A breathless day. City’s late salvo may have saved face but the 3-3 Etihad draw with Sunderland loosens their grip further, priming United to take advantage in Monday night’s Ewood encounter.

Fantasy managers will have a keen interest. For the second Gameweek running, Wayne Rooney will take to the field sporting the captaincy for some, needing just a single goal to outscore Robin Van Persie. Just like City’s faltering title aspirations, the Fantasy manager’s unshakable faith in the Arsenal skipper is beginning to waver.

Van Persie came away from a bitterly disappointing 2-1 defeat to relegation threatened QPR with just an assist. The Dutchman has now gone three league matches without a goal for the first time this season. By his standards, that’s a drought.

Clint Dempsey’s goal and assist return, with the woodwork denying him a further haul, acts as an immediate comparison from today’s action. Should Rooney fetch significant returns on Monday night, we could see a significant shift in favour away from Van Persie for the Gameweek 32 captaincy.

The scene was already set for such a move. Arsenal take on City at the Emirates – Rooney will face QPR at Old Trafford. On paper, that strongly favours the United man, although given today’s results, it’s clear that the formbook can almost be shredded at this stage of the season.

The Rooney vs Van Persie battle rumbles on against a backdrop of unpredictable results; it will likely run until Gameweek 38, breaking only for the double fixtures in Gameweek 36.

A ready-made differential with some potential for those chasing a mini-league deficit, we’ve yet to see Rooney capitalise on Van Persie’s recent slips. In his last four starts, Rooney has outscored Van Persie by a total of just four points – Gameweek 28 saw Rooney fetch 13 points to the Arsenal man’s 8 – the biggest swing since the captaincy battle kicked in. Monday night is a great opportunity for a bigger gap to open; for those who transferred their allegiances early to reap the rewards for such a risk.

After Monday’s modest showing against Fulham, another tepid display from Rooney will make things interesting going into next weekend. While Rooney will likely be favoured based on fixtures, it’s hard to imagine that Van Persie’s blip will be extended to four matches. Our confidence may have slipped further after today, but the call to take the armband from the imperious Dutchman is still one that demands nerves of steel.

Those protecting a lead would seem more likely to cling to the comfort that Van Persie brings – those chasing will surely look to Rooney to help them take advantage. It’s a delicious little scenario that keeps the Fantasy game interesting, even if City seem intent on making the Premier League title race a formality.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I think my green arrow is only due to the extra 5 points for RVP (c). All the Rooney (c) and possibly Bale (c) will have a huge effect on this GW.
My big, big, big hope is for a Suarez super-show vs Toon. No one in my ML has him and surprisingly few on here seem to have held him since his DGW.

    Doos if you are around.

Today has made up my mind. Even without Holt, Fulham were unab;e to keep Norwich out and coceded a soft goal (via a needless deflection that took it away from Schwarzer for the 2nd home game in a row) De Gea is coming in this week. I no longer trust Fulham and Mings has bad fixtures right now.

It's getting the balance right. To have 9 players you would have to take a minimum of 2 hits and have two FT's for GW34 if you field 11 in GW34 that is.

Don't agree with that. There's not exactly the greatest options especially when you consider Chelsea rotation if they're still in the cups.

just have a feeling Mata will tear Wigan a new one (as long as he doesnt get injured wednesday) and Walcott may choke against Man City?

not prepared to jump on the torres bandwagon......just yet 😉

as for the 5 DGW players, i cant really justify getting anyone in from liverpool, im keeping Demps for the DGW as trips to Liverpool and Everton must surely reap some reward!!

    Ok Tot fixtures:

    GW 34 blank, GW 35, @qpr

Is short term worth to sell Bale? Even I will loose 0.6m on him it doesn't mind actually. I will bring him back for the double and will have Ade for the QPR game.

Bale to Walcott on the cards according to me. Thoughts"?

      I would sell someone else.

      Walcott's next fixtures is City.

Bale is my captain for tomorrow, as fancy him to do well.

In fairness I can see that Hart is a big expense as couldn't work out how you had your team value, but low money in midfield (your team is very similar to mine overall).

I personally am getting in Walcott for Mata after Mata plays Wigan week.

Looks ok to me, I am going to get Sess in for Clint in 34 and have 11 out, then Sess is out for Ryo for DDGW. Reina has a double in 36, but given your other keeper is Sorensen it may be neccessary. Though maybe after today Tommy will be back in?

I know I mentioned the DGW in my original post :p Can never completely rule him out scoring or doing something but definitely feel their are better options in the form of Theo and other DGW players. Fulham usually poor away from home and they have Everton and Liverpool away (both tough) so thinking its gonna be a 4 pointer for him.

When I saw your big analyzes of the expensive defenders I thought that u'll go Evra or maybe Baines. I never thought that u gonna pick Bad K. Bringing player straight back from injury is always risky. Well Moses was at home and Siggy away to Tot. Not smart move according to me, Too bad I wasn't here while (I hope) u were asking about that transfer

Well lads, I've decided will play 10 players in GW 34. I don't see any must own striker besides RVP and Rooney for that week.

    Thinking of:

    Vorm
    Caulker, Verm, Jevans
    Walcott, Sess, Siggy, Valencia
    RVP C, Rooney

That is more than decent 10 men according to me

Me again (I am in form :D) but:

Is sound to have Liv defender for the double?

    Fixtures: West Brom (H)
    28 Apr Gameweek 36 Norwich (A)
    01 May Gameweek 36 Fulham (H)
    06 May Gameweek 37 Chelsea (H)
    13 May Gameweek 38 Swansea (A)

I don't know why but I prefer some other defenders instead of Skrtel and some attacking players from Liv like Gerrard. What are everybody doing with Liv defenders?

Keeping one of them and benching Skrtel in GW34. Their fixtures are just too good to get rid of especially when they have a double and Agger returning soon.
