James Morrison is set to be sidelined for a number of weeks after sustaining a knee injury against Newcastle on Sunday. Carlos Tevez could start for City on Saturday, while both Vincent Kompany and Sergio Aguero may return. Anders Lindegaard is uncertain when he will overcome an ankle injury, David Moyes is full of praise for Nikica Jelavic, and Victor Moses could be ready to return this weekend for Wigan, after positive scans on a facial injury sustained at Liverpool.

West Brom are hopeful that James Morrison will return before the end of the season after picking up a knee injury in Sunday’s home defeat by Newcastle. Scans have revealed the midfielder has damaged the medial ligament in his left knee and, while he is expected to be sidelined for weeks, Morrison has already started rehabilitation at the club’s training ground. The club’s head of medical services, Mark Gillett, revealed:

We’ve had positive news on James. We came to the conclusion on Sunday that it would more likely be a medial ligament issue, rather than a cruciate one, but you can’t be 100 per cent sure until the swelling has receded and you get the injury scanned. The outcome means that his rehab period will be more a case of weeks than months and, if all goes to plan, he should be able to play against this season.

Morrison’s absence vacates a role in the hole, with the likes of Chris Brunt perhaps prepared to step up, if Roy Hodgson decides to afford the playmaker a more attacking role in the Baggies midfield. Brunt has mainly filled in on the flanks since recovering from an ankle injury but, with Morrison now sidelined, Hodgson has a ready-made replacement available ahead of next weekend’s trip to Everton.

David De Gea’s Fantasy owners can relax a little after Anders Lindegaard admitted he is uncertain over a likely return date from an ankle problem. The latter had leapt ahead of the summer signing in the pecking order for United, having played five of their six fixtures between Gameweek 17-22 but is set to remain sidelined with the injury, picked up in training back in January. Lindegaard went on to reveal:

Of course I hope to have some involvement in the final part of the season. I want to contribute to winning the championship more than I have done so far. It has been a frustrating time, but that’s how life goes. I don’t know when I will be back, so I just have to keep smiling. It is the worst possible time for anyone to get injured.

Reports today suggest Carlos Tevez could be set to start for City against Sunderland this weekend. With both Mario Balotelli and Edin Dzeko failing to impress of late, it’s been alleged that City have centred their training plans with a start for Tevez in mind. If the Argentine can cement a starting role, he could prove to be the ultimate end of season differential as City look to chase down United at the top of the table, though a price tag of 11.7 is likely to deter investors, with question marks still against his first-team role right now.

Further reports suggest City could be set to welcome back Sergio Aguero and Vincent Kompany for the Black Cats’ visit on Saturday. Aguero is on course to recover from the foot problem that forced him out of the trip to Stoke, while Kompany has missed the last three with a calf injury; with City conceding in each of those matches, his absence has been sorely felt. Joleon Lescott may continue to miss out for Roberto Mancini’s men, with rest the only answer to his on-going groin problem.

David Moyes has backed Nikica Jelavic to grab the goals for Everton, with the January signing now beginning to establish himself in the Toffees first-team. Jelavic has bagged two goals in three starts since arriving from Glasgow Rangers and, having overcome injuries, has now featured in Moyes’ first XI in the last two, scoring against Swansea last weekend.

I think he has done quite well. When he came he had a bit of a problem with his stomach and he has missed a few weeks but he has given us something slightly different and scored a couple of goals. It can weigh on you (not scoring) and we have had other centre-forwards here who have found it a struggle to score.

With games against West Brom, Norwich and Sunderland up next, Jelavic – priced at 5.9 – is another forward with the potential to be a decent differential over the last eight gameweeks, as Moyes looks to increase a goal threat that has harvested just 30 goals from 30 games thus far.

Victor Moses could be back in the Wigan lineup this weekend, after scans revealed he has not suffered a fractured jaw. The 5.0 midfielder was subbed off at Anfield following a challenge by Martin Skrtel but Roberto Martinez confirmed the prognosis was positive earlier today:

We got him checked out straight away in the hospital because there was the potential for a fractured bone in his face. The results came back really positive and there was no fracture which allows us to treat him. We will see within the next few days whether he is available for selection on Saturday.

The Latics boss also revealed Hugo Rodallega and Mohamed Diame could be on course for quick returns from knee and groin injuries respectively, with both players to be assessed ahead of the weekend game against Stoke.

Beleaguered Wolves boss Terry Connor received some good injury news regarding his injury-stricken midfield earlier today. Karl Henry, David Davis and Stephen Hunt have all returned to training this week, with Henry confident of a return to the first-team fold in the crucial Molineux encounter against Bolton on Saturday. Connor also revealed he is sweating on the availability of Michael Kightly, after a challenge by Grant Holt forced the winger off with an ankle problem towards the end of the 2-1 defeat at Norwich.

    ok folks

VDV/Clint/Nasri and Santon (as a cheap 5th defender, could be replaced GW34)

    or

Barfa/Miyachi (as a cheap rotating 4th mid) and Baines?

The 2nd would require me to wait until GW34/35 depending on re-arrangements. 1st could be done with 1 or no transfers (GW33 plan)

Current backline is Evans, Skrtel, Verm, and Caulker, am thinking Baines as well is overkill.

Hmmmmmm. Mrs China Mag was all set on downgrading raylor to wilkinson to rotate with her other uber cheapies Kelly/Caulker. But then she realised that she can afford king. Not nailed on, but if you consider him as one of three rotators, you only really need him to play at least 1/3 games. Which he should do. Would be nice to have a spurs defender too. What do you reckon?

I've understood she is a bit more of a risk-taker than Mr. China Mag.

King might be a good shout. Although, and for the first time in a long time, he might actually lose his place to Gallas on performance. If Gallas does enough, that is.

She hasn't had RVP since the January wildcard! Bringing him in this week though. She didn't lose much on him when she sold him, and the plan was to switch to rooney as rvp had "difficult" fixtures, then bring him back this week. It half worked out (I think rooney has outscored him over the period?), but it would have been nice to have both!!

She caught somewhat of a lucky break there though. With RVP being a regular points Samaritan in what turned out to be a 7 Arsenal wins streak.

He`s not even essential to Chelsea team lol :p He looks to be preferred for league matches though. Just seems as people are overinvesting in defence. If you have BAE i would keep, Spurs have good fixtures. Find other way to get Verm in?

I agree about tendancy to over invest in defence. But I have 4.5m in the bank not being used.

Other defenders are Evans, BAE, Kelly, Simpson, Cahill. And I only play 3 defenders each week. So only option to get in Verm is Evans, BAE or Cahill. I am not too upset if i dont spent the money on verm as probably the 4.5m will come in usefull at some point.

I was debating this all week and finally decided on verm. He is an aerial threat, chance at assists and good chance at CS.

I was reading an article that said unless baines returns pts every week his price tag is not worth it.

With that said, I decided on going Verm, Cahill and Evans as essentials for the remainder.

    Best option?

    1) Enrique, Surman & Suarez -> Cahill, Bale & Cisse (4 point hit). Probably should have done this before the price rise but it's still an option!

    2) Surman & Suarez -> Bale & Pog (both free), with Enrique -> Cahill (GW32) and Pog -> Cisse (GW33). Swaying towards this one atm...

    Current team is:

    Migs, Bogdan
    Skrtel, Enrique, JEvans, Caulker, Shotton
    Dempsey, Walcott, Valencia, Siggy, Surman

I would go with 1 and kill 2 birds with 1 stone if you know what i mean.. saves you the transfer in the crucial period of the season, and immediate returns look likely. Bale should grab a goal/assist, cahill cleanie and cisse could as well grab a goal vs a shaky lpool d.

Hmmm. It's tempting. Although on reflection I may just save the transfer in GW32 as I have 4 good options in defence that week Skrtel/Enrique (AVL), JEvans (QPR), Caulker (NEW), and then do Pog -> Cisse in GW33, funded by getting in a DGW player (guessing we'll know who/when they are by then?...)

Yeah. If i were you id either do Enrique to solid defender, Verm/Baines/Cahill/Huth and play Kelly/Skrtel, or just save transfer and maybe clean out some Liverpool boys after that.

I have Suarez and im keeping. Newcastle arent that good at the back when Colo is out. Imagine what he can do vs Perch/Williamson? If he can shoot straight for once he could bag 1 or 2, although he has never scored 2 goals in the league for us yet:/ I had close to your team, and i did Skrtel/Morrison out, Shawcross/Theo in. Both with great fixtures to come, both in good form. Not having Bale would concern me personally, but since you have him i wouldnt trade Clint atleast not this weekend.

Walters has good fixtures, bad form but is on pens and play Wigan and Wolves straight. HBA is another good shout now that hes getting starts, they have fine fixtures. Stay clear or Song, how he has 10 assists so far i really dont understand.

nahh want ba to get back to his old ways, he really is a class player.

Cisse is just the "shiny new rock" in the playground, this may well be the week when that rock gets old and the classic action figure(ba) gets back his popularity.

Weird analogy but makes sense... kinda 🙂

Not really. I'm sure there will be games when Ba outscores Dave. He has still looked good, and has been quite unlucky. He's been denied by the woodwork or great saves from the keeper many times since his return.

The reason that people are doing the Ba - Dave switch is that over the season, Dave is likely to score more points. And is cheaper. No brainer if you ask me.

Dave is not a skilled player, he is more like a vulture, and is in the right place at the right times.

Ba is like an eagle, skilled in technique, and he has to work for his goals(prey) 😉

Ba is proven > Dave unproven, i dont care that dave scored 5 in 6, none impressed me and his two "screamers" were both fluke imo.

Just to clarify, not saying he hasen't impressed. He's had a good start to his FPL career nevertheless. Just in my eyes, its consistency that im worried about. Think he might become the next pog. Couple weeks hot, then ice cold.

+1. Ba has looked unfit tbh since returning from ACON, Cisse has looked quicker and found chemistry with HBA on the break, not to forget the way his entrance has pushed Ba WAY down on the pitch, even out wide. Looks like Cisse to be the superior FPL option, i still rate Ba more than Cisse. But in the end its all about the goals you know.

for me, Cisse is a "nice to have" at the moment.

i didn't want Ba back after ACON so took a punt on Cisse instead and now he's paid that faith back.

if RvP or Rooney returned 9pt and 16pt weeks and then had a 2 pointer you still wouldn't ship them out.

and with all the MID choices, it''s nice to have the option to bench a "cheap" forward to bench if they have a dry spell.

Anyone considering Gibbs. Less of a financial commitment for Arsenal defensive cover than Verm, he's bombing forward and surely won't be dropped for Santos who can't defend. Also may get subbed off early when games are wrapped up to get Santos back to fitness meaning he gets his clean sheets safe. I'm thinking Enrique to Gibbs to free up a bit of cash to replace Demps with Walcott in a couple of weeks. Thoughts?

Logic is sound, but i cant see Gibbs as a 100% starter. And him playing 20-25 minutes short of a full 90 every game cant be a positive thing. Can you afford Sagna?

That's true but I don't think Wenger will mess with a defence that is finally looking solid. Santos is not a defender he looks more like a left winger. He gets his positioning wrong which causes Song/Verm to get dragged out of position to cover him. I can't see him getting in as he was not fit before his 4 month lay off.

Silva to Walcott and Ba to Crouch if you can afford a hit. Only the first one else.

Is Stoke/Eve not missing their gw 34 after last night?

Just think it's important to maybe role trades(if possible) and be careful on teams/players missing gw's

Acqua. I just checked your team to see who you had in the 3rd strikers spot (Ba out this week?), and noticed Mrs China Mag just slipped ahead of you this week. She will be pleased!!

No i did Enrique > Verm this week. Have an itching feeling ba will go bonkers soon, if not will surely transfer out in coming weeks.

And unless i cant count im still ahead of her by 498 places, nice try though 😉

Tell her i applaud her effort and to keep up the hard work.

Ha. DOH! She was getting ahead of herself with all of the excitement! For some reason I thought she was 25,000 something, not 26,000 something. Oh well. She has you in her sites!

For what its worth, I think you made the right transfer. Ba is definitely "due"!

If youre going with Spurs defender i would get Kaboul. Alot cheaper and i dont think BAE is worth it. I would do Silva-Theo this week, Silva after Xmas has just been unplugged

But BAE turns to a left winger every time Bale go to center front. No?

If I had not made a single transfer this week, I would have ended up with half the rank that I have. (from 9000(1700 pts) -> around 4500(1720pts)).
