With confirmation of John Terry’s exploratory operation this evening, along with the injury to Jose Bosingwa’s in the 3-1 defeat in Naples, we’ve seen some movement on our Watchlist. With Terry potentially facing up to six weeks or more on the sidelines, Gary Cahill looks to have the opportunity to cement his a starting role in the centre of the Chelsea back four ahead of a favourable trio of fixtures.

A possible absence for Jose Bosingwa would also strengthen Cahill’s claims. Lining up at left-back in tonight’s 3-1 defeat to Napoli, the much criticised Bosingwa was forced off on 11 minutes with what was thought to be a hamstring injury. A spell on the sidelines would surely see Branislav Ivanovic continue in the right-back role for the foreseeable future, paving the way for Cahill to partner David Luiz in the centre of Andre Villas-Boas’ defence. It’s also interesting to note that Cahill was included on the teamsheet, at the expense of Luiz, left behind at Chelsea’s hotel prior to tonight’s game. Andre Villas-Boas has confirmed post-match that the scribbles were genuine.

Given the absence of Terry and the recent form of the Chelsea back four, the prospect of defensive returns from a Blues defender would seem bleak. However, Chelsea have conceded five goals in their last five league games, keeping two clean sheets – three of those five goals conceded were also against United. More significantly they welcome both Bolton and Stoke to Stamford Bridge in the next three, with a trip to West Brom providing the filling in a sandwich of fixtures that looks appealing.

Both Bolton and Stoke rank amongst the most impotent attacks right now. The Trotters have scored just a single goal in their last three league games, while Stoke have notched just two goals in their last five. West Brom meanwhile, despite fetching five at Molineux last time out, have scored just three goals in their last five matches in front of their home fans.

With clean sheets at a premium outside of United and City, the statistics clearly indicate that Chelsea, despite the obvious frailties on show, have decent defensive prospects over the next three and with Cahill available for 5.2, he is the cheapest member of the rearguard. The former Bolton man will also bring a proven goal threat at set-plays, to help fill the void left by his skipper Terry – scorer of four goals this term.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

im thinking this tevez situation may work out perfectly for Aguero owners planning to sell gw28 for rooney. Hoping it shouldn't be enough time to threaten any serious amount of pitch time for Kun, but enough time for Kun to prove he is city's #1 striker and go bananas on blackburn and bolton.

I know Fuzz.. and true too.. Kun and Torres/Carroll defenitely not the same.. But look at his away status alone.. His last goal travelling came in gw9 against ManU.. His only travelling score after that was one assist against Che. If no one else remembered, I am sure Kun would remember that. And think "feck.. prolly Tevez will replace me in away matches". as always, this is just imo.

Mornin everyone, Ive been out of the fpl loop for a record breaking 10 days so appreciate if anyone can update the following:

    1. What are you peeps doing with Valencia? holding on or selling (suggestion for replacements?)?
    2. Anyone getting Cahill? Tempting for the short term and potential to keep for long term should Terry and Bos remains out and if Chelsea tighten up at the back?
    3. 5 Fixtures on gw29, will you be piling up your team with players involved in that gw or hold on to the RVP's, Bale's etc blanks?
    4. Predictions for Basel and Munich tonight? 😀

    Any thoughts appreciated 🙂

      1. dont own him. some are holding, not convinced of SAF's initial 4 week assessment. cabaye is a decent shout for a replacement. good fixtures, no blanks ATM. though you may have 3 toons already.
      2. tempting by price and chelsea reputation alone. but until chelsea do indeed tighten up, i think there are better options.
      3. have until gw28 deadline to save 2 transfers, hopefully by then we will know when gw29 is rescheduled.
      4. dont know.

Fair enough, plus being he could continue the cracking form he had before the red. Minus he gets you a 2 pointer. Could actually be a great punt though considering he would have Tiote getting dirty and leaving him with the creative aspect...when Raylor doesn't hog it all (hint hint).

2- Yes...but unlikely maybe sideshow bob...but fr the most part Chelsea defenders look like deadends.

3- Too early to say, may be worth it but most likely not...outside of ManU, could be as lucrative as an Everton DGW...

Bale-> Mata for GW26 onwards (at least for 5-6 weeks) isn't too crazy is it?

Tottenham have ars, MUN, eve, N/A, che coming up. Plus Spurs have Ade and VDV back and with Saha in the team, Bale's contributions could decline.

Got the idea from the Watchlist article on Mata and especially liked the part about him and Dempsey rotating perfectly (enticing considering they're both 'home' players).

Who do I bench this gw?

    Vorm Hennessey
    Kompany Richards Kelly Simpson Cahill

We can all agree on Kelly then. And presumably Hennessey.

Was planning on playing Walters. And benching The Sig.

Then it's down to 3 from Kompany, Richards, Cahill and Simpson...

UCLF- I'm definitely bringing in Frei for Lombaerts(2) for tonight. Should I also sub in N'Koulou for Chara(3)? My other sub is Park Joo Ho (Gaitan 3) whom I will most probably be leaving on the bench, unless someone thinks Basel can keep a very unlikely cleanie tonight?

Morning/afternoon/evening guys. I've been thinking 💡 Not knowing which way Mancini is going to line-up his team this weekend, is there really much point in swapping Dzeko for Aguero?

Looking at the stats, Dzeko has 12 goals, 5 assists and 17 BP's to Aguero's 15 goals, 6 assists and 19 BP's, but Aguero has played 1737 mins whereas Dzeko has only played 1208. This makes his ppg much higher. Therefore the main advantage of having Aguero is that he is more likely to play, n'est pas? But still not a certainty he'll get start/get 90mins with Mancini in charge!

So, rather than waste 1FT swapping them over when I really want to bring Rooney in (but that means a 4pt hit - Walters out too), should I not save my transfer until next week when I can bring Rooney in with no hit?

As a footnote, it also gives me a differential in my UCL H2H with the esteemed Monsieur Chris White who has a similar team to mine, plus a 4pt home advantage and has Aguero who will probably be (c). Otherwise we will probably field the same team bar 3 outfield players and his are potentially better than mine.

That means playing or benching Walters or Dzeko this week and captaining Ba. Obviously I will wait and see who plays tonight, but what do you think in principle, peeps?

Its sound although I think it is better to get Rooney in now instead of before the spurs game though. Its a pity you have already used a FT. I think it might be worth the hit because I doubt Dzeko will play and Walters will do nothing as usual.

Cheers, Ryan. The main problem is as JK states below I'd be starting the week with -8pts. Although I've a sneaky feeling Rooney could score well this week. And yes, Walters and Dzeko will probably be duds (again) 🙂

I know. I had to use up a couple of transfers these past weeks to correct the mess I made with my Jan WC in GW22, otherwise I could have saved 2 FT's for this week.

Although, I did think Dzeko would go out of his way to do something to show he was worth a regular starting place, while he had the chance 🙁

Fingers crossed time this week 😐

I always getting Dzeko over Aguero was a strange decision. But if you have him now, you may as well play him. If you are away to Chris, do not leave yourself 8 points back. Let's not forget Dzeko scored 4 in a game, 1/3 of his total goals, and performs better away, but it is Balckburn and Bolton.

I agree JK, I'd rather chance making up a 4pt deficit than an 8pt one. I was one of those who brought Dzeko in thinking he'd get some points while Balotelli was out 🙁 Not the best of moves, I admit.

If Aguero was showing fantastic form I'd bring him in for the couple of weeks but now I'm not sure it's worth doing.

            thanks 🙂

best case scenario is CS and assist, likely scenario is just CS, possible scenario is 59 minutes of play, worst scenario is 5 minutes at the end or recuring injury.

The moral of this I suppose is that tv is more important than the fans!

The trouble is it's catch 22, you either make sure you get a train ticket by booking early or wait until just before the game and risk not getting one at all. Most unfair 🙁

looks like we may be feeling the same way catmac. seriously thinking of taking my biggest risk of the season by doing rvp->rooney, and for a 4 point hit at that, but with the intention of giving him the armband. i did a similar move for a hit earlier in the season where i dropped vdv when most were still holding, and brought in nani and captained him and nani had the best score of the week i think, finished with a top 8k score for the week. when a move like this works.....its glorious.

i should add that i am aware of the perils of owning rooney, playing deep at times, too reliant on pens, ghost assists...yada yada yada. i still think utd will put up a few goals and he will very likely play a part and will likely then be in the bonus.

Yeah, I really think Rooney will do well against Norwich and if you can take a 4pt hit, I'd do it. I cant afford to, gone from 1st in my ML to 13pts behind leader, plus in ENR's CL match I am away!

OK, he may be playing deeper but he's still consistently scoring and when he hits a patch of form - bang!!

I'm bringing him in next week regardless.

That would mean those thinking of selling RVP would be brave as it'd be quite hard to buy him back for any future double - And you'd have to do that as there is no way you could go into an Arsenal DGW without him.

I can see the Taarabt bandwagon already 🙂

My word there'd be some fun and games if that happened! That would mean the other games originally in gameweek 29 involving those teams - where we thought they'd just be moved back a few days - would not go ahead. Would be a small gameweek for sure. I like it, mixes it up a bit!
