From desperation comes inspiration. If, as Sir Alex intimated, Roberto Mancini’s decision to allow Carlos Tevez back into the fold at Man City really was a last-ditch attempt to revive fortunes, there’s little doubt that it’s had the desired affect. Ferguson will be fidgeting uncomfortably having watched Tevez almost single handedly turn City back into a goal machine in the last two matches, knowing that they’re on a collision course on April 30.

For Fantasy managers, today’s hat-trick, capped with a cheeky assist for the revived Sergio Aguero, offered a stark reminder of the scoring power that Tevez brings. He started the season as a 12.0 player in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game, having fired 21 goals and six assists last term – Tevez was and still is a Fantasy heavy-hitter.

Norwich felt the full force this afternoon as the Argentine inspired City, having re-ignited Mancini’s side in midweek in the 4-0 win over West Brom. Suddenly, having recently struggled for a cutting edge, particularly away from home, City are a free flowing attacking force once again. Aguero’s brace of goals today were his first league strikes away from the Etihad since that win at Old Trafford. With four in two matches, he’s now firmly back on the radar and could upset what looked like an established front three template of Van Persie/Rooney/Cisse for the remaining Gameweeks.

Arguably Tevez makes a bigger claim for our attention. We took a punt on him over Aguero in the Scout Picks having seen his statistics and form in his recent cameos and knowing his quality home and away. Tevez has come back and, once again, looked like scoring and setting up goals: today that came to fruition.

The Fantasy prospects of both Tevez and Aguero now, ironically, rest with United and the title race. A slip against Villa tomorrow looks unlikely but with City flexing their muscles in such intimidating style, the pressure on United has increased. Realistically, City will go to a beleaguered Wolves next weekend hoping that a stubborn Everton side can recover from today’s FA Cup disappointment and provide an awkward obstacle at Old Trafford. Then it’s all down to the clash at the Etihad that follows.

City need to stay in touch for Fantasy managers to invest with confidence – to sacrifice a double Gameweek transfer for either Tevez or Aguero for the Gameweek 36 trip to Molineux would be a brave move – a break from the best laid plans. However, as today demonstrated, Aguero’s form has moved up a gear and the talent of Tevez looks to have been the catalyst. Together they could yet play a major part in our Fantasy seasons and a title race which appears to be far from over.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Very correct Doos. I want them to lose the FA so he can't use the "well we won the FA cup" as an excuse for a very poor season under his management. I know I'm a United fan but I like a bit of contest with Liverpool, it's not the same with City or Chelsea or Arsenal. Would hate to see them slip further.

    So,

Rooney, Sessegnon & Valencia ➡ Tevez, Dempsey & Ben Arfa -4pts

    Vorm(bol)
    Evans(EVE) • Simpson(STO) • Turner(avl)
    Sigurdsson(bol) • Walcott(CHE) • Dempsey(WIG) • Bale(qpr)
    RVP(CHE) • Tevez(wol) • Cisse(STO)

    Subs: Sorenson(new) • Ben Arfa(sto) • Vermaelen(CHE) • Caulker(bol)

With the armband on either Dempsey or Tevez and i'm unsure as to whether I should start Vermaelen over Turner.

I wouldn't worry about gaining team value at this stage unless money is very tight. At least leave it until the gameweek is over.

looks good Parm. I have made my plan I think, a 4 pointer this, and next with no Huth (can play Caulker instead)

for me no point in taking a hit to get Barfa in and not play him.

      Thoughts on mine

Fredel/Mongolet (can't decide who to start)

      Evans, Kolarov, Verm

      Exactly the same front 7

      Santon, Caulker, McCLean

If this helps anyone, the other night I had a very vivid dream that I was on a sort of international space station (not the actual current one, but a bigger one in the near future), but something was going catastrophically wrong with it, and we were all going to die. Well, Clint Dempsey was one of the astronauts and I think I was relying on him to save the day... but by the time I woke up, the day hadn't been saved, there was just an extended period of horror i.e. weird hissing noises from things which shouldn't have been hissing and a hatch which wouldn't shut properly. So you could look at this in one of two ways: Clint Dempsey is on a doomed space station, and is also doomed; or, Clint Dempsey is on a space station that looks like it is doomed, but he is actually going to save the day.

Had a high value all season I wildcarded at the 1st opportunity available and that kind of set me on my way I did it the season before and it worked out well for me so decided to do it again and worked out well for me again after a really poor start to the season

Yes it was up to 111m by GW18. A combination of selling a number of risers and poor performance meant it stayed around that mark until a few weeks ago (though resale value went up a lot from the players sold). Has gone up to 113m now.

I remember being quite astounded when I heard it earlier this year ... I really don't play the money/value game, as I am afraid it will lead me to make bad choices. Nicely done on your part, though.

I stuck to form players that I wanted in my team. Between GW4 and 13 I went from 1m rank to 6k and 2k by GW18 so playing the money game certainly didn't hurt.

The extra money's been useful. Wouldn't have been able to get Tevez to go with Rooney and RVP last week otherwise.

    Friedel

    Evans, Verm, Kolarov

    Theo, Dempsey, Bale, Siggy

    RvP, Cisse, Tevez (c)

    Mingolet, Santon, Caulker, McClean

    GW36

Kolarov and Tevez to Baines and Ade/Jelavic

    Friedel

    Baines, Caulker, Santon

    McClean, Bale, Dempsey, Siggy

    RvP, Cisse, Ade/Jelavic
