Jack Wilshere suffers a setback in his recovery from an ankle injury. Alan Pardew admits he is unsure whether Demba Ba and Papiss Demba Cisse will play at Blackburn next midweek, Frank Lampard is out of Chelsea’s FA Cup game with QPR and Chris Samba takes Blackburn’s owners to task as he looks for a way out of Ewood Park:

Arsene Wenger confirmed earlier this afternoon that Jack Wilshere has suffered a setback in training. The midfielder has yet to play for Arsenal this season but had been on course to return from an ankle injury next month. While The Guardian claimed earlier today that Wilshere could be at risk for the season, Wenger refused to scaremonger, saying only:

Wilshere had a little setback. We don’t know how bad it is. I can’t give you any news on Jack because I could be wrong.

The Gunners boss also revealed that Bacary Sagna may return after long-term absence this weekend, with Mikel Arteta and Thierry Henry also standing a good chance of making the Villa game.

Andre Villas-Boas admitted Chelsea will be without Frank Lampard and John Obi Mikel for their FA Cup game with QPR. Lampard has failed to recover from a calf injury picked up against Norwich last weekend, though the Blues boss is hopeful he will be ready for the midweek trip to Swansea.

Alan Pardew’s Thursday press conference centred mainly on Senegal’s exit in the African Cup of Nations. With Newcastle front pair Demba Ba and Papiss Demba Cisse both flying home on Monday after their country’s final group game against Libya on Sunday night, there’s a possibility one or both could be ready to face Blackburn on Wednesday evening. Fantasy managers have already been drafting in the strike duo since Senegal’s omission. Over 8,000 have transferred in Ba, the fourth highest Fantasy Premier League (FPL) player to date this season, while new signing Cisse, who was priced at 7.0 by FPL yesterday, has attracted just over 200 in comparison. Though Pardew admitted he was delighted to have them back, he was cagey over their prospects of appearing at Ewood Park:

It’s not as simple as them playing at Blackburn. We have to contact Senegal and they might want the squad to fly back together or whatever. I really don’t know what the chances are, I really could not put a percentage on it. But the plus side is they are coming back to Newcastle early and they will definitely be involved against Aston Villa. Cissé has literally only had eight hours here. He has to get used to that number nine shirt.

Sir Alex Ferguson remained vague over Man United’s injury situation this morning. Speaking ahead of the weekend FA Cup trip to Liverpool, Ferguson revealed no specifics, much to the frustration on Fantasy owners of Nani and Phil Jones- both have been reported as being possible absentees for the next few weeks. The United boss failed to elaborate on reports that Wayne Rooney hasn’t trained all week and would only say:

I can’t give you much of an update on injuries. Hopefully we’ll have two or three training this morning and we’ll be better by tomorrow. It is not the best situation for us.

Chris Samba has hit out at Blackburn’s owners Venkys as he tries to engineer a move away from Ewood Park. The Rovers skipper has already seen a transfer request turned down this month and with four more days left before the January window closes, a furious Samba has lashed out at those in charge, as he continues to look for a way out:

Blackburn need players who are 100% for the club — and I’m not. The only way to solve this is for them to let me go. It will be very difficult for me to play for this team again. I’m at the end of the road here. I’m not going to change so, for their good and mine, they must sell me now. I’ve got nothing against the manager. It’s not like he’s been given £100million to spend, he’s trying to do the best he can with what he has. This is between me and the owners. It’s personal.

Marc Tierney is available for Norwich’s FA Cup trip to West Brom. The left-back has missed his side’s last five league games due to a groin injury but looks set to return to the first-team for the Hawthorns showdown this weekend, according to Paul Lambert. Tierney had previously started every one of the Canaries’ first eighteen gameweeks.

Nicklas Bendtner is expected to be sidelined for a number of weeks with facial injuries. The Sunderland forward was taken off early in last Saturday’s game against Swansea after receiving an accidental kick to the face by Angel Rangel and with Martin O’Neill admitting the Dane’s injuries are worse than initially anticipated, it affords the like of Connor Wickham, Ji Dong-won and fit-again Fraizer Campbell a first-team opportunity up front for the Black Cats:

He’s got a bit more than a broken nose. It’s difficult to put a timescale on it, but it’s going to be lengthy. We thought at one stage he might be okay. The early signs, even on Sunday morning, were that it looked as if it might be okay. But he’s going to be out for a number of weeks now, which is definitely a blow to us. He has a few cracks and we just have to bide our time with that. That’s a big blow to us and to the lad himself, who was beginning to enjoy a decent spell of football for us.

Steve Sidwell has recovered from a knock that forced him off in Fulham’s 5-2 win over Newcastle last weekend and is available for the FA Cup game with Everton. Moussa Dembele misses out after failing to recover from a hip injury, while the club’s official website has revealed both Orlando Sa and Mark Schwarzer are “a week or so” away from returning to action. Schwarzer’s return will, of course, be of particular significance- the Australian has failed to feature since the end of gameweek 15 but is expected to reclaim his spot between the sticks from David Stockdale as soon as he is fit.

David Moyes is set to be without the majority of his injured players for the Cottagers clash. First-choice centre-halves Sylvain Distin and Phil Jagielka are still sidelined, meaning Shane Duffy is likely to continue alongside Johnny Heitinga in the heart of the back-four. Leon Osman, Seamus Coleman and Jack Rodwell are all still out, while Ross Barkley continued his comeback from a knee problem with a midweek run-out for the Toffees youth team. One piece of good news for Moyes is the return of Tony Hibbert at right-back.

anyone got any thoughts on Stevie Ireland as an FPL prospect??/ He looks like he might be finding some form and when he's at his best he's a terrific player, but is his head screwed on properly now?

It's a real shame N'Zogbia has been such a let down, he could have been a great pick, but can not just justify 6.6, especially when you can get any of Ireland, Setrov and Albrighton for less.

he has a goal an 2 assists in 3 games. Basically need a mid for 6.6 or less who is in form or coming into form and who has decent fixtures.

Actually i disagree with this statement as it doesnt match up with the facts. Ive never been a Murray fan, but he showed tenacity for change today and whereas before today I wouldnt really have given him much chance of ever winning a slam, its now just possible he might. Lendl is clearly a positive influence on his overall game.

Sure, but that is why Djokovic is on almost twice as many ranking points as Murray. He's a much better player.

Tim Henman was better by a miles. No Grand Slam for Murray in a million years obviously. He is such a good player but the psychological aspect on his game is the problem. He needs to convince him self that he could actually win that f. Grand Slam title

Yeah, apologies, the 'nobody' remark was petty.

Though I don't see how this match proved he's psychologically weak, if anything the opposite. Came back from a set and a break down, saved set points in the third and again came back when Djokovic was serving for it. If this was last year he probably would've lost in straights (heck he did, in the final).

He's clearly not as mentally strong as the top players but this was a step in the right direction, in my opinion anyway.

Oh, and I won't respond to that Henman comment. I might have to insult you again.

Kompany and Richards is a toss up IMO, Kompany slightly more amongst the BP but Richards does like to get forward.

I'd take Enrique over BAE (and I'm a Spurs fan), as much as I love BAE Enrique offers much more going forward and Spurs' fixtures are horrendous in the upcoming weeks.

Not convinced either Brown or Senderos are the right choice to be honest, wait until Taiwo is in the game or take a punt on Onuoha? I really rate the latter, hopefully he can establish a spot at QPR.

True, I suppose they are both a bit of a punt. Very keen to get Taiwo in for Shotton which means freeing up 0.4, is it worth going:

Well it can be called generic only when more than 50% of the FPL have the same team which I think is not so as the people using this site are only a fraction of the total 2.5 million who are taking par in this edition.

that is the issue is his price, his form seemed to drop off after a few weeks, I'd give it 2 to 3 weeks before I brought Young in.

That being said, if Fergie decides to take Rooney off pens, Young could well be next in line for them

The last sentence does it for me, I was lucky/smart enough to get on Valencia pretty early and watching Man Utd he looks to be one of the few performing regularly to a high standard. Cant really see him being dropped.
Yeah he might get pushed back to RB, but he gets decent points there too.

Yeah, think he'll be used less at RB once cleverly's fit again and jones/evans can play at centre half when ferdinand's not fit/in need of rest, obviously with smalling RB. Shame young wasn't a mill cheaper as I think he could be good shout. If you look at his bad form it seemed to conicide when utd weren't scoring many. Think I'll go with valencia for now and can always upgrade to young depending on form.

    In a bit of a quandry, do I a) Graham + Richards > Ba + McAuley
    b) Dempsey + Graham > Murphy + Ba
I really want to get Ba in because I feel like a bit of sheep (as that seems to be the general consensus, no pun intended)and want RVP, Aguero, Ba, which does seem like the best front three???

I would give anything to see Anton Ferdinand walking up to Terry with his hand out, ready to shake. Then just before they touch, Ferdinand whips his hand away to smooth his hair 😀

Either that or kick Terry in the balls..

I want Terry to foul Anton, then Anton to stand up saying, "Is it cause I is black?"

I dont like Terry and anything to speed along an 8 week ban would be most beneficial for Cahill.

What's everyone's highest GW rank this season?

I hit 20k last GW and that's been best so far and I'm usully between 200-500k yet have been steadily climbing overall ranks. Guess it comes don't to consistency rather than the odd explosive score.

this season i find it impossible to put him ahead of his own partner (koscielny) for example.
too many goals he costs them, potentially he's awesome but he seems to be injured too often to find that rhythm to iron out those errors.

VDV? Spurs dont have the greatest fixtures beyond this week, maybe transfer him out next week.

Very strong starting 11, your subs are awful and dont allow much rotation. Especially Derry, he is a defensive mid you may as well have ferguson.

Lindegaard and Evans is reliant on ManU, how much do you believe in them?

This for sure. Derry and reo are horrible picks and not sure whether boswinga will keep his place either.

Shotton doesn't start regularly and stay away from doubling up on the defensive side.

Your front line looks very good. But I have some reservations about your defence though.

ok folks other than McLean, best 6.6 or less mid out there who has form (or looks like he's hitting it) has decent fixtures, looks nailed on, and, ideally, rotates well with McLean

considering him, but need to see how much he plays, especially once Taarabt gets back.
