Gary Cahill’s finally completes his move to Chelsea. Fernando Torres takes up extra shooting training to help end his goal drought. Hatem Ben Arfa reiterates his frustration at a lack of game time, while Steve Kean is adamant Chris Samba is going nowehere:

Chelsea have this afternoon confirmed the transfer of Gary Cahill from Bolton for an undisclosed fee. Coming in at 5.2 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL), Cahill certainly offers a cheap route into Andre Villas-Boas’ back-four and looks likely to place a big question mark against the future game time of David Luiz in the heart of the Blues back-four. The Blues have hardly been kind for clean sheet returns though; last weekend’s 1-0 win over Sunderland was their first in seven games and only the second they have managed at the Bridge all season.

Chelsea coach Steve Holland has revealed Fernando Torres is taking extra training sessions in order to end his scoring drought. The Blues’ record signing has failed to find the net since gameweek 6 and has scored just twice this season. Torres picked up an assist in the 1-0 win over Sunderland, with Frank Lampard slotting home after the Spaniard’s effort had hit the bar and looked busy throughout. Holland went on to say:

His finishing is looking very good in training, the ball is flying in. I have personally spent some time with him on making sure [he’s in the right position]. Sometimes when you’re trying hard to score, you end up in areas where you’re less likely to score. It’s not a bad crime, it’s only because he’s so determined.

Newcastle boss Alan Pardew assured reporters after yesterday’s game against QPR that the injury to star midfield player Yohan Cabaye is not as bad as first feared. Cabaye left the field mid-way through the first half after being on the receiving end of a challenge from Shaun Derry and was immediately sent to the club doctor. Initial check-ups, however, showed no serious damage, with Pardew saying:

He [Cabaye] felt it [the challenge] was probably a little bit over-exuberant, but the doc thinks he is going to be okay.

Hatem Ben Arfa has once again voiced his displeasure at not being included in Newcastle’s starting XI. Ben Arfa was expected to have earned himself a starting role after his wonder goal in the FA Cup against Blackburn last weekend but once again saw himself line-up on the bench, with only the injury to Cabaye affording him sixty-six minutes game time. The Frenchman admitted:

I am frustrated at not being able to play, but I won’t go and start an argument with the coach about it, because I know that I will only lose. I will respect his authority and keep my philosophy whether I play or not. For me football is a game based on lots of movements and passes. The coach likes the long, direct game. He often says, “cross it in the box” but I completely respect that philosophy. I am ready both physically and mentally. I will not start any arguments, my time will come and I just have to be patient.

Sunderland defender Matt Kilgallon will have a scan in the next few days to determine the extent of the ankle injury he picked up against Chelsea. Kilgallon has enjoyed a mini renaissance at the Stadium of Light, starting the club’s last three league games, but could now face a spell on the sidelines. With Wes Brown a doubt with a groin problem and Titus Bramble currently unavailable due to an Achilles injury, Michael Turner looks set to step into the first-team fold. Turner replaced Kilgallon at Stamford Bridge on Saturday and with home games against Swansea and Norwich up next, could be a decent cut-price option at just 4.2.

Steve Kean is adamant that Chris Samba is not for sale, despite reports linking the centre-half with a move away from Ewood Park. The Blackburn skipper missed the FA Cup defeat at Newcastle and last week’s home win over Fulham due to illness, but his manager is hopeful Samba will be available this weekend for the trip to Everton. Reports also suggest Rovers have rejected interest in Steven N’Zonzi from a host of Premier League clubs.

Tell me you're taking the mick?

I had the pig captained and even I think Welbeck should've got the first assist. A penalty miss to add to that and you're lucky to even consider of getting a single bp.

Couple of killer passes from the pig though. After watching the game I thought he had a much better game than people made out.

It was a great penalty save from Bogdan and the ball crossed by Valencia which people have said he should have converted was fizzed across and he did well to get a touch on it.

        His hair looked sh*t though

I think he should have a statue of him made out of human hair erected outside the houses of parliament to mark the memory of his two assists standing.

If he wants bonus points he should probably learn how to score a penalty.

The 'Jonathan Walters vs Clint Dempsey' WC debate...

So I've got myself into a bit of a conundrum regarding these 2 for my WC. I'd originally planned on Dempsey, and was extremely set on him. A look at Stoke's home fixtures, however, and Walters' appeal is greatly enhanced. Not saying Dempsey's fixtures aren't good, but I'm slowly thinking that Walters and a cut-price mid (probably Dyer) to rotate with is the way to go.

Don't get me wrong, I can totally see Dempsey's appeal, and he is 'tried and tested'. I just think that Walters, at almost 2.0m less, offers potentially equal rewards in the games I plan to play him in.

I think both are great options but if you have to choose one then Walters is a good shout. He can be rotated and is consistent at home. Relies on pens mainly though, as his shot quantity stats aren't great.

      Fulham are wildly inconsistent too.

I thought he was very unlucky to be honest. Had a great shot parried onto the bar and then he set Cox up but was again denied by Ruddy.

WBA look a bit inept in midfield right now but Long looked lively (again) when he came on. The boy has all the right attributes and wouldn't surprise me if someone took a punt on him in summer.

I wouldn't touch the Arsenal defence with a bargepole. Only if Vermaelen was there I'd consider. They're too attacking for their own good and were found out by Swansea y'day who attacked them with pace (something which neither Koscielny or Mertesacker have)

The decision on the first Rooney assist makes sense - we don't know if Welbeck touched it or not so it should stay with Rooney who made the goal anyway. It's only annoying in the light of RVP/Gervinho which was virtually identical.

Oh well time for Man City to make me suffer for ditching Silva.

    FPL - GOLDEN MOMENTS 2011/201
    1. Rooney v Bolton - Welbeck clearly touches ball. No Assist for Welbeck
2 Rooney v Bolton. - Debatable -Rooney does not clearly touch the ball after bolton defenders. Assist for Rooney
    3. Aguero v Arsenal - Debatable - Touch of ball before Silva. No assist awarded
4 Gervinho v W. Brom - defender actually touches ball but gervinho awarded assist. No assist for RVP

          Agree about Wellbeck's touch.

TBH i'd usually say swings and roundabouts but in this case my rival has Rooney captained. Fair enough, i dont want to lose anyone point. Except he hasn't had RVP all season - I did when he cut back for a... Vermaelen goal i think it was, but it took a slight touch of Walcott or Gervinho on the way, exact same as Wellbeck's and he lost that assist.
So basically i lose 6 points with RVP, rival gains 6 with Rooney. If they even made consistently bad decisions i wouldnt mind, but it's a bit of a lottery at the moment.

No that would be the job of non Nani owners. I fight my own fights. By the way i did not own Aguero when he should have got that assist. Their decisions are not consistent. If you had 1 grand on the outcome of your mini-league you would be pissed too.

Fair dos. "It always matters more when there's money on it!"

I had Rooney captain and was definitely expecting him to lose the first assist and possibly the second one. However, seems like the higher echelons of the committee seem to have him in their team!

    Edited re-post*

Thoughts on this WC team pls?

    Soronsen Lindegaard
    Richards Skrtel Shawcross Simpson Senderos
    Silva Bale Walters Sess Siggy
    Aguero Rvp Fletcher

    1.0 in bank

Having no swansea defenders stupid? No attacking United coverage? No Chelsea coverage?
    Thoughts appreciated 🙂

Nice punt on Siggy but why not Dyer or Sinclair instead? Sinclair is on penalties and Dyer is in form right now.

Vorm - Krul (Had both from the start and love them like brothers)

    RTaylor - Caulker - AFerdinand - Kelly - Evans

    Bale - Dempsey - McClean - Walters - Valencia

    Aguero - RVP - Rooney

Dempsey is someone I'm considering ditching, feel that cheap defence is bringing in good points this season, but worried about lack of Chelsea coverage. What do people reckon?

Mata if you want Chelsea coverage, but you would have to get funds by downgrading elsewhere.
      Cahill if move is confirmed

Had Mata for a long time and I've found him quite frustrating. Keep eyeing up fat frank, how does he stay so irrestible...

Should say that I've got 1m left over on this team so could go Mata for Dempsey without downgrading elsewhere.

Possible wildcard, but still lots to consider:

    Vorm - Krul
    R.Taylor - Evans - S.Kelly- Enrique - Simpson
    Walters - Mata - Bale - McClean - Dempsey
Van Persie - Sturridge - Aguero

I will have 0.5m left at current prices.
Sturridge injuries/not starting last two weeks is a worry. Fletcher a possibility.
Also waiting on word to see if Silva is fit.
    Cahill is now a possibility.

Krul, Simpson and Taylor puts a lot on Newc clean sheet each week. Swansea defenders worth a look at.

Good point, but Newcastle have good fixtures and represent good value, also Simpson and Krul will be rotated alot. Swansea's cleansheets mainly come from home and in the next few gameweeks they are mainly playing away and have also a few tough home fixtures.

My current WC team. Come-on, let's 'ave it!

    Krul Mignolet
    Senderos Cahill Richards ShawX Enrique
    Silva Valencia Bale Dempsey McClean
    RVP Aguero Fletcher

Will upgrade fletcher to Ba when he returns. Any other thoughts?

yeah was thinking between shawX and cahill for one spot, see youve squeezed them both in, after fulham performance, maybe a better cheaper 5th defender. fletcher isnt bad but id rather have sturridge if you can cut some funds from elsewhere.

    nani vs valencia

as a current nani owner and on wc, looking at valencia as only united attacking coverage. the 2.3 million difference would massively improve my defence. at the moment, nani is averaging 1.1 ppg more than valencia. i would expect that gap to widen a little by the end of the season, but still no more than a 2 ppg difference surely. so cant those 2 points on an average weekly basis be made up when put into defence?

with the other 7 attacking players staying the same, nani would currently give me a WC defense of:

    Richards/Enrique/Brown or Evans/Santon/Kelly or Caulker

whereas with valencia it could be:

    Richards/Enrique/Raylor/Cahill/Brown or Evans

Very close, i guess it boils down to Nani, Santon and Caulker vs Valencia, Raylor and Cahill? I would go for the latter - prefer Valencia to Nani and Cahill to Caulker (Swansea fixtures pretty tough). Depends on the rest of your team.

Hi guys, should i make any transfers? help please!

    Vorm (Lindegaard)
    Smalling, Richards, Shotton (Williamson, Caulker)
    Nani, Silva, Bale, Dempsey (McClean)
    RVP, Aguero, Sturridge

    A) No
    B) Cahill in for Smalling (and next week, Valencia and Evans/Smalling in for Nani/Caulker (want 3 MUN players for Stoke match))
    C) Valencia in for Nani (and Cahill in for Caulker the following week)

    Currently on A? i guess...

    cheers!
