We should have known better. Back in Gameweek 10, when Arsenal visited Stamford Bridge we turned our backs on other heavyweight temptations and kept faith with Robin Van Persie in the Scout Picks. He repaid us with a hat-trick.

Ever since Van Persie has done more than enough to ensure that we never doubted his ability to score goals, regardless of opposition. And yet, with a trip to Liverpool and Van Persie’s niggling groin on our minds, we chose to look elsewhere this weekend. Similarly, thousands opted to ignore Van Persie and hand the armband to Sergio Aguero. True to form, the Dutchman punished us all, leaving it to Gylfi to save our Scout Picks blushes.

Of course, Van Persie latest exhibition of clinical finishing was worsened by Roberto Mancini’s decision to rest Aguero. Presumably drained by a midweek outing for Argentina, Aguero sat out his first City game since Gameweek 8 having started every league fixture since. City duly struggled to put Bolton to bed at the Etihad, throwing the kitchen sink and even Edin Dzeko at the brave Adam Bogdan in the Trotters goal. Eventually City wore them down – Balotelli finally finding his range after a catalogue of missed chances. The back four also pocketed a fourth consecutive clean sheet, although Micah Richards owners missed out again – another cruel blow dealt by the merciless Mancini.

We should perhaps be thankful – Aguero failed to show his cheeky little face – Mancini kept his ace goalscorer up his immaculately tailored sleeve to take to Lisbon on Thursday. That meant the Fantasy Premier League vice captain kicks in. For some fortunate souls, that might see Van Persie step up, others will look to Demba Ba or Clint Dempsey tomorrow. Spare a thought for those who opted for David Silva, however, Mancini dealt them double the sorrow to drown tonight. No Aguero, no Silva – there should be a phone line set up for this kind of thing.

Indeed, the fallout from all this could be significant. There’s nothing like frustration from rotation to spark the Fantasy manager’s knee into life. Those who captained Aguero will likely be so embittered, the Argentine will be unceremoniously shown the door by thousands. Wayne Rooney or a double dose of Luis Suarez will surely be lined up to replace him for Gameweek 28 – prices will be volatile for days.

With Carlos Tevez stretching sinews on the City training ground and today’s decision by Mancini likely to linger long in the memory, Aguero may struggle to win back our faith this season. Talking of which – we’ll knock back our Van Persie medicine with a pint or two and hope it helps us remember never to doubt him again. Punishing stuff.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Got 2 Ft's for the DGW - already decided on my first and it's bye bye Richards hello Skrtel ( bar injury ) as for the second I'm torn between playing it safe with Evans for the Man U run ( have Rooney ) or take a flier on Suarez in ( for Ba?! ) - any pearls of wisdom??

      I'm currently on Richards & Aguero > Enrique/Skrtel & Rooney (2 FT's)

My gut tells me to throw in Ba > Suarez as well, gotta take a leap of faith sometimes...

starting my wc draft by contemplating who to get rid off, thinking off getting rid of some of these lot, but wanted advice as have amde good money on them:

who of this should be ditched and who should stay:

    kelly at 3.9 (3.8-4)
    simpson 4.3 (4-4.6)
kompany 6.4 (6-6.8) unlikely to get rid but just asking
    dempsey 8.8 (8.5-9.2)
    mclean (4.5-4.9)
    silva 10.4 (10.3-10.6)
    aguero 11.2 (11.1-11.4)
    ba 7.7 (7.3-8.1)

Since you have Ba so cheap I'd hold firm there and pick your favorite from Rooney/Suarez and then try to get a big hitter in midfield. I think I'm keeping clear of Suarez but if you like him, getting him and Nani for United attacking coverage could work.

Dempsey could be awful and remain in his less attacking role and you'll be disappointed, then again he could score a goal or two and it's all good.

Between Jim White talking like he has a Highland Toffee Chew stuck to the roof of his mouth, Alex Hammond with her tedious Horse Racing chat, the completely ridiculous Surf Report, the overused giant touch screen and the continual F1 vroom sound effects since they started covering it. mignolet schwarer- rotate well until the end of the season
skrtel jevans kompany simpson kelly- good rotation right up until 35 but wary of having 2 of the fulham defence thoughts please
dempsey bale pilkington (have currently for price rise should i get siggy?) mclean valencia- was also considering nani or walcott?
rooney rvp ba- should I go suarez

defense - id go caulker/mcauley instead of kelly as you already own schwarzer

ye definately currently my team is not the above as have people like pilks, lescott and pogbranyek in to catch price rises. thanks for the feedback, and yes planning to wait until tommorow incase ba has a great game then price rises big time- who should I get siggy in for, and shud i get valencia over nani/ what about walcott?

i would monitor valencias progress (regarding the injury) and although he frees up some cash and seems more consistent than nani, i feel nani could explode towards the end of the season.

rvp is enough arsenal coverage for me, walcott is such a frustrating fpl prospect

yeah abuse the price-rises abit and re-assess towards the end of the week...gee, wish i had a wc myself at this time 🙁
