There was plenty logic behind the move to draft in Yakubu this week. Having been rested for the FA Cup defeat at Newcastle, the Nigerian looked primed to play a significant part in the gameweek as Blackburn went looking for a win that would take them off the bottom of the table.

The first week of the winter wildcard bore fruit to that idea. Yakubu rose by 0.3, up to 6.1 in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) pricings, as over 220,000 Fantasy managers clambered to get a piece of the action ahead of the Fulham showdown.

It seemed a sensible acquisition. Yakubu had been instrumental in Rovers’ 3 wins so far this season, grabbing braces against Arsenal and Man United, in addition to a 4 goal haul at home to Swansea. If Steve Kean’s side were to grab all three points, you’d have thought he would surely play a part.

A red card within twenty-two minutes quickly put an end to those best-laid plans. Dismissed for a reckless, studs-up challenge on Danny Murphy, Yakubu ended the gameweek on the princely score of -2 and is now set for an enforced leave of absence. He begins a three-match that puts him out of the picture until the gameweek 25 home clash with QPR and leaves Kean facing (eve, NEW, ars) with a strike force that have scored 6 goals between them all season.

With Demba Ba off on international duties and Emmanuel Adebayor unavailable for Spurs’ game against his parent club Man City, Fantasy forward lines look set for a significant shake-up over the upcoming couple of gameweeks. The irony here is that Yakubu was the main beneficiary from Ba’s trip to the African Cup of Nations- with Nigeria having failed to qualify, he offered an in-form cut-price option as a replacement for the Newcastle man.

This afternoon’s moment of folly, though, means the chance afforded was no more than a fleeting one, as schedules are once again scanned and budgets readjusted to accommodate further alternatives.

agreed, Nani's greater potential for a big haul has saved him in many a team, but Valencia seems the more likely to deliver atm

Nani and Dempsey two guys with big price tags that cause many a dilemma for FF folks.

haha well i do need them bigtime but that's by the by

Honestly, I really can't believe anyone who says Wellbeck touched that. You really ought to go to Specsavers. The second one, Rooney *May* have got a minimal final touch, though probs not. If given benefit of the doubt, it'll stand...

Sorry Rambo, you do just sound desparate. I am completely neutral on this, as nobody important has Rooney in my mini-league. You can clearly see the deflection from Welbeck, and you can clearly see the Wheater kicks the ball and not Rooney. No assist says me watching MoTD in HD.

watch the angle from rooneys perspective, totally pulls his foot out the way before the ball even gets there, does look like it might bobble slightly though, but certainly not from welbeck

"Assists are awarded to the player from the goal scoring team, who makes the last touch before the goal is scored.

If after this touch, an opposing player touches the ball outside the penalty area altering the intended destination of the ball, then no assist is given, except if this intervention directly results in an own goal."

1st one Welbeck got the last touch so the assist should be credited to him.
2nd one The last touch before the goal came from the Bolton defender outside of the box so no assist should be given.

I think Rooney gets a touch also. I think it would be harsh taking off him, very difficult to tell, whereas Welbeck got a clear touch.

Maybe we should continue to discuss this right through the night.

For me, it's all a bit like the VDV goal against Swansea .. people on here desperate for points to be taken away from players that rivals have.

I can't see how it can possibly be 100% either way whether Welbeck touched the first one or not. We've all seen it 10 times and nobody knows.

For the second one, it's more likely to be changed I reckon.

I wouldn't mind Rooney getting an assist or two, thinking of getting him in my W/C team and haven't checked my H2H opponents.

If it was Evans who got the goals then perhaps, but I have no bias towards or against Rooney. 😛

It was a clear sending off.

Not a Yakubu owner, more of a sympathiser.

That was a high foot challenge, no where NEAR the ball! Dangerous one IMO.

At least now people will contemplate getting in Morison 😛

If one or both of rooneys assists are removed, when will this take place? Tomrw or Monday?

Sorry to change the subject from Rooney's assist but:

Nani and Sessegnon or Valencia and Dempsey?

Sounds like perhaps the latter? (Won't be for a couple of weeks yet so Fulham vs NEW and WBA doesn't have any influence)

I may get Nani and Dempsey, but I have grown frustrated with the Portuguese annoyance, Valencia and Dempsey or Valencia and Sess for me.

almost 4.5k just today, suppose you're right tho seeing Fletcher scored and more likely to attract a bandwagon
