The first of the disciplinary elephants was ushered noisily out of the room this week as Liverpool and Luis Suarez accepted both the token fine and lengthy ban as punishment for the Patrice Evra incident. With the other elephant wedged firmly in the corner while the Metropolitan Police continue their investigations into claims against John Terry, we were in danger of a disciplinary void forming amongst this zoo.

Never one to pass up an opportunity though, Joey Barton stepped forward, first with his head in the vicinity of Norwich midfielder Bradley Johnson on Monday, and second with the full force of his Twitter feed in the subsequent days, to whip up a media storm of his own alongside the immediate 3 match ban he will serve. The appeal by QPR having failed, Barton will now be missing for the FA Cup tie in Milton Keynes and fixtures in gameweeks 21 and 22 (new, WIG).

Elsewhere, there were also red cards in the gameweek for Arsenal’s Johan Djourou, booked twice in the defeat at Fulham on Monday, and Manchester City midfielder Gareth Barry who suffered the same fate in the 3-0 win over Liverpool on Tuesday. Both therefore pick up a 1 match ban that will be immediately served in the weekend FA cup fixtures against Leeds and Manchester United respectively, leaving the pair available again for their next league games – away at Swansea for Djourou and at Wigan for the City man.

Finally a note for the yellow cards, and as you may have seen, the Suspension Tightrope widget situated underneath the Watchlist to the right has evolved following the New Year’s amnesty. Instead of showing those sitting nervously on 4 yellows it now helpfully shows those approaching the 10 yellow limit that would now incur a ban. Plenty of familiar names amongst the list, indeed Barton, Barry and Terry all feature fairly prominently, but no one is currently a match for the card magnet supreme of the first half of the season, Blackburn’s Jason Lowe who still leads the way with his 8 yellows, seemingly in a quest to better the tally of 14 (and 1 red) racked up last season’s worst offender, Cheick Tiote.

GAMEWEEK 21 BANS

  • Joey Barton (QPR) – 1 Red for serious foul play (second of 3 matches)
  • Luis Suarez (LIV) – Found guilty of racial abuse (first of 8 matches)

Sounds like crazy talk but is anyone thinking of shipping Walters in their wilcard? Thinking about bringing Sess and Dempsey in and I can't seem to find room for him. Obviously I'd take him over Moses, but Moses is a hell of a lot cheaper and would allow me to upgrade my thread-bare defence.

I just don't see him sustaining his fantasy scoring. His stats suggest he can't keep up this rate of scoring and penalty duties are flattering him at the moment.

    Thoughts?

Last week was his first decent week in a long time, hardly a prosperous fantasy period...however I think I'll keep hold of him. I agree it is pretty much him or Sess though...

Morning folks, it seems that the whole game has been turned on it’s head and suddenly budget players and defenders are doing well again!

The question is, do we go for a big change in tactics in the January wildcard or do we hope the likes of Mata, Nani, Rooney, Aguero, Silva and RVP can hit high scoring form and justify a thread-bare defense?

Players like Sessegnon, Walters, Dempsey, Moses, Fletcher, Yakubu and Morison are vying for spots in our squads and you would need them in order to have a decent defence.

What do people plan to do?

That would have been my thought as well. I don't have Silva, transferred him out to make room for a number of changes and lose some dead weight.

        Team at the mo is:

        Vorm, Lindgaarde
        BAE, Raylor, Jones, (Simpson, Shotton)
        Sessegnon, Bale, Valencia, Walters (Sinclaire)
RVP, Aguero, Sturridge (to be changed for Ba on his return)

When Warnock went into freefall with Shef utd it was Gary Speed who saved us.

I’m going for Kompany and Richards then rotating Fulham and Stoke defenders around them.

          Plan is

          Kompany/Richards/Fulham DF/Stoke DF/4.0 def (poss Caulker)

So I could go for the mainstays in Hangeland and Shawcross and eliminate the rotation aspect, or go for Senderos and Shotton. I’m leaning to the former.

    Hallo all.

Wondering how best to spread my money in my WC team.

I’m trying to decide between having one big striker (and two cheapies to rotate), with a big midfield and solid defence, and playing a 3-5-2 or 4-4-2.

Or having two big strikers, and a solid midfield and defence, and playing a 4-3-3 (but this could leave me with a generic team).

    Examples:

    TEAM A:

    Krul, Vorm
    GJohnson, Kompany, Assou-Ekotto (Evans, Kelly)
    Silva, Bale, Dempsey, Valencia, Walters
    RVP, Sturridge (Morison)

    TEAM B:

    Krul, Vorm
    Kompany, Assou-Ekotto, Evans (Simpson, Kelly)
    Silva, Bale, Valencia, Walters (Dyer)
    RVP, Aguero, Sturridge

    Any thoughts? Ta!

Wont Suraez's missed on for gw21 be the 3rd of his 8 games, not the first at the article says?

Am I also right in thinking, that as he'll miss both semis for CC, and if Liverpool have to play replay or get through to 4th rnd of FA Cup, that his first game back will be ManU?

What a stinker of a week!

I have been sick of the casuals in my mini league getting lucky all season, and genuinely couldnt wait for this DGW to try and get a decent score and create a bit of a gap.

The general idea was everton players face poor bolton at home and anything else is bonus, and spurs have two average home games and youd expect decent returns.

My mini league rival who constantly gets lucky had not realised to do his team. I was clapping my hands in anticipation of getting a decent gap, and he ends up having a blinder. Krul in goal against ManU is lucky, would never have put him in if he remembered to do his team, especially against manu who have prev scored in every game (9pts), then rtaylor coming off bench (6pts)as he had verm injured and would have replaced verm so rtaylor wouldnt have came on, he also just bought yaya last week (going away to africa) so most ppl wouldnt have bought at this time (also gets biggest haul of season pre bonus 3 expected!) plus he's also got pilk and dyer coming off bench for a bucket full of points. Thats about 50-60 points he would prob not have got had he remembered to do his team.

Furious isnt the word, and he's really smug about the whole thing whenever he comes around with his wife, and he thinks he knows loads about football and doesnt, just a lucky smug blagger, and I try so hard each week, never forget to do team etc, and he's still ahead. Its p***ing me off beyond belief.
He gets away with it all the bloody time.

    I have an idea,

ALL PEOPLE WHO DONT DO THEIR TEAM A CERTAIN WEEK:

    1. TOO LAZY
    2. CANT BE ARSED
    3. DONT CARE ENOUGH
    4. THEY FORGOT
    5. DONT TAKE IT SERIOUSLY

THESE PEOPLE SHOULD HAVE TO SUBMIT THEIR TEAMS EACH WEEK,
FAILURE TO SUBMIT YOUR TEAM (REGARDLESS OF CHANGES/NO CHANGES) SHOULD
SCORE ZERO POINTS FOR A GAMEWEEK.

The game should have a 'submit team button' you must press prior to every deadline, leaving you with zero if you fail to report for action.

This would stop the casuals getting lucky/p***ing people off, and reward the people who actually can be arsed/bothered about their teams.

I dont normally go in a strop, its endless torture every single week, anger slowly building up, released in one fell swoop. Totally frustrated by it. And i do take it too seriously, but i cant help it. I probably shouldnt have started this fantasy lark, im too competitive and end up dedicating too much time and effort to it

Inactive or lazy players already get punishment. They dont react to injuries and thus lose points that way.

I'm guessing I'm probably not the first person to say this but... The only reason why Jags kept his spot in my squad was the prospects of this dgw.. (Actually transferred him out a few hrs ago...) But now i read he done his knee!? (only just found out)...

So that now leaves my dead team opponent with VdV + 9pts versus me with Ade (c) for the Cup..

    Vorm Lindy
    Richards Enrique Simpson/Williamson Senderos Jones/Evans
    Silva Nani/Bale Walters Sess Moses
    RVP Aguero Yak

That is a provisonal WC team for GW24 fixtures. Thing is i got a fair bit spare in bank (not enough to get Dempsey however who i want). Some I am saving to get Ba in.

Swap Sturridge for Yak? Is Vorm/Krul still a good rotation for 2nd half. Vorm/Given didnt work for me
