It didn’t take him long, did it? Ten minutes into his return to the Emirates and Thierry Henry had already made the headlines, notching the only goal in a 1-0 FA Cup Third Round win over Leeds and helping Arsene Wenger to his 300th home win as Arsenal boss…

Back at the North London outfit on a short-term loan deal, the former Gunners skipper is due to stay until the end of February, meaning he will be available for six league games before returning to parent club New York Red Bulls.

As both Marouane Chamakh and Gervinho depart for the African Cup of Nations, Wenger’s forward options have been restricted over the next few weeks, with the final of the tournament taking place on the weekend of gameweek 25. With Arsenal also facing FA Cup and Champions League duties, Henry has already highlighted how integral he could be to their fortunes over the next couple of months.

The Statistics

Arsenal’s all-time record scorer, now with 227 goals, Henry bagged 174 in the league from a total of 254 appearances, also providing 77 assists. Following his move to Barcelona, his first couple of campaigns at the Nou Camp saw him continue to rack up the goals, with 31 in 59 games in addition to 17 assists, though a disappointing third, and final, season saw Henry cut a peripheral figure- with many of his appearances from the subs bench, he netted just 4 times in 21 games.

His first campaign in the MLS was considerably patchy. Henry played 11 times, grabbing only 2 goals for the New York Red Bulls but has returned to goalscoring ways in the season gone by. Over 26 games, the Frenchman scored 14 times and provided 4 assists.

The Prospects

After a dismal start to the campaign, Arsenal sit just a single point off fourth place as the new summer acquisitions click into place. As Wenger chases a Champions League place for the fifteenth successive season, Henry offers plenty Premier League experience in comparison to the likes of Chu Young-Park and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. With Andrei Arshavin afforded two starts since gameweek 5, it’s fair to say the Russian has done little to impress Wenger this term. A front three of Robin Van Persie, flanked by the guile and craft of Henry and the explosive pace of Theo Walcott, makes for an intriguing Arsenal front three.

As mentioned, given that Henry is available until the end of February, the six games he is eligible for are (swa, MUN, bol, BLA, sun, TOT). The first league game Gervinho and Chamakh could be available for –providing their respective national teams are eliminated at the group stages- would be the gameweek 24 match at home to Blackburn. If they progress as far as the final or third-place play-off, though, the pair will both be back for the last of those fixtures, a home clash against Spurs.

Henry has admitted today he lacks fitness, though, and is “nowhere near a 90 minute game“. Regardless, you’d expect he will have some involvement in all six, with that showdown against Harry Redknapp’s side offering the perfect chance to sign off in style. If Monday night is anything to go by, you get the feeling that the script is already written for Henry to make a significant impact before he says his goodbyes for a second time.

If you do I would suggest knocking Ade down to Bellamy. Suarez is out for a while and the little one will surely capitalise. You could then - I hope - change Coker to Ben Arfa. Dem ba ba is away and Arfa scored a stunner for Newcastle in their recent match against Blackburn. He will be their new point of attack whilst Ba is away. After the cup of nation is over you can change back to this team if you wish but bare in mind you do have Bale as Spurs cover and cheaper strikers such as Yakubu/Ba/Sturridge have been on good form this season.

4 hits this season, they've not been very successful.

1st: Ade, Mata and SWP in for Dzeko, Young, O Hara. Success
2nd: VDV and Sturridge in for SWP and Suarez. VDV came in for his Blackburn brace which was nice but I stuck with him rather than getting Bale. Sturridge got me 4 points in 3 weeks before being shifted for Bendy, not so nice.
      3rd: Vermaelen to Jags. Disaster
4th: Jags to Kompany (before he was meant to go up in price Saturday night). Red card the next day.
Probable 5th: Kompany to Richards in the same GW. You can only laugh.

best hit Adam - VdV immediately after Spurs v Liverpool , had him as captain in that Blackburn game, saved my GW

worst - hard to call, but maybe Caulker - Ferdinand. Caulker was injured, but I benched Ferdinand for his only decent haul all season vs Chelsea, so it didn't really work.

Worst/Best hit taken this season, get ready for it: A 32 point hit! Gameweek 7.

      Brown for Walker
      Berra for Gabbidon
      Adam for Larsson
      Mignolet for Ruddy (Kept Vorm)
      Wright Phillips for Dyer
      Mata for Silva
      Ba to Dzeko
      Hernandez to Suraez

Went from an average of 30 odd points per gw to 45-50 odd. Made massive climbs up my mini league too. Honestly do not regret the points hit.

The stage is set for a Drenthe master-class against Spurs as a last pay-off for those of us who stupidly brought him in weeks ago for Evertons run of decent fixtures.

No Felliani, Osman, Rodwell, Cahill, Coleman or Barkley. Moyes actually has no choice but to play the Rolls Royce from the start and with all the Spurs DF injuries I can see a hat-trick coming 😉

I'd go Valencia, Sess and McClean and use the extra money to upgrade elsewhere.

Valencia is in better form than Nani and although Nani will probably score over the rest of the season, it's not worth the money.

Sessegnon is in great form and should be able to match Dempsey's point scoring.

McClean looks like he will score a lot better than Moses.

Milner for Johnson imo. Johnson has a deadly shot. There are so many cheaper strikers than Aguero that can get you decent points. Yak/Bellamy/Sturridge/Ade/even maybe Henry? If possible I'd have a cheaper third striker AND Silva/Mata (Chelsea coverage)/Lampard to give you more viable options in your attack.

Failing that I'd definitely consider Ben Arfa over McClean.

If you can stretch to Walters, him

      if not Etherington, Cabaye

I'd lose Ba from the team as he's not due back till mid-late Feb. Yet Sturridge or Yak instead and just bring Ba in later.

If you opt to go cheaper than 6.5 I might also look at Skrtel rather than Enrique.

            Quote from Arsene:

“They come back in February, usually quite tired, so it is not easy.

“They need to go out two weeks before the tournament starts then it lasts two and a half weeks, then they need two weeks’ recovery. So it is six weeks.”

              Interesting...

Yet it comes from Arsene Wenger, a man who talks a lot of cack. Think Ba is too valuable to NUFC to rest, but i guess we'll know more soon.

I'm more apt to believe a Wenger, as he's had players that have come back yearly from the tournament. And he does tend to be a realist in readiness estimates.

      I hope so.

Maybe not Newc game as he is without Barton and Faurlin now for that game, but hopefully against Wigan he will have some new players and have had more time to know who he's going to use and where he'll play them.

I think SWP could flourish now.

Warnock was inept tactically at this level. Hughes is not. That alone is a big difference.

Team B for me but I'd swap Rooney for Agbonlahor and use the money to upgrade Clichy and Kelly to Kompany and Hangeland (or Verm and Jones who are in your first team)
Can see Rooney having a great 5/6 weeks with those fixtures after the Bolton game but Fulhams and Villas are really good
You'd still have about 1.5 left over then too which is good wiggle room for injuries suspensions etc.

He's a constant rotation risk. Play it safe with Smalling.

Something about him missing training... but we'll know more if he's in the squad tomorrow.

(I mean if you don't play him at home to Bolton, when will you play him?)

Not that he's guaranteed to start anyway. Far from it...

Who are your other Defenders is the big question?

Surely there is a better candidate in DF to sit on the bench than Evans at home to Bolton

Is Dempsey playing out of position? Wondering if he is worth the extra cash vs. Sessegnon. Also, is Sess playing behind the striker? Thx

They're both offering the same goal threat really and are scoring pretty much identically. I think Sessegnon is equal to Dempsey at the moment, so I'm saving a couple of million and sticking with The Sess.

just came up with an AWESOME WC team which could actually reel the points in

    _____________Cech________________

    Baines__Smalling__Senderos___Simpson

    Gerrard__Lampard__Nani__Silva__VDV

    ____________Sturridge______________

    Subs:

    Ruddy__Morrison__Graham__Caulker

    Team Value: 106.2

Well it's different, and you'd probably do ok with it but there are much better alternatives to Gerrard and Lampard. VdV and Nani also aren't worth their price tags at the moment. Cech is being outscored by far cheaper keepers... I could go on... but I doubt you are even considering playing this team. 🙂
