Just as Jason Lowe has cemented himself as the Suspension Tightrope poster boy in the last few months, referee Mike Dean is fast becoming his equivalent for the Men in Black column. The Wirral-based official was once again in the headlines, with a flurry of cards and couple of spot-kicks in Sunday’s ill-tempered showdown at the Sports Direct Arena.

Not content with six cautions inside the first 25 minutes of the Tyne-Wear derby, the action packed game eventually finished with Dean showing nine yellow cards and two straight reds for the visitors, in addition to the anticipated penalty.

Fantasy favourite Stéphane Sessègnon was the first to receive his marching orders; the Benin international was dismissed for striking Newcastle’s Chieck Tioté and will now begin a three-match suspension, ruling him out of the upcoming league matches against Liverpool and Blackburn, as well as the FA Cup tie with Everton. Sessegnon will be available for the Gameweek 30 home clash against QPR.

Black Cats skipper Lee Cattermole is out for even longer, though, with the club confirming earlier today he is set to serve a four-match suspension. Cattermole went into yesterday’s game sitting on nine bookings and his first-minute minute caution for a foul on Tioté meant he was due to receive a two-match suspension for accruing 10 yellows. After the final whistle, however, the combative midfielder picked up a straight red card for foul and abusive language towards Dean, earning himself another automatic two-match ban. Cattermole will now miss the league games against Liverpool, Blackburn and QPR, in addition to the Everton FA Cup game, and will be available for selection for the Gameweek 31 trip to Man City.

While many may feel Cattermole’s absence could affect the Black Cats resilience, a look at the stats since Martin O’Neill’s arrival perhaps indicates otherwise. Sunderland have played eight games with Cattermole in the starting line-up, returning 2 clean sheets and conceding 10 goals, while in the five games he has missed for the new manager, the Wearsiders have returned 2 clean sheets and conceded 4 goals, with Jack Colback proving a more than able deputy.

Also troubling the FA disciplinary section this weekend was Swansea midfielder Nathan Dyer. The winger’s studs up challenge on Jordi Gomez was deemed worthy of a straight red card by referee Andre Marriner, meaning that Dyer will now miss home games against Man City and Everton and the trip to in-form Fulham. With the club confirming they will not be appealing the decision earlier this afternoon, Dyer’s absence should afford Wayne Routledge a fresh chance to add to his Premier League minutes over the next few matches.

GAMEWEEK 28 BANS

  • Nathan Dyer (SWA) – 1 Red for serious foul play (first of 3 matches)
  • Lee Cattermole (SUN) – 1 Yellow takes season tally to 10 bookings. 1 red for foul and abusive language (first of 4 matches)
  • Stéphane Sessègnon (SUN) – 1 Red for violent conduct (first of 3 matches)

      Shotton out? Surely he's a keeper?

      Also, you'll do Bale > Young then find Young out of the Utd team/rotated and Bale scoring freely again. D'oh! As for Zamora > Morison, I assume you don't mind paying ~£5m for a striker who will be rotated?

    Okie ladies and gentlemen:

    I have similar ideas as majority of you here, ie.:

    Aguero -> Suarez
    Ba -> Rooney
    Sess -> M. Davies (Bolton)

    I am taking a 4 point hit only.

    My question is on the M. Davies prospect in the coming weeks. Bolton's fixtures seem the best for the next 5 GWs and I'd like to know what your take on Davies and his potential.

    Thanks!

    Lost on last page. My current team is:

    Vorm / Krul
    Kompany / Skrtel / Evans / Caulker / Santon
    Bale / Demps / Siggy / Sess / Silva
    RVP / Aguero / Ba

    Plan A would be:
    Aguero -> Rooney.
    Sess -> 6.3 mid for a 4 point. Noone I really like the look of though?

    Plan B is:
    Sess -> N'Zog and keep Aguero. Probably madness but need to catch up.

    After that plan is for Ba -> Odem next week

    fair to say aguero and mata are the two most reknowned 'home boys' in FPL this year? both were in la liga last season. last season it was silva's first season away from la liga his 2 away goals were an effort deflected off his ass in the manchester derby and a goal against blackpool, a team dikson etuhu scored twice against.
    torres scored a shit load of goals in his debut season, 24 of them. surely an exception? 21 were at home, with just 3 away including derby county.

    it's a rectangle of grass, this is pure coincidence right?

    Those of you that are looking at Suarez for the DGW, just ask yourself, would you usually get him in ahead of Sunderland away and Everton at home, given his and Liverpool's form this season?

    I'm convinced RVP and Rooney will comfortably outscore him, and wouldn't rule out Pogrebnyak, my third striker doing so as well. I'm not taking another hit to swap out players who have scored 4-5 goals in their last 3 fixtures, for one who's scored one.

    Double Schmouble 😛 If you really want the 4 points from a DGW striker, get Denis Stracqualursi, he's about 4M cheaper 😉

      I can't stand the guy either but have taken a punt and am sure I will live to regret it but there are only so many times a guy can hit the woodwork, surely....?!

      I agree that Rooney and RVP will score more but they also cost a lot more.

      Suarez in for a 3 GW punt can't be that much of a bad move when you have leads to catch and have certain City players to get rid of. Aguero, Dzeko, I'm looking at you.

      Here's a stat for you - Pogrebnyak has scored with every one of his 5 shots on target in the last 4 weeks. Is he really that good or has he been a tad fortunate? What if Suarez's luck improves* and his consistent shots on goal get rewarded?

      *I am in no way saying he deserves it!

        Truth. It also might be true though that Pog is an infinitely better finisher than Suarez

        Interesting stat. Pogrebnyak won't continue to score every shot on target, but Fulham create as many chances in their home games alone than Liverpool do overall, on recent form.

        I'm perfectly happy with my front line of Pog-Roon-RVP until GW31 where Ade comes in for the Russian.

        I'm not at all worried going into this week without Suarez.

    Best midfielder below 6.4m? Should I keep SiggyStardust and just play McClean this w/end or get rid of one? I'd have a spare 1.4m so 6.4m if I got rid of Sig or 6.1 if I got rid of Jimmy Mac.

      Keep McClean imo Sam, with Sess out he should see even more of the attacking chances than he does already.

    Any news or thoughts on the Zabaleta/Richards situation?
    With Zaba facing 3 weeks out, it could finally be a good time to have Richards (if he isn't injured himself).
    News on Richards' fitness seems to be minimal...

      I watched it this afternoon, excellent. I'm guessing similar goings on at chelsea! I thought Warnock (never a fan of his) came out of it looking very respectable.

        Worth a 4point hit to play a 9.7m midfielder over Pilki?

      only if it stops you from doing transfers you want - otherwise prioritize points over money

    Ok guys two questions:

    1) Richards + ba - Evans + Suarez, good business? Have to do it tonight to avoid a .4 swing!
    2) considering 2 more transfers for a hit who would u pick for bolton mid, m.Davies or miy?
