David Silva’s ankle problem isn’t as bad as first feared. Thierry Henry undergoes extra fitness sessions as he pushes for a start against Swansea, Scott Parker could return for Spurs, while Darron Gibson joins Everton from Man United:

Owners of David Silva will be relieved to hear that the diminutive Spaniard is due to resume training tomorrow and could be ready to face Wigan. The Monday evening kick-off could serve as a blessing, affording Silva a couple of extra days to recover from the ankle injury which kept him out of the mid-week cup defeat to Liverpool. Silva saw a specialist on Wednesday and the injury will be assessed today once the swelling has gone down. Assistant manager David Platt, who also admitted Mario Balotelli is a doubt for the Latics showdown, said:

David did a bit of running yesterday and will do a bit more today. Hopefully he will be back on the training pitch tomorrow.

Harry Redknapp is hopeful that Scott Parker will recover from a knee problem in time for tomorrow’s game with Wolves. Parker hasn’t featured for Spurs since limping off in the New Year’s Eve draw at Swansea. Redknapp conceded Ledley King isn’t yet ready to return from a hamstring problem, while Sandro and William Gallas remain sidelined, due to calf tears.

Arsene Wenger has revealed Thierry Henry is undertaking extra training sessions to build up his fitness ahead of the weekend’s trip to Swansea. Henry came on as a second half sub in last Monday’s FA Cup clash with Leeds and has admitted he is short of playing the full ninety minutes. Wenger, speaking to Arsenal Player earlier, said:

Thierry wants to help out so he makes extra sessions to try and get back to his full fitness. He is not there yet but he is not far from the level he was at when he left here [in 2007]. He is fit enough to start a game but not fit enough to last or play the whole thing. Those are the decisions I always have to make considering the balance of the team. Does he sometimes start? Does he sometimes come on? That’s what I have to decide. He is in the squad for Sunday.

Wenger also admitted he intends to utilise the talents of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain more often over the new few weeks. The youngster has featured just once for the Gunners in the league so far, coming on as a second half sub in the 8-2 defeat at Old Trafford back in gameweek 3, but played in the FA Cup game with Leeds, with his manager admitting:

He is very close now and he will be used in the next six months for sure. He is working on his defensive side, his urgency and his committed level as well. When you are a young, talented player you have to experience that talent is good, but that commitment at the top level is highly needed too. I am very happy with him. I am confident that in the next few weeks he will play.

Alan Pardew has praised unsung defensive duo Mike Williamson and Davide Santon for their recent contributions to the Newcastle back-four. While Pardew’s plaudits will perhaps increase Fantasy interest in Santon, in particular, they may be a little unnerving for owners of Ryan Taylor. Taylor, who has been playing much of the season at left-back, looks like he could be ousted from that position by the Italian under-21s captain. Pardew said of Santon:

He can play both sides and he gives us a massive weaponry. But at the moment, left-back, he looks like he has probably got the nod.

Everton have confirmed the signing of Darron Gibson from Manchester United in a four and a half year deal. The Irishman will be available for immediate selection, meaning he could make his debut on Saturday at Villa Park. Gibson will be a welcome addition to David Moyes’ midfield, and with injuries to Leon Osman and Jack Rodwell, could go straight into the side. Gibson has featured just once for United this season, providing an assist in their win over Wigan.

There has been some welcome injury news for Blackburn boss Steve Kean, with Paul Robinson and Junior Hoilett both in contention to play against Fulham tomorrow. The duo have missed a fair amount of time over the last few weeks and their potential return would be a massive boost to Rovers’ survival hopes. Meanwhile, Scott Dann is still around a week away from a return and Martin Olsson has trained successfully and is also in contention to start against the Cottagers.

Chelsea’s Gael Kakuta has joined French side Dijon on loan for the rest of the season. In the hope that he’d do a Daniel Sturridge, Chelsea farmed Kakuta out to Bolton for the first half of the campaign, but the youngster was afforded just 72 minutes game time by Owen Coyle.

I think Vorm/Krul could be the best pairing.

Both are teams who are capable of CS at home and sometimes away when compared to other teams with cheaper, NAILED ON, keepers.

Couldn't decide between Silva (who I bought at 9.5) Gerrard and Nani so I've worked them all in

    Who to captain though?

    Krul/Vorm
    Simpson/Evans/Senderos/Kelly/Naylor
    Silva/Gerrard/Nani/Walters/Moses
    RVP/Rooney/Sturridge

Plan to transfer Rooney to Aquero next week

Why do I always get tempted/scared by Rooney? I've had my RVP/Aguero/Yak forward line figured out for ages for my w/c, and now everyone's talking about Rooney destroying Bolton, and I'm tempted by him again. I brought him in for Blackburn, ripping the heart (Silva) out of my team to do it, and was burnt. Not sure.

someone must have some thoughts on this

ok folks was just pondering if it was possible to have a team with attacking coverage from all the big 6 (United, City, Chelsea, Arsenal, Spurs, Liverpool) I came up with this

    Sorensen, Schwarzer

    Evans, Richards, Senderos, BAE, Santon

    McLean, Bale, Gerrard, Silva. Dempsey

    Welbeck, RvP, Sturridge

Would have loved Mata and Aguero instead of Silva and Sturridge, but unless I go for Barfa over Dempsey it’s not possible, and obviously it would be determined by whether Rooney and Welbeck is Fergie’s first choice strike partnership. But in general, what do people think?

When Ba gets back I will either remove Welbeck or Sturridge and put Valencia in (if needed) for Gerrard/Silva)

And even IF Welbeck plays, will he score more than Yak?

sorry was eating, missed my opportunity. Like I said atm it's not my actual wc team, I was just messing around to see if I could make a team that includes attacking coverage fro all the top 6 (thus having Yak or anyone else kinda defeats the object. and Doos that team looks good, but it's unaffordable for me.

No it would be Simpson RB (if confirmed fit), Santon LB with Captain Colo and Williamson CB.

Now apparently we're back bidding for Cissokho a LB, so IF we do sign a LB that would suggest Santon moving to RB and Simpson being out on his arse. Lot of ifs though, so Simpson safe for the moment. Do bear in mind he does have a shoulder injury so is a doubt (but not confirmed out) for this GW

Thanks to some great help from posters here, I'm getting towards my final WC draft.

I've activated it, so need to have it finished by tomorrow's deadline.

    Vorm, Stockdale/Schwarzer
    Richards, Skrtel, BAE, Evans, Santon
Silva, Bale, Dempsey, Sessegnon, Ben Arfa,
    RVP, Sturridge, Yakubu

2.2 in bank (to get Ba back in after ACON)

Am I good to go? Are there any obvious flaws? Thanks!

      Looks solid.

You have got a great squad there so I wouldn't advise changing it much more. Usually any tinkering from this point on will just lead to regrets.

Worth checking out what team you are going to field now for the next 5 or 6 weeks to check rotations are in check.

Don't be so 'final' about your wc teams fokes.. All it takes is a goal or two for the tides to turn.. Getting a feeling Ade is being dropped from everyone's team fast... Because he isn't some obscure 'punt', it won't take much for the masses to turn.. No?

Aguero was reasonably poor against Liverpool, but that's the Carling Cup, with no Silva...against one of the top defenses in the league, before that he was still immense and has good fixtures coming up..
Adebayor was crap vs Everton who were without a fair chunk of their defense.

To describe him in those terms is to pt it gently inaccurate. Spurs would be nowhere withot him, his workrate is exceptional, for a player who doesn't get rotated.

His running of the ball, taking defenders out of position etc is crucial to provide space for others, he was no way as poor in those games, as people on here describe.

    Sorenson / Schwarzer

    Richards, Shotten, Senderos, Williamson, Enrique

    Bale, Dempsey, Silva, Walters, Sessegnon

    Aguero, Adebayor, Sturridge

Is it worth bringing Schwarzer with in with his injury? He's due back soon and rotates well with Sorenson.

Walters is in because of the rotation with Dempsey.

My concern is Silva (injured) and lack of Arsenal / Utd coverage.

Any thoughts? (plan is to bring in Yaya Toure and Ba once returned from the ACN).

What's opinions on start Drenthe, bench Walters, Shotton (Jagielka obviously unused third sub).

My reasoning is likely 2 points away at Anfield for the others.

Drenthe's main problem is not playing, so worst case scenario he comes on and get a 1pointer (0 if he gets booked), but potentially if he starts more likelihood of points that from the others?

    Leaves a team of

    Krul
    Shawx, Jones, Ekotto
    Nani (C), Bale, Sess, Drenthe
    RVP, Adebayor, Sturridge

Don't think it'll be great gameweek in fairness, but I've thought that opposite quite a few times recently which haven't worked out, so you never know.

Drenthe's gone long term, he's just playing out his days.

Not taking a hit to get rid, plus Jagielka being crocked means he's next weeks priority, unless I WC.

Would like to hold off on WC though as much as next weeks fixtures are terrible for my team, the following week looks good.

Playing my WC this week and need some advice:
Want Rooney, Valencia and BAE this week.
But in the long run want Aguero, Silva and Kompany.

Could do Valencia -> Silva next week,
    Then BAE -> Kompany
and take a hit somewhere along the line for Rooney -> Aguero.

Or could change now BAE to Richards to avoid the hit soon.

    Any advice?
