A breathless day. City’s late salvo may have saved face but the 3-3 Etihad draw with Sunderland loosens their grip further, priming United to take advantage in Monday night’s Ewood encounter.

Fantasy managers will have a keen interest. For the second Gameweek running, Wayne Rooney will take to the field sporting the captaincy for some, needing just a single goal to outscore Robin Van Persie. Just like City’s faltering title aspirations, the Fantasy manager’s unshakable faith in the Arsenal skipper is beginning to waver.

Van Persie came away from a bitterly disappointing 2-1 defeat to relegation threatened QPR with just an assist. The Dutchman has now gone three league matches without a goal for the first time this season. By his standards, that’s a drought.

Clint Dempsey’s goal and assist return, with the woodwork denying him a further haul, acts as an immediate comparison from today’s action. Should Rooney fetch significant returns on Monday night, we could see a significant shift in favour away from Van Persie for the Gameweek 32 captaincy.

The scene was already set for such a move. Arsenal take on City at the Emirates – Rooney will face QPR at Old Trafford. On paper, that strongly favours the United man, although given today’s results, it’s clear that the formbook can almost be shredded at this stage of the season.

The Rooney vs Van Persie battle rumbles on against a backdrop of unpredictable results; it will likely run until Gameweek 38, breaking only for the double fixtures in Gameweek 36.

A ready-made differential with some potential for those chasing a mini-league deficit, we’ve yet to see Rooney capitalise on Van Persie’s recent slips. In his last four starts, Rooney has outscored Van Persie by a total of just four points – Gameweek 28 saw Rooney fetch 13 points to the Arsenal man’s 8 – the biggest swing since the captaincy battle kicked in. Monday night is a great opportunity for a bigger gap to open; for those who transferred their allegiances early to reap the rewards for such a risk.

After Monday’s modest showing against Fulham, another tepid display from Rooney will make things interesting going into next weekend. While Rooney will likely be favoured based on fixtures, it’s hard to imagine that Van Persie’s blip will be extended to four matches. Our confidence may have slipped further after today, but the call to take the armband from the imperious Dutchman is still one that demands nerves of steel.

Those protecting a lead would seem more likely to cling to the comfort that Van Persie brings – those chasing will surely look to Rooney to help them take advantage. It’s a delicious little scenario that keeps the Fantasy game interesting, even if City seem intent on making the Premier League title race a formality.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Okay guys, 1FT

    A) Dempsey > Walcott

    B) Krul > Begovic

Guess it should be a no-brainer really...just that Begovic could get a clean sheet, Dempsey could do well against Bolton and City could stop Walcott.

Keep dempsey for 1 more week as Walcott is up against Man city and I can see thats being pretty tight. LOL yeah I saw the City game today.

Hi, I registered just for this πŸ™‚

Walcott has had a surprising run of form against some weaker sides recently, but even when he is out of form in fantasy terms, he scores well against the top sides who dare to push up against Arsenal instead of sitting back. That space behind the defence is what he thrives on, so I'd say there aren't many better gameweeks to have him in your team.

You could argue that City won't be as open as they were in their previous encounter with Arsenal this season, and you could be right, but even then all you need is Arsenal to take the lead so City have to attack, and just watch the through balls to Walcott on the counter pouring in.

      My 2 cents.

Very nice first contribution, cheers πŸ™‚

Very true, the form Arsenal are (well have been minus the blip today) shows they can beat almost anyone when on a good day, plus City have turned into a shambles.

I just feel that City with a fresher Kompany and team overall should step up a gear and put up a fight against Arsenal - I'd hope that RVP should be the only one capable of punishing them.

Is tough in relation to Mini League too, most have Dempsey like me, but could easily see them swapping for Walcott, I'm behind slightly but impossible to predict what they'll do so could go with keep Dempsey and hope he fires them in or take the punt on Walcott, hmm.

          Thanks!

You have a point, and the DGW probably sways it in the direction of keeping Dempsey, I forgot about that. And while Walcott will get all those chances, he could find it a lot harder to finish them past Kompany and Hart, and perhaps Zabaleta (is he fit?) tasked with curbing him like he was with Bale.
So having RVP is most likely enough. And he is a very serious candidate for the armband as well, it's almost a pity Rooney has such an easy fixture!

Ah that's my thinking. Is a tough one, been bad away but it's Bolton so who knows. Krul to Begovic means that's my keepers sorted for the season too, just feels bad having to use FT on keeper.

Such poor fixtures though. I could swap Demps for Walcott for Wolves and Wigan games, then back to Dempsey for Wigan and DGW games.

Wouldn't do me harm money wise, as more money from Krul > Begovic and I bought Dempsey at price he is now anyway.

Hopefully will go to plan though, will just keep an eye on both players and play it as it comes along!

Not too sure to be fair, got Ade right now...didn't too fantastic against Bolton but he's that kind of player. Long streak of 2s and 3s then a potential whitewash - will have to judge it on what happens in next games but I went for Ade as more of differential to those in my ML.

I've got Bale too, so thought VDV might be overkill for the midfield department.

cisse as my 3rd striker, then squeeze lamps in? (for the differential... first year in 4 that i'd ever say that haha)!

Arsenal looked really bad today and I'm a little worried now that I fully loaded on their team. In hindsight maybe Baines was the better pick but then I woulda had to make other adjusments to my team. Verm better shape up vs City or that match could be very ugly.

Apart from Caulker i woundn't really wan a cheap defender at this point. Need to go for max value and that means good defenders in good teams with attacking threat. Verm, Baines, Evans? Richards etc.

Not many players in defense or striker represent strong value at the moment. The easiest place to fill is midfield. Havn't got a clue who the 3rd striker should be and anything could happen in defense. Baines MIGHT represent good value if he can keep up the clean sheets to go along with attacking returns but he is very expensive.

Insanity, basically. You familiar with game at all? There are auction versions and straight draft versions. Very different bird from fantasy soccer/football, but yeah, I'll elaborate

Simplest version of game is typically 10-12 "owners", who take players in a draft, filling their rosters with set number of players from each position. Typical is 9 pitchers, 5 outfielders, first baseman, second baseman, shortstop, third baseman, 2 catchers and a few utility spots that can be filled by players from any position.

Yes, but insanely larger numbers of leagues. Almost every league is a unique little game amongst colleagues. Myriad of different rules, but all similar concepts. There are "random stranger" games that you can sign up for through ESPN and other sites. There are a few games like EPL where you have everybody taking the same players, but those are less popular. Much more about the face-face, amongst your friends thing here.

Scoring is based on your roster's accumulated stats in each of ten categories, 5 hitting (team batting average, team total of home runs, team total of stolen bases, team total of runs scored, team total of RBIs) and then 5 pitching categories as well. If ten team league, the owner who has the best total in a category gets 10 points for that category, then 9, 8, 7 and so on. Perfect score for ten teams x ten categories is 100 points. Standings are kept cumulative over entire year and winner at end of year wins all (typically) There are some weekly head-to-head varieties as well.

Yes, But main difference in draft vs auction is that with draft, you have first pick and you take Albert Pujols, that is it, he is yours and the next guy just has to move on from there.

With an auction, we have a salary cap, and the first name thrown out for bidding may be Albert Pujols, but then it is a matter of who wants him the most. You have a valuation based on his projected stats, but if somebody wants him more, they may overbid you to crazyville and you may have to formulate different plan for your team construction.

We have some degree of "keepers" from one year to the next, and the salaries that you bought them at at auction carry over to the next year, so everybody comes in to the auction with a different amount of money to spend, different numbers of players and positions to fill, and different statistical needs to fill at that auction.

This morning, the 12 owners needed to fill 122 spots total, with each spot being a bidding process on a player that was brought up for auction. Turns into tons of mindgames near end when you are trying to bring up players that you know other owners will want to bid on but that you don't really need, in order to get them to spend their money down to a point where you are able to outbid them on the players that you really want to get.

Then after the six hours that it took to do that, we fill out a reserve team, with 17 more players (bringing total roster size to 40 players). The 17 round reserve draft is just a typical draft with no bidding component. But by then, we are so deep into the player pool that we are drafting on minor league baseball players on the chances that they will get called up to the majors at some point before our rights to them expire and they get thrown back into the pool.

Everton were decent. Took their chances well.
West Brom had a few good chances, especially with Long. But nothing came of it in the end.

Overall Everton looked pretty solid in my opinion. Though I was distracted while I was watching the replay of the game today.

    two pretty unrelated questions:

    1) do you guys think madrid will have players rested for their home champions league match given they are 3-0 up from the away leg and have valencia next weekend? and if so who do you think will be rested? (trying to sort out my champions league team)

    2) what are you guys doing for gw 34 and 36? and specifically how many gw 34 players will you have and how many dgwers will you have? who do you think the key players to have for each week are?

      1) i doubt it, they will just keep possession and probably win 5-0.

      2) will have 11 for gw34, and with no hit will have 7dwgers.

        1) gotcha. im thinking of doing khedira to xabi alonso and/or gomez to benzema (already have ronaldo and arbeloa) for two different reasons. first off is that i think madrid will do quite well and secondly I will be in madrid when the game is happening and still hoping that my group can get tickets to go to the game in which case it'd be a lot more fun to be rooting on my four madrid players (yes im a barca fan but since i'll be there and the result wont affect barca I'll actually be rooting for los blancos)

wow that was a lot longer than i meant it to be... sorry!

        2) ok that makes sense. who will be the key targets for gw 34? besides players we already have like rooney and rvp, etc. and which 7 dgwers? im guessing dempsey plus 3 spurs and who else?

do u think gomez to benzema could be a good swap though?

who would you get him in for? didn't get to see the game. but idk... i just dumped him. kind of content with my silva, bale, dempsey, valencia, siggy mf with silva prolly going for walcott this week or next...

            gotcha. kaboul over bae/walker though?

the thingn is i'd probably have to destroy my team for some of those. and besides bosingwa at the beginning of the season i've avoided chelsea entirely which has worked out pretty well for me. they don't have consistent point scorers.... hmmm gerrard temps me because of the last dgw but not sure where i'd get him in....

yes surely, either him or higuain. Higuain scored 2 today.

hmmm higuain could be a decent shout. it just seems a bit risky to me though because i think benzema has been playing and starting a lot more, right?

ohh good point. but for .6 or .8 more you get good attacking threat. theres a reason bae was the high scorer of that dgw.

speaking of which, I could do silva and enrique out for walcott and bae this week for a hit (would have to do before any price changes as I have exact money right now). does that sound reasonable or a bit silly?

                thanks for the help!

Dempsey through wk 35 for me.... It means keeping him through a dead week, I know, but it gives you two home matches where he seems to always produce (CHE and WIG) and a match at Bolton where you think he'd have to produce something. DGW in 36 is rough for me because both are away at sides that play fairly well at home., then they host Sunderland and are away to Spurs. If not sticking with him for the end of the year, I think that pre 36 is the place to go, perhaps.

4 of last 6 for Arsenal are against sides that concede pretty readily, so bringing in Walcott for 33 would be reasonable, I think.

I know, and I'm not convinced, yet, but I'm not exactly looking forward to it with great anticipation. If I could muster a spare 0.7 by then, I'd think about switching to Mata who has DGW at home (QPR, NEW) and then closes out in 38 with BLA. (37 is @ Liverpool)

i'll try to help but the problem is right now im unsure of what to do msyelf....

how much do you have in the bank? and im guessing you wont bother bringing in anyone for sorensen at this stage in the game right? if you wanted to get rid i'd say get bogdan as he'd be a decent shout for his dgw in gw 35

i would get rid of ba for a gw 34 player so you can play 11 (433) without any other transfers. i would think bendtner, graham, the yak, and odemwingie would all be decent punts. depending on how much you'd lose you could also do dempsey to walcott and then maybe bring dempsey back in the week after but thats a waste of two transfers....

then i'd probably get rid for ade if you can for the dgw (other possibilities would be sturridge, suarez, ba, cisse, and pog)

might bring bae in for kompany for the double and maybe a chelsea or liverpool defender in for verm

that way you'd have 2 or 3 dgw defenders plus bale, demps and ade (or another forward) which i think is a decent amount probably.

            hope this helps!

Hard to pass people when you get into this range though, because there aren't any more dead teams and people generally have pretty tight squads. Hard to find much differential

Your rank is better than I last saw you. What are you planning to do in gw34, gw35, gw36. I am currently fielding 9 players for gw34, 4 dgw players for gw35 and 9 for gw36. Since you had an amazing last year (i did too in my own way), I wanted to ask would you prefer to field 11 in gw34 and cut short in dgw's or is my original idea more than acceptable.

who are your 4 dgw players in 35 gunna be??

and I would say that I think it depends who you are getting for 34. if you are just getting someone because they will play then i think its silly and better to have players who have a good chance of doing well in 36 and have two games. I think you cant generalize but it more depends on a player by player instance. like x player for 34 vs y player for 35

here are my thoughts behind the trade: first off is that i think madrid will do quite well and they have an easier game so want to get benzema and ronaldo to make sure i get most of their attacking points (was very frustrating to have ronaldo get me 2pts when they won 3-0...) and secondly I will be in madrid when the game is happening and still hoping that my group can get tickets to go to the game in which case it’d be a lot more fun to be rooting on my four madrid players (yes im a barca fan but since i’ll be there and the result wont affect barca I’ll actually be rooting for los blancos). if not we will probably go to a resteraunt or pub or something and watch it there.

but yet gomez is quite good so i find it hard letting go... would be for just one week though

Lampard scored 2 points in a 2-4. Wigan will be alot tougher than people think. Depends which Lampard turns up.
