[sbu_large_image] The Knee Jerk

A breathless day. City’s late salvo may have saved face but the 3-3 Etihad draw with Sunderland loosens their grip further, priming United to take advantage in Monday night’s Ewood encounter.

Fantasy managers will have a keen interest. For the second Gameweek running, Wayne Rooney will take to the field sporting the captaincy for some, needing just a single goal to outscore Robin Van Persie. Just like City’s faltering title aspirations, the Fantasy manager’s unshakable faith in the Arsenal skipper is beginning to waver.

Van Persie came away from a bitterly disappointing 2-1 defeat to relegation threatened QPR with just an assist. The Dutchman has now gone three league matches without a goal for the first time this season. By his standards, that’s a drought.

Clint Dempsey’s goal and assist return, with the woodwork denying him a further haul, acts as an immediate comparison from today’s action. Should Rooney fetch significant returns on Monday night, we could see a significant shift in favour away from Van Persie for the Gameweek 32 captaincy.

The scene was already set for such a move. Arsenal take on City at the Emirates – Rooney will face QPR at Old Trafford. On paper, that strongly favours the United man, although given today’s results, it’s clear that the formbook can almost be shredded at this stage of the season.

The Rooney vs Van Persie battle rumbles on against a backdrop of unpredictable results; it will likely run until Gameweek 38, breaking only for the double fixtures in Gameweek 36.

A ready-made differential with some potential for those chasing a mini-league deficit, we’ve yet to see Rooney capitalise on Van Persie’s recent slips. In his last four starts, Rooney has outscored Van Persie by a total of just four points – Gameweek 28 saw Rooney fetch 13 points to the Arsenal man’s 8 – the biggest swing since the captaincy battle kicked in. Monday night is a great opportunity for a bigger gap to open; for those who transferred their allegiances early to reap the rewards for such a risk.

After Monday’s modest showing against Fulham, another tepid display from Rooney will make things interesting going into next weekend. While Rooney will likely be favoured based on fixtures, it’s hard to imagine that Van Persie’s blip will be extended to four matches. Our confidence may have slipped further after today, but the call to take the armband from the imperious Dutchman is still one that demands nerves of steel.

Those protecting a lead would seem more likely to cling to the comfort that Van Persie brings – those chasing will surely look to Rooney to help them take advantage. It’s a delicious little scenario that keeps the Fantasy game interesting, even if City seem intent on making the Premier League title race a formality.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Currently looking at about seven DGWers.

ATM i'm planning on having.......Friedel, Walker, Enrique, Bale, Miyaichi, Gerrard/Mata, Jellyfish.

With £5.7m left for another DGW defender so which of these would be the best option???

    A) Shawcross/Huth £5.2m/£5.6m ARS(H), EVE(H).

    B) Cahill £5.4m QPR(H), NEW(H).

    C) Jagielka £5.3m FUL(H), STO(A).

    Much appreciated guys.

Would like some opinions on Vermaelen please! I'd obviously like to get Baines but can't without taking a hit - Right now, I have up to 7.1m to spend on a defender - Is Verm the next best option?

Arsenal tend to have erratic form this time of year but, he does play in GW 34 (barring injury) and has pretty decent fixtures (next GW excluded perhaps). By GW 36, I will probably either have the cash for Baines or go for a Chelsea defender.

So, in short, is Verm still the best option up to 7.1 for the next few GWs, or am I missing somebody better?

    Thanks!

Thanks - Actually I don't have him yet so I'm not knee-jerking. Just trying to get the best player possible for the money I have. Agree with your view about GW 34, that's a lot of the appeal right now.

Thanks Mate. But the Confident Blues under RDM at home to wigan looks like a cleany, with cahill posing a decent goal threat. Even though Walcott scored the goal His overall play today was horrible. With city being the more desperate team going into next weak. i see them emerging narrow winners.
Mata is a player i'd wish i had for GW32, or a surprisingly now confident torres as a huge differential.

              Hi,

I don't entirely buy into this 'revival' to be honest. We've beaten some average teams in Europe, and our league form hasn't been sensational. Was at the game today and can't claim we were especially good. Should have been much more comfortable against what was a very poor Villa side. The Tottenham game was pathetic, outplayed for most of the match and RDM didn't seem to have any idea of how to win the match with his substitutions.

I actually dumped Mata this week for Bale. I had a HUGE feeling he would get rested either this GW or next. As he played today, I'm convinced he will be rested at home to Wigan.

tomytour just saw youur response. who'd you get rid of for kompany? and this makes two weeks of bad transfers for me. last week was ba, sess, taiwo out for yak, valencia, evans for a hit...

im leaning towards it. i think i'll be benching silva if i keep him (see my post above) but if i got walcott in then id need to figure out who to bench. or maybe i bring in and bench just so i have a slightly better sub and dont miss out on price rises. its a tough one.

for simpson/kelly which one do u htink has the better dgw fixtures? thats what im stuck on...

Who did you lose I lose for Komp? Senderos

Depends who you need to play in other gameweeks to be honest. From my response I would lose both!

Only down 1K with 23 despite a hit...kinda surprising. A lot of people must've captained Rooney.
