The race to be the first player to climb onto the second suspension tightrope of the season is slowly starting to near conclusion, with the traditional bad boys queuing up to make the transition into balancing mode.

Readers of these pages will have seen regular mention of Blackburn’s Jason Lowe and the Chelsea captain John Terry as the recent front runners, both with eight yellow cards to their names from previous indiscretions. Last week they were joined by perennial offender and Sunderland leader Lee Cattermole and, not to be outdone – Joey Barton celebrated his return to the QPR side after suspension with his eighth yellow card in the win over bottom of the table Wigan. All four of those familiar names therefore now sit two yellow cards away from a two-match ban.

Hot on their heels with seven yellow cards though (and perhaps feeling the pressure) are Wigan’s Gary Caldwell, who despite conceding the second QPR penalty today for a foul on Heidar Helguson escaped further sanction, and Wolves’ enforcer Karl Henry, who certainly didn’t escape punishment for the back-heel he aimed at the prone Marc Albrighton’s midriff. Henry’s straight red card will see him miss the next 3 games for Wolves (LIV, qpr, WBA), and coupled with the injury to his midfield colleague Emmanuel Frimpong (on loan from Arsenal), could leave the black country club short of both of their first choice pair – the imminent return of Jamie O’Hara can’t come soon enough for Wolves. Everton’s robust Belgian, Marouane Fellaini is the final player with seven bookings, while a host of players complete the Tightrope widget with 6 yellow cards.

GAMEWEEK 23 BANS

  • Yakubu(BLA) – 1 Red for serious foul play (second of 3 matches)
  • Luis Suàrez (LIV) – FA charge (last of 8 matches)
  • Karl Henry (WOL) – 1 Red for serious foul play (first of 3 matches)

thought he was a little unlucky today - he'd just made a great save before he was slightly out of position and wrong footed by a late swerve from Morrison's shot then he was totally unsighted for the fee kick at the end. I doubt he'll be dropped on the strength of that.

I also thought he was unlucky. Sometimes the ball moves in a completely unexpected way and makes keepers look like idiots. The first goal was a bit like that and the second was a nightmare to read the way it came through a load of players.

You'll find it very hard to bench Keane, just look at his fixtures - and his start at Villa park.
Bring him in, but expect selection dilemmas with your subs!!

With apologies for repost! Lost at foot of last page. Need quick views as wife thinks I'm up watching porn! Actually she'd probably prefer that to me spending all this time considering a fantasy football team!

Just got rid of Gerrard to Dempsey after 2 weeks of post WC disappointment! Any views on how to use extra 2.2 to strengthen elsewhere? Current team for next week is:

    Lindegard (Vorm)
    Enrique Senderos Clark (Simpson McAuley)
    Sess Demsey Silva Bale (HBA)
    RVP Zamora Aguero

Thinking maybe investing in City defence, perhaps Enrique (5.5) to Kompany/Richards which leave spare cash for Ba post ACON. Alternative is to sit tight and see how FA plays out re injuries and maybe keep the additional FT?

Any words of advice gratefully received!

I'd sit tight, see how the FA goes - as you say.

If nothing happens, I'd consider strengthening the defense, as you say, with Kompany. Lotta time for you, no sense rushing to use up the FT.

well Liverpool's fixtures get very dodgy after next week (and I think Wolves will score) so losing defensive coverage for them for 6 weeks or so isn't a bad idea. I've been leaning towards Richards, but today switched to Bad K simply for nailed-onness. I wouldn't worry about Ba just yet, maximise your points now then use 2 FTs to get Ba back. I would however, keep the money for a week or so to asses HBA's situation, then you can maybe upgrade him.

I think you gotta have Silva every week. VDV for him would be my priority. I'd say choosing between Rooney and Aguero for your second striker spot would be wise, as well.

Great team overall, though. Good luck.

I'd pull the trigger now. Initial thoughts

      Upgrade De Leat?
Do you need both Jones and Evans, better defensive options?
      One of VDV/Bale to Silva?
Upgrade Ruddy to a keeper more likely to CS who can assists Vorm's tricky patch?

      Best of luck!

All those points are on the WC agenda but can survive well if everybody plays in 23.
Jones Evans ok for next wk, can use FT to change out HUTH or De laet for Back up
VDV Bale ok for next week
Dont want Silva away to EVE
Ruddy will be bench keeper next week.
Sound advice but they can all be done in 24 imo.

Very shocked to have a relatively large arrow with a score of 22.
Really gutted to have missed out on those Dempsey points though, always feel so bitter when you were do close to getting someone who gets a big haul!
But you live and learn, things don't always go your way.
Don't have a viable way to get Dempsey in my team this week, so going to have to take a punt on Zamora.

My honest opinion use your wild card after 23, lots of dust will settle after FA cup tie.
Lots of missing games and double weeks on cards.... so if you will play after 23 you will exactly know how to setup your team rather than last minute panic..

Folks just a quick question? I still have Jan wildcard available, the FPL rule says

"The January Wildcard can only be used after Gameweek 20 starts (2 Jan 11:30) until Gameweek 23 ends (4 Feb 11:30)"

Is it safe to assume that i can play my wildcard before GW#24 starts because the deadline for GW#24 is 4 Feb 11:30, i am not sure why the FPL has written until GW#23 ends. That is kind of confusing...

    Please advise...

Yeah that make sense.. got your point.
Thanks... i believe lots of dust will settle after FA cup ties.

I can foresee lots of replays FA cup replays that would potentially limit the number of games in GW 25,26,27

        Fingers crossed...

Have one freebie before wildcard next week. Is Nani to Dempsey pure kneejerk? Should I use it to trade out Sturridge for someone like Zamora?

Same situation, no way I'm getting rid of Nani before STO,
      I'm going Sturridge -> Zamora

Wait, cup games next week could spring nasty injury surprises.
Plus you can see line ups of most teams for next GW before KO.
BTW thought you were headin out on de piss?

He was Pants today, but could easy score next week, usually gets a few decent chances per game. Even though he was crap he could have had a goal and assist. Both Arsenals goals against Swansea came down the right wing and just like Walcott he has bags of pace so for me i'm giving him ANOTHER last chance! 🙂 Obviously i'll be keeping an eye on line ups, if he's out he's a goner.

He had a good steady run of form for a while but it has really dropped off now. I saw that game today - the whole team was pants in attack. You reckon hold then?

1 game then decide but it really is a tough call if you want Demps.
Being a Yank i thought you would have had him ages ago 😉

For once, it's looking like a decent week. 42(-4) with 6 (one my captain) left to play. Still have both wildcards and will be using the January one for the GW24 games, so that means I have 1 freebie this week. Any ideas? Best I can come up with is Wilkinson -> Kelly (benching Caulker)

    Mignolet
    BAE, JEvans, Caulker
    Nani, Bale, Sessegnon, Dempsey
    RVP, Rooney, Adebayor

    Ruddy, Reo-Coker, Simpson, Wilkinson
    Bank 0.0m

Stopped reading at "looking like a decent week"
saw ur team earlier - UNREAL WEEK 🙂
play Simp instead of Caulker , that team looks like a typical recent WC team!, no wonder you still have 2!

Haha, it's been LONG over due!! Would be glorious if Rooney injured himself in the warm up and Dempsey (vc) came into play!! Yeah right. May as well use the freebie this week given I'm wildcarding the week after - anything better than Wilko -> Kelly?

Haha, believe me, I was complaining after the Chelsea game after taking a hit to bring in Migs and Sess! Unless Ramsey goes nuts it's looking like a worthwhile hit!! Any views on what transfer I should be making this week?

Dempsey almost certainly rising 0.3 by next GW, not planning on WCing, Nani STAYS this week, no way to get him in without an 8pt without losing players I want to keep! #dilemma

That's exactly why I was asking earlier. Was intending to go from Nani to Valencia or Demps in WC. Now am wondering whether to jump from Nani week early

I just activated my WC for this reason amongst others - wouldn't be able to afford the team I wanted if Dempsey and a couple of others all rise by .2 or .3 over the next week.

Also, if any are injured during the cup games then it's easy to make adjustments before the GW 23 starts.

True, but it just doesn't make sense for me to wildcard this week, team lined up sweetly for next week with 3Tot and 2Utd etc, may have to just swallow the price rise

Sure is a toughie, fairly sure Nani will end up with 2/3 but couldn't live with myself if I misses out on a vintage Nani 1goal/1assist, kept faith in that man a long time!
