We should have known better. Back in Gameweek 10, when Arsenal visited Stamford Bridge we turned our backs on other heavyweight temptations and kept faith with Robin Van Persie in the Scout Picks. He repaid us with a hat-trick.

Ever since Van Persie has done more than enough to ensure that we never doubted his ability to score goals, regardless of opposition. And yet, with a trip to Liverpool and Van Persie’s niggling groin on our minds, we chose to look elsewhere this weekend. Similarly, thousands opted to ignore Van Persie and hand the armband to Sergio Aguero. True to form, the Dutchman punished us all, leaving it to Gylfi to save our Scout Picks blushes.

Of course, Van Persie latest exhibition of clinical finishing was worsened by Roberto Mancini’s decision to rest Aguero. Presumably drained by a midweek outing for Argentina, Aguero sat out his first City game since Gameweek 8 having started every league fixture since. City duly struggled to put Bolton to bed at the Etihad, throwing the kitchen sink and even Edin Dzeko at the brave Adam Bogdan in the Trotters goal. Eventually City wore them down – Balotelli finally finding his range after a catalogue of missed chances. The back four also pocketed a fourth consecutive clean sheet, although Micah Richards owners missed out again – another cruel blow dealt by the merciless Mancini.

We should perhaps be thankful – Aguero failed to show his cheeky little face – Mancini kept his ace goalscorer up his immaculately tailored sleeve to take to Lisbon on Thursday. That meant the Fantasy Premier League vice captain kicks in. For some fortunate souls, that might see Van Persie step up, others will look to Demba Ba or Clint Dempsey tomorrow. Spare a thought for those who opted for David Silva, however, Mancini dealt them double the sorrow to drown tonight. No Aguero, no Silva – there should be a phone line set up for this kind of thing.

Indeed, the fallout from all this could be significant. There’s nothing like frustration from rotation to spark the Fantasy manager’s knee into life. Those who captained Aguero will likely be so embittered, the Argentine will be unceremoniously shown the door by thousands. Wayne Rooney or a double dose of Luis Suarez will surely be lined up to replace him for Gameweek 28 – prices will be volatile for days.

With Carlos Tevez stretching sinews on the City training ground and today’s decision by Mancini likely to linger long in the memory, Aguero may struggle to win back our faith this season. Talking of which – we’ll knock back our Van Persie medicine with a pint or two and hope it helps us remember never to doubt him again. Punishing stuff.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Wildcard rate it

    Reina (Bogdan)

    Skrtl Kompany Evans (BAE Caulker)

    Bale Valencia Toure Pilkington Mclean

    RVP Rooney Suarez

Will play Reina in goal everyweek , as fixtures good till end Defence is good every week.
Midfield , had to lose Silva to make team work , hopefully wont suffer too much
Strikers , will change Suarez GM 31 To Adebyour , unless of course he firs up for the run in

With that midfield, you're going to be gambling for a lot of differentials Trigger...I'd honestly downgrade the defense and upgrade the midfield. If you want two cheapies, Siggy complements Mclean a little better. You're walking on the wild side 🙂

HappyAnkit should change his name to PanicAnkit - I just read back through the live game thread and he was posting our state of play every few minutes. Funny. It'll all come down to the New vs Sun game and whether Onion Rings does anything against Wolves as he has him as VC. I made the schoolboy error of doubling up on City. Won't do that again - we live and learn, I suppose.

That midfield is pretty tricky at the moment.

Yaya could be a great punt with his advanced role, but trust me Mancini lets him play so forward only against easier teams. Hence, it makes him not such a good fantasy prospect with the upcoming fixtures. Valencia's a liability at this point in time, SAF will be in no rush to bring him back with Young, Nani & Giggs all fit.

      Suarez, Reina are no-go, imo.

I can understand why people are saying Sigg over Pilkington , memories are short , and siggy scored 2 today while pilkington was off at half time.

However looking forward , pilkington has some really great fixtures coming up , while Swanseas are bad. I might yet change it , its not set in stone . May even look at Srven reland or a Bolton player

As for Torre only getting forward on the easy games ,,,, Thats good

logic tells you give the armband to RVP as he is the most consistant... Watching bucktooth yesterday made bringing him in and captaining him very tempting.. It also reminded me of when I had him for the first half of the season and I'm not sure I can put myself through that again... He must get a couple of goals in two games I would say...

Yea, wanted Suarez instead of Ba, but the cost really killed my midfield. Happy with Ba tho, can see him nicking one next week. And not terrible fixtures after that.
The option of downgrading Demps to Valencia frees up a little cash to upgrade Ba. Should be able to keep 2 trfs up my sleeve to do that.
Cheers for the comments JohnD. Good luck in your CL match 🙂

I got him in GW19 and he's been good for me, got his 10 points of the bench in GW 21. At 4.4 I've been happy having him as bench fodder, knowing that he's playing 90 each week if I need him (only missed 1 game since GW19)

That's all I needed to know. Will need Surman to have 7 attackers next week.

F*cking Dyer. All he had to do was finish with that assist, and my UCL tie would be almost completely in my favor, DESPITE him having Siggy.

        F*cking Siggy.

I had him for a while and also found him to be a nice cheap security blanket that keeps you from having a zero. Decent move, I'd say. Watched a few of their matches to check him out and he's fairly solid. Flashes some quality. Dependable player, so I don't think he is very likely to get rotated out.

Pilko or nobody in Norwich midfield, imo. Surman is dirt-cheap and gets game-time alright. But his stats don't back him to continue his impressive run at all and you'll want him out soon.

McC still remains the best option in this price range. Siggsy's getting close with all those stellar set-peices.

I'd prolly wait for some clarity on why Pilko was taken off. From my observation, Lambert loves to play Pilko in easy fixtures, which are the ones to follow in the next 5. However, god knows what will happen with that new signing's arrival. Nothing is certain, yet.

Since GW 13 when Surman started getting regular starts, he's picked up 53 points to Pliko's 44. And is 0.9 cheaper.
Only thing I'm a bit unsure of was whether Pilko was injured during that time...but can't recall any, just rotation

I totally agree Surman has STARTED and been getting the odd points. Check out Pilko's PPG & his stats tho. They're far more impressive and make him well worth the extra 0.8 mil, only if he can start.

My point basically is that there are a decent number of mids better than Surman to justify his selection. Whereas you could make a case for Pilko's potential.

Fair enough. I got him at the point where I had Sess, Demps, Bale, Silva, RVP, Ba, Aguero...so just wanted a cheapie who would sit on the bench every week, and come on with 2 points if one of the others went missing.
I guess it depends on your strategy...
No arguments that there are mids with better potential!

SIggy is harder to get, though, due to my problem with having Dyer. If I get rid of Caulker instead of Raylor for Enrique, I can get siggy, but Whoever I get I will NEED to play next weel, which is why I wanted a Norwich player over siggy.

But Siggy looks good enough to do the business anywhere, now. So infuriating.

McC's fixtures are as bad as Swans'.

Hmmm, tough decisions, now. Sure would be nice if Valencia were ready for next week. Not even sure hed play if he was, though.

Definitely. McC & Siggy as 4th/5th mids provide stability to your squad, esp if you don't have a WC. Both should play until the end of the season, as they've done wonders for their team already.

With Norwich mids, there's always a risk they could be rotated/dropped. That said, I still fancy the Pilkonaut to do the business in the next 5, if he can start.

Like many Surman suitors I was discouraged from getting him but I'm glad I didn't listen to that. The worst case scenario is that he is a cheap Moses who gets the odd assist so at least he is ideal for the bench.

It's a tight one between Rooney and Suarez. Rooney averages 7.3 points at home, Suarez 3.7 at home and 4 away. So there's a slight edge to Suarez. And to add to that West Brom are on good form. Think it will depend on how Rooney looks against Spurs, and how much his price is expected to rise.

I look at Richards and Valencia out for my 2 ft's. Bugger all in bank which leaves me lacking Valencia options. Might do the unthinkable and get rid of Silva.

    Richard - Skrtl standard...
    Valencia - Nani
    Silva - Toure.

Feels odd taking a 4 pt hit to only get 1 DGW player in, and would rather not have Toure. Any suggestions for someone cheaper? I can sell Dempsey in a couple of weeks for 8.8 and would like a bit of money in the bank to upgrade Ba to Adebayor in a few weeks too.

I would consider keeping Valencia. I wouldn't be surprised to see him feature in today's game and depending on how well he plays or how badly Nani/Young plays, you could see him restored to the starting 11. This should give you the cash to get Ade in

Bit of advice would be much appreciated about my defensive issues

    RMT

    Krul, Linde

    Richards, Evans, Santon, Rangel, Kelly
    Silva, Bale, Dempsey, Sess, Surman
    RVP, Rooney, Ba

    2FT

    Richards > Enrique
    Linde > Migs

Clearly Richards and now it seems Linde need to go. I was hoping Linde will be able to win his spot back but after De Gea won player of the month for United I don't see it happening anytime soon. Richards also has to go. The obvious subs would be Migs and Enrique. Should I be looking at other options? and if so please mention other possibilities

I guess I'm wondering if its worth saving 0.4. I kind of regret getting Rangel over Caulker because of supposed attacking superiority.

That's the big question really. I can definitely see him scoring if he plays in the hole. Not sure he will get two though

With Agger injured i just dont see cleansheets for Pool. Carragher is just way past his sell-by date

    anyone else agree?

Yeah I sort of agree. I think they will still manage the odd clean sheet especially considering the caliber of opponents in their next run of fixtures. For me that is worthy of investment for this DGW

I'm thinking Skrtle for DGW. I just can't get myself to pull the trigger

I'm thinking the same. He would be an easier trade for another defender down the track as well with a few other options near that price range.

How good is Mario Balotelli. Forget Aguero - this is the guy to have for the rest of this season.

11 goals in 900 minutes of play - on par with RVP for only £8.0m. Even if he misses a few games, a good bench will ensure it doesn't matter.

Btw - I think we'll see much more of Balotelli, less Aguero with Tevez coming back

Surely Tevez can play with Aguero no? It may have a bigger effect on Belotelli. Your other point is fair though. However if he comes off the bench for a 20 min cameo then it may not be so good.

got 2 freebie..how about doing this?

    Aguero > Suarez
    Taiwo > Enrique

that means i will go without MU's attacking player against WBA.
WBA sound rock at the back recently isn't?

Skrtel a better option over Enrique if you don't have him

I only have Tony V for manu cover. I just cant bring myself to paying 12.1m for roonpig. Not reliable enough for that price. And I still think Welbeck is shit. I'd get Henandez if Fergie decides to start playing him

I'd like to see QPR relegated. Fernandez thinks he can spend his way out of trouble - doesn't work in January - should have given Warnock more time imo.

Blackburn have the players to get out of it and Wolves already are moving up (Fulham 1 - 2 Wolves today)
