Wayne Rooney’s goal is just enough as United dominate but ultimately rely on a contentious refereeing decision to hold off Fulham at Old Trafford. Here’s the notes from last night’s Gameweek climax…

Jonny Evans
The centre-back compounded his “essential” Fantasy status with the assist for United’s winner to add to his clean sheet. Maximum Fantasy Premier League (FPL) bonus is beckoning, giving Evans his second consecutive double figure return as United recorded a third shut-out in as many games. Recent weeks have seen Evans’ price rise to 5.0 but, given that he offers assured starts in the arguably the strongest back four in the league, there can surely be no quibbling over his acquisition.

Wayne Rooney
Replaced after 77 minutes, Rooney nonetheless had already notched 21 goals for the season, with last night’s strike his eighth goal in his last six league starts. That proved enough to justify the Fantasy Premier League captaincy over Robin Van Persie, as the two strikers begin an ongoing head-to-head feud for the Fantasy armband and the Golden Boot for the remainder of the season. By his recent standards, Rooney’s performance was a modest one – the goal being his only effort on target in the game.

Antonio Valencia
The Ecuadorian went into the match with a vast slab of new FPL ownership, willing him to re-produce the points haul from the Molineux rout. While Valencia had a superb opportunity to seal the victory early in the second half, he emerged with a blank to frustrate his new investors. Despite that, Valencia would seem likely to hold his starting role on the right flank for the trip to Blackburn with his work rate and all-round game clearly in favour with his boss. The recent surge in ownership has seen his FPL tag rocket from 7.5 to 7.9 but, at that price, he still remains excellent value – offering a potentially rich source of attacking points for United’s favourable run-in.

Ashley Young
Young was recalled to the starting lineup with Javier Hernandez, perhaps surprisingly, dropped to the bench to make way. That saw Danny Welbeck tuck in alongside Wayne Rooney in attack. Young had ample opportunities to reward those Fantasy managers who had kept faith with the former Villa man, but saw his best efforts turned away by the athleticism of Mark Schwarzer. Young seems set to compete with Nani – who is expected back in training this week – for the role on the left, with Valencia looking more secure in Ferguson’s lineup on the opposite flank. With his start at Blackburn in question, then, Young’s stock is set to decline as Valencia’s security and price tag has him move in the opposite direction in our Watchlist rankings.

Javier Hernandez
The Mexican watched on from the bench while Danny Welbeck and Wayne Rooney struggled to break the Fulham resistance, despite firing a brace at Wolves last time out. As a Fantasy investment, Hernandez remains a real rotation risk, with his battle with Welbeck set to continue for the remaining matches. While Evans and Rooney look too strong to resist for two of our the three FPL slots, Hernandez is a luxury option for the third slot – the security and value offered by Valencia again looks set to prove decisive, leaving both Hernandez and Welbeck as likely short-term differentials for the final Gameweeks.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Who is best for rotating with Mignolet? Begovic seems to be the obvious suggestion but is he really the best choice? Better to have a home keeper to rotate...

I was all set to get begovic to partner mignolet, but then I realized that the rotation isn't as good as it first seems, as ALL of the teams you would play are going to be involved in the relegation fight, so maybe more likely to score than mid table teams. Not sure who to rotate with mignolet now.

Surprised at no bonus for Rooney -altho quite lucky as rival had him as skipper.
    Stuck for this week:
    a) Silva -> Walcott [and have to play Mignolet in goal vs. mci)
    b) Sorensen -> Bogdan [play Bogdan vs. wol + give Silva one last week (can always do Silva -> Walcott next week)]

Just had a look in the members area. Rooney got the highest ICT index score of any player in last night's game and overall for the week he was considered the 10th most threatening player....certainly more than Taiwo.

These BPs are officially a joke and yes I say that as a Rooney captainer.

          Haha I like that 🙂

Yeah it really is, seems to actually identify who played well and deserves the bonus points rather than focusing on randomly chosen stats like the Ea Sports PPI. Terrible bonus system it has to be said but I quite like that Rooney didn't get bonus in a weird way, the goal scorer shouldn't be guaranteed bonus every time!

Ha, yes I know, quel surprise, but it is based on actual real Opta stats....which is what I think the bonuses should be based on instead of this tuppeny halfpenny EA sport disney made up bonus rubbish.

Metro's scoring, based on Opta, is so much better and fairer than this EA peter pan rubbish.

Yep, I saw that too. It was hard to be impartial though considering so many of the popular players featured far more than in the BPs/EA PPI.

I definitely think the ICT reflects the games more accurately.

        - Not playing the full 90 mins.
        - 66% of his shots were off target (1 on, 2 off)

These seem to be the two main reasons. Pretty shabby though I agree.

And I'd probably say 'man in the stands' > ICT.

I may well be wrong (I never check the members stats area, can't be bothered), but I'm guessing that ICT wouldn't give defenders too many baps. Creativity & Threat, they're obviously not going to get much of. So how heavily weighted is defending in the Influence? I'm curious as I just don't think defenders get enough baps, really.

Rooney made the second most key passes and passes in the opp half of all the strikers during the game week.

He scored a goal, contributed significantly to Man Utd's passing game...what more can he do to get a bonus over Carrick?

    Opinion please.

    1) Most people suggest to "KEEP" Suarez.
    2) Consider who to play, most people suggest to start Siggy and bench Suarez.

So, Suarez will not involve in Gw31 and his next 3 games are not easy & blank... AVL, bla, N/A. I'm so wondering if it would be better to trade him early for Cisse, then bench Cisse with double price rise? 😕

I got 3, was expecting 5-7 with Rooney (C). Didn't really think Valencia would get any this time.

i thought he was poor... lots of misplaced passes, only one real attempt on goal and got subbed so its not really a surprise?

Do you get extra PPI points for tripping someone up in the area without giving a penalty away?

Hi Pratik, I answered you on last page. Distracted by other game scores coming in.

no doubt Young is expensive and he's slightly better than Valencia yesterday. but is it worth it to do Young>Valencia for a 4 point hit? (less rotation risk, can obviously upgrade elsewhere)

Crap, for the second week in a row I've got a 16pts player as a first sub thanks to my fantastic strategy of playing 4 at the back (with two Liverpool defenders, to make it even worse).

    http://fantasy.premierleague.com/entry/122449/event-history/30/

    Evans outscored them badly :D.

The doubling up on Liverpool defenders will come good - I'm sure of it.

Might be next season though. 🙁

Who to get rid of for Walcott? Silva or Bale, thinking Silva atm looking at the upcoming fixtures.

    Current Team is:

    Krul
    Kompany – Cahill – J.Evans
    Valencia – Sigurdsson – Silva – Bale
Pogrebnyak – Rooney – Van Persie

    Vorm – McClean – Kilgallon – Caulker

Also thinking doing Kilgallon to either Wilkinson or Shawcross, not sure if I need anymore money in defence so that why i'm thinking Wilkinson atm.

    Any thoughts appreciated.

I'll have both Distin and Walcott as well and seeing your overall position for the last 2 seasons, it gives me confidence!!
If I was assured Hibbert was nailed on starter I would have done him instead.

Yippee, at long last I get 3 points on the board in my Group B CL H2H beating Chris White by 7 points (sorry Chris, well not really), AND I get through to the 2nd round of the FPL Open AND I knock a few points of my ML leader's lead.

    Good week for me 😀
