The third round of the FA cup was gearing up to be an exceptionally quiet one for disciplinary matters – until Sunday’s events at the Etihad stadium. Fortunately for this writer, a combination of Vincent Kompany’s two-footed challenge on Nani and Chris Foy’s interpretation of the “tackle”, resulted in a controversial red card and gave us plenty to discuss…

As summarised in the Scout Notes, the City captain was given the crimson flash just 12-minutes into the game and, pending appeal, he is currently in line for an augmented four match absence (by virtue of his previous red card in Gameweek 10), missing Premier League fixtures in gameweeks 21 and 22 (wig, TOT) as well as both legs of the Carling Cup Semi final against Liverpool.

City’s appeal will be heard prior to Wednesday’s first leg with Liverpool and, with Roberto Mancini confident of a reprieve, that could yet see Kompany available for the trip to Wigan this weekend. Many Fantasy Premier League managers aren’t taking any chances though – already sales of the top ranked FPL defender have been flooding through, with over 28,000 transfers out so far in the Gameweek.

In addition to the headline maker, there were also yellow cards on Sunday for two men on our Suspension Tightrope widget, as both Chelsea defender John Terry and Sunderland midfielder Lee Cattermole boosted their tallies with bookings in the wins over Portsmouth and Peterborough respectively. Terry now sits tied with Blackburn’s Jason Lowe at the top of the bad boy list with eight bookings, potentially just a couple of games from a two-match ban. Cattermole meanwhile, nestles in just behind with seven – alongside the familiar faces of recently banned Gary Caldwell and the currently banned Joey Barton. Talking of Barton, as Tweeted earlier today, he will now miss just one league game for Rangers – this weekend’s trip to his former club Newcastle. Barton will make his return in Gameweek 22, having served the final match of his three-match ban in the FA Cup replay with MK Dons on Tuesday next week.

There’s one last nugget of disciplinary news to round up from the last week. Following an investigation on the grounds of mistaken identity, the yellow card shown to Thomas Vermaelen in the New Years Eve defeat of QPR has now been reassigned to his fellow centre-back, Laurent Koscielny. Unfortunately for Fantasy owners of the Belgian (and luckily for the French fanciers), the FPL Gameweek has long since closed so the erroneous booking will still stand. However, neither are in any immediate danger of accumulating enough yellows for a ban, with Koscielny now on four and Vermaelen on two.

GAMEWEEK 21 BANS

  • Luis Suàrez (LIV) – FA charge (fourth of 8 matches)
  • Vincent Kompany (MCI) – 1 Red for serious foul play (second of 4 matches)
  • Joey Barton (QPR) – 1 Red for serious foul play (second of 3 matches)

If you think Cahill will fix Chelsea's defensive problems I would go Cahill and Sess. I'm not sold on Valencia, but I obviously could be biased...I just think Sunderland has been looking fantastic. I personally have Cahill, Skrtel, and Sess in my team.

      Do you rate Jon Walters?

yeah i do rate Walters.. Have i missed the Sess boat?? can he score well vs Chelsea?? should of had Walters in earlier. his away form is not great. i would like my 4th player to be decent home and away.. mind you Walters scores very well at home.. Not sure Cahill is Chelsea's savior. Would rather have JT, shame he is a card magnet amongst other things lol.

I'll be having McLean, but he'll be my cheap 5th mid alongside 2 big hitters and 2 mid-high price options, but if you can accommodate Sess in there without it giving you worries over who to bench then get him.

    vorm, kenny
    richards, enrique, simpson, brown, kelly
    silva, bale, dempsey, walters, sess
    rvp, aguero, sturridge

thats the only problem I see but figure I will determine it weekly depending on fixtures and Home/away. also if someone is hurt/suspended wont have as much of a problem dealing with it. and I may end up downgrading one of walters or sess in order to upgrade elsewhere later on

thoughts on the team though mate? any suggestions?

Sunderland and Stoke don't rotate, so you'd be playing Walters when they're both at home and Sess when away imo. If you need rotation, go for Sess or Walters and Cabaye, if you want someone to play every week, get Sess, maybe go for a cheap, Moses like 5th mid.

currently have jones in my team (going to wc next week) but not going to take a hit for a united attacking player (transfer was osman to sess) especially considering they have tough fixtures coming up. and spurs have wolves which will should also be profitable as I'm holding on to ade, vdv and bale for that game before I probably wildcard

ManU coverage may hurt you altho they do have some tough fixtures coming up. Kenny rotates the best with Vorm from what I have found but it is QPR. Not sure how nailed on Shotton is atm but if he is then yes I would bring him in instead of Brown.

looks like I may have break my no hits in the 2nd half of the season policy. Have already done Ba - Odemwingie (may he have been premature but he always needed to go this week and I wanted to beat price drops) and with Tiote out, Brown, McAuley, and Sturridge doubtful I may have to take one of them out for a 4 pointer as I really don't want to wc this week.

Why the hell have so many dumped Kompany before the appeal result????
    Makes no sense

    1) He wasnt about to drop in price (was ready to rise)
    2) No urgent rush to buy anyone else as there are no similar defenders about to rise in price.

All those on wildcards should of been buying him , simply to get a price rise out of him , then dump him if appeal is lost.

    --------Vorm (Krul)-------

      GK: good
      Def: good
Mid: Strong with a solid 5th
      For: Good

Missing Dempsey who I think will be needed very soon but he can easily be transferred in for VDV after their home game against Wolves. I hope your team does very well because mine will be right alongside you 🙂

      gk's are good
defense is good but not sure about evans after their next game or two. united have some pretty tough fixtures.
midfield looks good. would prefer nani and dempsey over valencia and vdv but im guessing you cant afford that.
front line looks good. would probably suggest rooney and yak to aguero and ba in a few weeks if that can be afforded
all in all a good team

The thing I dont like about teams like this is that you have to bench someone worth around the 6m mark. Just seems a bit of a waste of money to me. With this you would be benching either Sess or Walters ( or perhaps Studge) every week

Morning lads, any love for my WC draft(gw22)?

    Krul Mignolet
    Enrique Senderos ShawX Simpson Richards
    Dempsey Bale Silva Walters McClean
    RVP Aguero Sturridge

Slightly concerned over Mignolets game-time when Gordon returns, and doubling up on Newcastle defensively. Fully aware of my lack of Utd cover, but not convinced of them atm and their fixtures take a nasty turn after this week.

My personal opinion is that Rooney(Ars/STOKE) will outscore Kun(SPURS/Eve) over gw 22/23.

Mine....depending on how Sturridge goes in gw 21

      Krul/Vorm
      Shotton/Senderos(Kelly)/Simpson/Enrigue/Naylor
      Bale/Walters/Sezzgnon/Silva/Dempsey
      Rvp/Yak/Rooney

Will then do Rooney-->Kun in gw 24-27

Other option is to keep Sturridge and get in Moses for one of Walters/Sezzgnon. I would prefer Having both Walters/Sezzgnon for gw 22 though.

          No.

We all know about the Krul/Vorm rotation. JE will always play. Stoke/ful rotate with New/Swans so it will always be JE + 2 of those, depending who plays home.

Basically I need to decide who to play between Yak/Sezz/Walters.

Between gw 22-27 there will always be 2 from Sun/Black/Stoke playing at home every week, EXCEPT 24.

There rest will play every week.

          I'm happy.

ok, I have a 4 point lead in ML right now, he has Dyer (for 10 points) to come off his bench, I have Tiote and Raylor (for 8) to come off mine. He didn't realise it was DGW so captained RvP and added no players in. So if we say the gap is 2 points, he has Ade and Bale to play, I have Bale (c) BAE, Friedel and Donovan to play. So basically he needs Ade to goal crazy or Everton to go goal crazy, without Donovan involved to beat me. I must be favourite right?

Vorm is ok to keep but his home fixtures are quite bad so unless Swans can start defending on the road I dont think i will find him in my team for the rest of the season. Hart a big waste of money unless you plan to play him every week. If this is the case get the cheapest run on GK.
Wait on news of Kompany's ban first. Easy transfer to Richards if the ban sticks. Whitbread is yuck. Get Kelly for 3.9 if you cant afford anything else. Evans may not be nailed on either so another gamble.
Midfield is awfully week. Frei is a terrible option. Not even sure how u came to him. Might as well be Ferguson.
      Forwards are good.

Frei might be v interesting if Jol gives him more than 15 mins to prove it. But yeah, he was all I had left in the bank. Ditto Whitbread. I'll check out Kelly, thanks for that.

Hart's been nailed on since GW3, so I'd probably take Krul over Vorm.

I'm trying to decide between Rooney and Nani for my w/c. It boils down to:

    A) Rooney + Cabaye (or other sub-6.0 m/f)
    B) Nani + Yakubu/Sturridge

    What do people think?

Rooney and Nani pretty much the same imo. Therefore option B is your best bet purely because of the quality of the 2nd choice. Studge/Yak shits all over any sub 6 mid

I'm having a look how ManU go vs Bolton(I have Nani). I toyed with the Cabaye idea ysterday but 3 NewC scares me! I will wait for Ba to return from the AfroCON.

        Krul Vorm
        Richards Senderos Simpson Kelly Shotton
        Bale Silva Dempsey Cabaye McClean
        RVP Rooney Aguero

Your idea of leaving out Aguero for now is an interesting one - I might consider that. But then if I went for RVP, Rooney and Yak/Studge, who would be my 5th midfielder? VDV? (I wouldn't want Nani.)

Oh, I can afford them, and no I'm not keeping Baines. it's a question of who to slot in there. I definitely want RVP. Thus I can't have all of Rooney, Kun and Yak. Thus it's either RVP, Rooney, Kun + the likes of Cabaye filling out my m/f, or RVP, Kun, Yak with Nani in m/f, or RVP, Rooney, Yak with ? in m/f. It's the fact I can't figure out that '?' that puts me off the last option.
