Twice. That’s how many times –prior to today- that Robin Van Persie had failed to score or assist in an Arsenal win this season. Once at home, back in Gameweek 4 in a 1-0 win over Swansea, and once on the road, in a 2-1 triumph at Sunderland in Gameweek 25. With the Gunners on a six-match winning run coming into today’s game with Villa, confidence in the Dutchman was high; we’d handed him the armband in our droves, with 46% of all votes in the Captain Poll, double that of Wayne Rooney’s 23%.

Today’s 3-0 win at the Emirates extended the Gunners’ winning streak to seven games but it was the midfielders who stole the show; Mikel Arteta and Theo Walcott grabbed a goal apiece, while Alex Song provided a pair of assists.

There’s no doubt Van Persie’s blank – the first time since Gameweek 5 he has failed to score in back-to-back Gameweeks- hands the advantage firmly to Rooney this Monday evening. Those of us who have the United man, but failed to captain him, are now caught in a quandary as the champions take on travel-sick Fulham; willing Rooney to do well but, at the same time, not to run riot and rub our noses in it, with the rarity of an unreliant Robin perhaps proving pivotal in many a mini-league standing this week.

Swansea’s defeat at home to Everton also threw us a curveball, making a mockery of both form and fixture. With three clean sheets in a row, Brendan Rodgers’ backline was widely expected to produce defensive returns in this afternoon’s Liberty Stadium showdown. The Toffees spoiled our Fantasy plans, though, notching twice in an away for the first time since November; Leighton Baines netted for the first time this calendar year as the Swans’ wings were well and truly clipped.

Elsewhere, Wigan ruined the clean sheet hopes of Liverpool defenders in a shock 2-1 win at Anfield. With a single win in their last fourteen, Roberto Martinez’s side looked to have little chance of victory; Liverpool would surely bounce back from their midweek defeat at Loftus Road, right? Maybe the shock of Luis Suarez’s first home goal since Gameweek 15 stunned the hosts but yet another inept display from the Carling Cup winners saw them taste defeat for the fifth time in six. Daniel Agger’s return from a rib injury can’t come sooner for Kenny Dalgish.

In a weekend filled with the unexpected, then, it was left to Bolton to put a positive spin on the day’s events. Only this time last week, many of us had watched on as Fabrice Muamba lay motionless in the White Hart Lane turf after collapsing in the FA Cup clash with Spurs. Prior to kick-off, the club paid tribute to the midfielder’s remarkable, and continued, recovery over the last few days and, in an emotional match on Lancashire, the Trotters 2-1 derby win over Blackburn hauled them out of the relegation zone and proved a fitting end to what has been an extraordinary last seven days for everyone at the Reebok.

Hello deadzone! A tumultuous gameweek has left me not knowing what to do next

    Begovic (Krul)

    Kelly, Evans, Richards, (Enrique, Rangel)
    Bale, Valencia, Dempsey, Siggy (Surman)
    RVP, Rooney, Ba

    1FT 2.8m in the bank

Not really sure what transfer I need to do first. I would like the Verminator, so selling Enrique could be a good option then just bench one of Evans(bla) or Kelly(NOR) for this week. Or would it be better to sell Surman or Ba (depending on how Ba goes). It almost seems pointless selling Surman though because he will be a permanent sub and I can get by without selling Enrique this week as I plan to bench him. Thoughts?

It's one of those GWs where stuff has gone so left field, you have next to nothing to base any sensible transfers on.

I'm gonna coast this one, save the FT and have 2 to do something sensible with next time. You're not holding any Sunderland or Blackburn and, AFAICS, they're the only ones I'd be wary of playing again in GW31.

Mind, this might change after the Toon and United play... I have Cisse and like the look of Valencia > Hernandez... could be persuaded to bale out of Liverpool defenders too. Just not this week.

For a consistent 2-5 points, go for Victor Moses.

At 5.0 and 100 points already this season, i reckon thats great value for money. Especially when you consider Yaya Toure or Arteta at 7.7 and 7.9 are only at the 104 and 109 mark.

Toying in my head Yakubu vs Sigurdsson for the final spot in the front 7 next GW.

    Walcott(qpr) • Valencia(bla) • Bale(SWA) • Dempsey(NOR)
    Rooney(bla) • RVP(qpr)

Yakubu- Scored prevously against United(Twice) at Old Trafford in a 3-2 win for Blackburn, although the Nigerian has only 2 goals in his last 6 games.

Sigurdsson- Scored a double away from Home once again at Craven Cottage, with 48 points away from home compared to only 17 at home this season and 4 goals in his past 6.

So, Yakubu(MU) or Sigurdsson(tot) this GW

    Walcott/Mata/VDV/Gerrard for Silva?
    Adebayor for Pogebrnyak

    My questions:

Walcott seems favourable based on his form but he has a tough GW32 against Man City so it might be better to bring him in for GW33?

Mata is a bit of a hit or massively miss. Bale has been out of sorts and my main competitor has him so VDV might be the differential. With games against Swansea, Sunderland and Norwich...Tottenham players seem to be first choice.

Sess has a tough run against Man City and Tottenham, so might hold off until GW33 to bring him in.

So no Gerrard or VDV to be considered? Seems like everyone is set on Walcott! Thanks guys

I'm going to go for Jelavic if he's restedt on tuesday. Every transfer you suggest makes sense to me. Silva's gotta' go really hasn't been himself recently and was taken off after 60mins against Stoke (ankle injury?). Ba.. Newcastle not firing on all cylinders and Ba is now playing in a less advanced role behind Cisse. Kelly... Fulham's defence has looked very shakey recently.

So what's this about Wenger hinting in the post match conference, that RVP might be rested against QPR? Surely not, although there is a crazy set of fixtures from GW32-34 (three matches in eight games for most teams).

People would expect me to be happy with 34 pts, but how can I be when the two players I transferred out this week both happened to be goalscorers. I'm talking about McClean and Y.Toure. Now McClean, I can take full responsibility for. He had an easy fixture and ti was a gamble taking him out before this fixture. But why did Y.Toure also have to add to my misery? Truthfully speaking, I have indeed been saved by the unexpected- Wheater (Well I did know he did have a decent goal scoring for a defender from his Middlesbrough days) . Anyways if I had not made a single transfer this week, I would be on 48 pts at the moment.

Took out Mc myself last week for Morrison & played him over Seggsy. Lost 16 points last week and 13 points this week.

      Consider Walker.

He seems to be getting into good areas on the counter.

Scored a counter vs Bolton in the FA cup.

Could easily have had one last night if Adebayor kept his cross down, and he went close again when bale played him through on an angle - shoulda hit it far post.
