturridge

    b) Ward/Evans, Allen, Sturridge

    c) Cahill, Cleverley, Yakubu

    d) Caulker. Etherington, Yakubu

am I spending too much for Friedel? High cs numbers, only Hennessey has more saves.

I would keep morison and swap cabaye forsilva, keep morison as first sub, 3-5-2.
Morison is the best value for money in FPL at the min

Definitely going to have Huth, Shawcross and Walters in my wildcard team for week 24.

    SUN ful SWA NOR

Although the worry is that both Valencia ties come around that time. I'm guessing that Pulis will play his strongest side in these matches, unlike in the group stages..... NeedleVor?!
