[sbu_large_image] The Knee Jerk

A breathless day. City’s late salvo may have saved face but the 3-3 Etihad draw with Sunderland loosens their grip further, priming United to take advantage in Monday night’s Ewood encounter.

Fantasy managers will have a keen interest. For the second Gameweek running, Wayne Rooney will take to the field sporting the captaincy for some, needing just a single goal to outscore Robin Van Persie. Just like City’s faltering title aspirations, the Fantasy manager’s unshakable faith in the Arsenal skipper is beginning to waver.

Van Persie came away from a bitterly disappointing 2-1 defeat to relegation threatened QPR with just an assist. The Dutchman has now gone three league matches without a goal for the first time this season. By his standards, that’s a drought.

Clint Dempsey’s goal and assist return, with the woodwork denying him a further haul, acts as an immediate comparison from today’s action. Should Rooney fetch significant returns on Monday night, we could see a significant shift in favour away from Van Persie for the Gameweek 32 captaincy.

The scene was already set for such a move. Arsenal take on City at the Emirates – Rooney will face QPR at Old Trafford. On paper, that strongly favours the United man, although given today’s results, it’s clear that the formbook can almost be shredded at this stage of the season.

The Rooney vs Van Persie battle rumbles on against a backdrop of unpredictable results; it will likely run until Gameweek 38, breaking only for the double fixtures in Gameweek 36.

A ready-made differential with some potential for those chasing a mini-league deficit, we’ve yet to see Rooney capitalise on Van Persie’s recent slips. In his last four starts, Rooney has outscored Van Persie by a total of just four points – Gameweek 28 saw Rooney fetch 13 points to the Arsenal man’s 8 – the biggest swing since the captaincy battle kicked in. Monday night is a great opportunity for a bigger gap to open; for those who transferred their allegiances early to reap the rewards for such a risk.

After Monday’s modest showing against Fulham, another tepid display from Rooney will make things interesting going into next weekend. While Rooney will likely be favoured based on fixtures, it’s hard to imagine that Van Persie’s blip will be extended to four matches. Our confidence may have slipped further after today, but the call to take the armband from the imperious Dutchman is still one that demands nerves of steel.

Those protecting a lead would seem more likely to cling to the comfort that Van Persie brings – those chasing will surely look to Rooney to help them take advantage. It’s a delicious little scenario that keeps the Fantasy game interesting, even if City seem intent on making the Premier League title race a formality.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I would like to draw your attention to the curious case of the Cheap Awayday Midfielder, or “CAMF”, as we shall call it.

This is the virulent disease that mid - to low-priced midfielders get, sometimes called Bashful Bonus Nabbing, or Not Tonight Josephinitis, the Josephines alluded to, being the frustrated Home Supporters. CAMF.

The symptoms of CAMF have been well documented. As soon as the player gets on the Away Coach, their shyness falls away like scales from a dead fish, they start to give their Centre Forward the leery eye, they nudge their scoring Centre Back in the ribs with a wink; and when they get on the field of play they come all over with the flashy - but now suddenly accurate backheels - and start spraying around deadly crossfield balls with all the panache of a modern Charlie George.

The incredibly painful effects are well-known, and do not need detailed documentation here. Suffice to say, the prognosis is poor scores, a bench with points “hanging out the back of it”, gnashing teeth, wailing fantasy players, clumps of hair interfering with the proper function of keyboards, casual transfers often done too early, and many, many other sorts of mayhem which shall remain thankfully private.

We believe that the toxic virus CAMF is both contagious and infectious. The first known carrier is a certain Moses, but both Sigurdsson and Ben Arfa are confirmed with it, and we are sure that it will spread further.

                THERE IS NO CURE, PRESENTLY.

If your team is dependent on one of these players, the only advice that we can offer is prayer.

Need a vote on this can't decide which way to go!!

Which are people seeing as more important?

    A) Full team in gameweek 24
    B) As many double gameweekers as possible gameweek 26

      GW 34 and 36 😉

It doesn't matter really but I'd go for a balance of the two

A number of things to consider (which I've not done yet... currently trying to work out why I put Moses on my bench!!!)...

What will your team look like for weeks 37, 38 if you load up too much on a couple of teams...

Is having eg. Walcott at home to Wigan in 34 going to score more Ful with two away games...

Yar that's my point. I'd rather have Walcott in my team in gw34, than put a Fulham player in there now and only have 10 players playing.

Worry about gw 34 since its in essence the same thing 34/36, but anything could have happened by 36, and probably more rotation too

Actually if you have 11 for gw 34, you could still have 7 for the Dgw with 1 four point hit

or 7 for the DGW for no hot if you save the transfer in GW34.

Man City - Think they can buy success

Chelsea - Did buy success. And the fact they give money to John Terry.

Liverpool - Quite a few reasons, but if anything, just to see say to Liverpool fans, 'at least King Kenny understands the club' and 'at least you won the League Cup'

Wigan, Wolves and QPR. None of them deserve to stay in the premier league. I don't feel they add much to the competition. Blackburn however do. The always score goals and are always capable of upsets

Wolves-been crap and big mistake firing
Wigan-been getting away with it too long
Villa-hiring McCleish and being dull as dishwater

Just saved-Blackburn, awful board, but big respect to Keane given all the criticism

He may not have done much today goal or assist wise, but the arrival of Shaun Maloney into the Wigan team has been a major boost for them, a little bit of extra class.

I always rate Maloney. He was always very much a 'fringe' player, particularly at his stints at Celtic. Always thought he was a good player who could make a difference in a game...

am probs gettong him for 37 and 38 (Blackburn and Wolves) for Ryo to free up the cash to get Verm back in for Skrtel. May also have lost RvP by then, depends on if he is going into a Ba like slumber.

would rather not do it, but I need to free up the cash and for his price with those fixtures and the added bonus of being on pens, it's worth a punt. I think by then my casual ML rival, who has no idea about 34 or 36 could be way behind me.

I had Alcaraz, Caldwell and Moses as my initial 3 Wigan players then I looked at the history for Alcaraz, saw no goals so I swapped him to Al Habsi.
