Gary Cahill’s finally completes his move to Chelsea. Fernando Torres takes up extra shooting training to help end his goal drought. Hatem Ben Arfa reiterates his frustration at a lack of game time, while Steve Kean is adamant Chris Samba is going nowehere:

Chelsea have this afternoon confirmed the transfer of Gary Cahill from Bolton for an undisclosed fee. Coming in at 5.2 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL), Cahill certainly offers a cheap route into Andre Villas-Boas’ back-four and looks likely to place a big question mark against the future game time of David Luiz in the heart of the Blues back-four. The Blues have hardly been kind for clean sheet returns though; last weekend’s 1-0 win over Sunderland was their first in seven games and only the second they have managed at the Bridge all season.

Chelsea coach Steve Holland has revealed Fernando Torres is taking extra training sessions in order to end his scoring drought. The Blues’ record signing has failed to find the net since gameweek 6 and has scored just twice this season. Torres picked up an assist in the 1-0 win over Sunderland, with Frank Lampard slotting home after the Spaniard’s effort had hit the bar and looked busy throughout. Holland went on to say:

His finishing is looking very good in training, the ball is flying in. I have personally spent some time with him on making sure [he’s in the right position]. Sometimes when you’re trying hard to score, you end up in areas where you’re less likely to score. It’s not a bad crime, it’s only because he’s so determined.

Newcastle boss Alan Pardew assured reporters after yesterday’s game against QPR that the injury to star midfield player Yohan Cabaye is not as bad as first feared. Cabaye left the field mid-way through the first half after being on the receiving end of a challenge from Shaun Derry and was immediately sent to the club doctor. Initial check-ups, however, showed no serious damage, with Pardew saying:

He [Cabaye] felt it [the challenge] was probably a little bit over-exuberant, but the doc thinks he is going to be okay.

Hatem Ben Arfa has once again voiced his displeasure at not being included in Newcastle’s starting XI. Ben Arfa was expected to have earned himself a starting role after his wonder goal in the FA Cup against Blackburn last weekend but once again saw himself line-up on the bench, with only the injury to Cabaye affording him sixty-six minutes game time. The Frenchman admitted:

I am frustrated at not being able to play, but I won’t go and start an argument with the coach about it, because I know that I will only lose. I will respect his authority and keep my philosophy whether I play or not. For me football is a game based on lots of movements and passes. The coach likes the long, direct game. He often says, “cross it in the box” but I completely respect that philosophy. I am ready both physically and mentally. I will not start any arguments, my time will come and I just have to be patient.

Sunderland defender Matt Kilgallon will have a scan in the next few days to determine the extent of the ankle injury he picked up against Chelsea. Kilgallon has enjoyed a mini renaissance at the Stadium of Light, starting the club’s last three league games, but could now face a spell on the sidelines. With Wes Brown a doubt with a groin problem and Titus Bramble currently unavailable due to an Achilles injury, Michael Turner looks set to step into the first-team fold. Turner replaced Kilgallon at Stamford Bridge on Saturday and with home games against Swansea and Norwich up next, could be a decent cut-price option at just 4.2.

Steve Kean is adamant that Chris Samba is not for sale, despite reports linking the centre-half with a move away from Ewood Park. The Blackburn skipper missed the FA Cup defeat at Newcastle and last week’s home win over Fulham due to illness, but his manager is hopeful Samba will be available this weekend for the trip to Everton. Reports also suggest Rovers have rejected interest in Steven N’Zonzi from a host of Premier League clubs.

basically they can't see any conclusive evidence of a touch by Welbeck for the first assist.
for the second assist they acknowledge that wheater makes the tackle, plays the ball, but plays the ball via rooney into welbeck's path.
i can't see this rooney touch after wheater plays the ball but i trust that they can. for them to rule out taking the first assist off rooney you'd think they've seen conclusive evidence of the ball hitting rooney's leg/foot on its way to welbeck.
it's a lucky assist the 2nd but it's a valid one if this rooney touch exists. from a moral (sounds a bit of a lame *cough* gay *cough* word but i can't think of a more butch one so i'll just distract you with manly words at the end of this comment) viewpoint you can argue rooney's input forced the ball to go to welbeck and therefore made the goal, regardless of if he meant it or not.

Hey TM in the millionaire league.. are those hits and rank considered per gameweek or overall ???

And about the 20% league... Do i have to keep getting 20% or more than average even after qualifying for these 3 weeks.. ??

As it stands i qualify for both..

I need your link to know if you still qualify. Mill Club is all gameweek related. I just use your history page for that. 20% League = 20% on top of the average to continue even after the 3 qual. rounds.

      Check the FPL scout review..

      Talking points

We start, as always, by clearing up any contentious points awards in the Gameweek. The two major talking points both occurred at Old Trafford and centred on Wayne Rooney’s involvement in Manchester United’s first two goals. After further review, Rooney’s assists for both goals will stand. The Press Association did not see any definite touch from Danny Welbeck on Rooney’s pass before Paul Scholes slotted home the opener. For the second goal, Rooney was deemed to have touched the ball after Bolton Wanderers’ David Wheater, before Welbeck ran free to slot home.

    RE: Rooney Assistgate

    1. Do we know what evidence was used in determining the decision? If not, then we should shut our talk holes until we find out.
    2. Assuming that the same kind of evidence was used in Rooney's case as in the previous cases (Aguero, Gervinho,?) and assuming that the evidence was equally inconclusive in both cases, why assume that the first set of decisions was better than the Rooney decision? Consistency is a virtue in judgment only if the initial judgment was itself the right one. Regarding the first assist, it's perfectly reasonable to give the assist to the initial passer if any intervening touches are inconclusive.
    3. I didn't see the second assist - can someone describe it for me?

        Thanks for the link.

Here's the thing, where you see Welbeck redirecting the ball every so slightly to the left, I see Rooney kicking the ball with his right foot thereby putting some left-handed english on it. The ball bounces a foot in front of Welbeck and spins to the left in front of Welbeck's foot ever so slightly. Now, I'm pretty sure that I'm not crazy and I assume that you're not crazy and yet we have different perceptions of the same event. I'd say that qualifies as inconclusive.

for 3 this happened: http://i959.photobucket.com/albums/ae77/djwatford/roonwheat.png the ball then goes to the left, past knight and to welbeck. so the wheater touch is never in doubt but fpl have ruled that rooney deflects this wheater intervention to welbeck. if so then it being in or outside the area doesn't matter rooney got the last touch before the goalscorer and therefore deserved the assist

not keen on two from chelsea attack and none from utd, would probably drop mata for nani/valencia. think you can do better for 4th and 5th defender, otherwise sound, prepare to start krul every week.

my first and hopefully only attempt at feedback on the "big 3" version of my WC draft: starting to see potential here:

    Sorensen, Lindegaard

    Richards, Enrique, Santon, Caulker, Kelly

    Silva, Bale, Walters, Sessegnon, Surman

    RVP, Rooney, Aguero

can use santon/caulker as 3rd defender with their good rotation. can drop enrique for the likes of cahill, huth or shawcross as the fixtures/performance dictate. Feasible? Or too off-balanced?

gervinho got the assist because he touched it last
rooney got the assist for scholes because welbeck did not touch the ball
rooney got the assist for welbeck because wheater knocked the ball onto rooney, therefore he got the last touch

it's that simple ... read the rules and stop bleating

I'm not sure your convictions would be so strong if you didn't own him.

Do you have him in your team by any chance? Is it even possible you have the armband on him?

Hmmm Hmmmm. Me and my wife were talking the other day and we both agreed that Colin Farrell is not a very good actor, hmmm, yes, now why would we both say that Colin. Why?

i think you fluked your way to the right outcome for the latter point this may not be the case, you'll know if it is.
haven't seen anyone post evidence of this rooney touch, main theories i've heard are rooney passed to welbeck/wheater never touched it, or wheater didn't alter the direction of the ball significantly
