From desperation comes inspiration. If, as Sir Alex intimated, Roberto Mancini’s decision to allow Carlos Tevez back into the fold at Man City really was a last-ditch attempt to revive fortunes, there’s little doubt that it’s had the desired affect. Ferguson will be fidgeting uncomfortably having watched Tevez almost single handedly turn City back into a goal machine in the last two matches, knowing that they’re on a collision course on April 30.

For Fantasy managers, today’s hat-trick, capped with a cheeky assist for the revived Sergio Aguero, offered a stark reminder of the scoring power that Tevez brings. He started the season as a 12.0 player in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game, having fired 21 goals and six assists last term – Tevez was and still is a Fantasy heavy-hitter.

Norwich felt the full force this afternoon as the Argentine inspired City, having re-ignited Mancini’s side in midweek in the 4-0 win over West Brom. Suddenly, having recently struggled for a cutting edge, particularly away from home, City are a free flowing attacking force once again. Aguero’s brace of goals today were his first league strikes away from the Etihad since that win at Old Trafford. With four in two matches, he’s now firmly back on the radar and could upset what looked like an established front three template of Van Persie/Rooney/Cisse for the remaining Gameweeks.

Arguably Tevez makes a bigger claim for our attention. We took a punt on him over Aguero in the Scout Picks having seen his statistics and form in his recent cameos and knowing his quality home and away. Tevez has come back and, once again, looked like scoring and setting up goals: today that came to fruition.

The Fantasy prospects of both Tevez and Aguero now, ironically, rest with United and the title race. A slip against Villa tomorrow looks unlikely but with City flexing their muscles in such intimidating style, the pressure on United has increased. Realistically, City will go to a beleaguered Wolves next weekend hoping that a stubborn Everton side can recover from today’s FA Cup disappointment and provide an awkward obstacle at Old Trafford. Then it’s all down to the clash at the Etihad that follows.

City need to stay in touch for Fantasy managers to invest with confidence – to sacrifice a double Gameweek transfer for either Tevez or Aguero for the Gameweek 36 trip to Molineux would be a brave move – a break from the best laid plans. However, as today demonstrated, Aguero’s form has moved up a gear and the talent of Tevez looks to have been the catalyst. Together they could yet play a major part in our Fantasy seasons and a title race which appears to be far from over.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Am I the only one wondering why so many people on here left players on their bench that are playing? Why would you not field them? It must be annoying to have to wait for monday night to actually get your points

Not really annoying, people can add numbers to other numbers. Plus I think (for some reason) people feel better having big scores coming off the bench. You also get a nice ranking boost once the autosubs are done.

I seem to be the only person in the mates debate (7 of us) who would rather have Messi than Ronaldo.

One of them said if he was the manager of a mid table Prem League team or mid table Serie A side, he'd rather have Ronaldo.

Who would you prefer? For me, Messi is just better. I don't actually feel an explanation is needed to be fair.

Your mates (who's existence is disputed, as Locarno pointed out 😉 ) are idiots. A lot of people like Ronaldo because he uses a lot more fancy moves in his play, needless and superfluous most of the time but it makes him look good. Messi doesn't use tricks unless they will improve his chance of scoring. He is considerably more able and skilled then Ronaldo, we can see that from his accomplishments.

Ronaldo is all about style. Messi is all about substance. In a time where most people would rather style, I'm not surprised. I've had this argument with friends before. I don't even rate Ronaldo as the 2nd best player in the world, or the 3rd for that matter. But he can step over the ball lots and lots. Some people would rather that.

But, in Ronny's defence, he has proven he can produce in a less-than-stellar team.

Messi has always been good, but always on Barca. Even on a good-but-not-world's-best Agentina, Messi's performances suffer.

He is that good. In fact, the team was built around him because he's that good. When he arrived at Barca as a youth player the teams changed their coaching regime. When he was younger over there the focus was on no dribbling and a lot more passing. They tried to get him to stop dribbling and realised that he could take it by most people with ease. So from then on they started teaching their youth squad how to dribble for the first couple of years and then integrated the passing system, all because of Messi.

Ah but Messi isn't given a chance at Argentina because there's a lot of bad blood there. Yeah he needs good players to feed him but that's not a downside. I wouldn't have said either Real or United were less than stellar teams when Ronaldo was there. 😀

But selfishness can damage the team too! Messi is selfish when he knows he'll get the goal. Unselfish when he thinks someone is in a better spot than him. I do like Ronaldo but just don't think he's at that level. The Barca trio of course would be amazing but that's not because I think Messi needs them, it's because they're f**king brilliant players 😀

Not sure Messi outside of Barca would be as good. As said above Ronny is more direct and has proven to be a goal machine even whilst playing for lesser teams. I've a suspicion that Messi's team mates make him appear even better than he undoubtably us. Think Schumacher at Ferrari - 7 world titles - best driver - best team. Wound he have won those titles at Arrows? No. Messi needs to win a World Cup or play for another club to show he's not dependent on his Barca team mates. Maradona did this with club and country...

Ronaldo for me until proven otherwise.

Looks like a good transfer to me. I'm in the same boat with regards to City, but many other people have been without a City forward player for a while and there are other good options out there.

Haha if catching and beating you would get me money it certainly would be, unfortunately no money at stake on that ML though 😀

True, seems like it'd only be a one week punt...just that people below me in that ML may well get Tevez/Aguero in for Rooney to get a differential...plus it could seriously pay off for them! Think I'll see how Rooney performs tomorrow though and go from there!

You would think very little but young players like Weimann, Bannan and Albrighton won't fear going to OT and might have a few ideas going forward. If they just sit in like Fulham and QPR they will get nothing from the game so they need to have a go. I hope they don't though.

They will sit back. Lost leads in the last two games and we're so defensive it's a shame, give these youngsters a chance to have a proper go, young players are too inexperienced to hold onto leads and defend for 90 mins in the PL.

Fratboy, you make a valid point - but put 7 tipsy/drunk people in the same room and common sense doesn't come into play.

Messi, for me the professional. Ronaldo, you see in the news for being a bit of a c*nt and showing off his muscles or underpants on the beach. Messi on the other hand plays his football and then takes his family out for a meal.

But the debate is 'overall' - as in, who would you select as first pick for your team down the football pitch on a Sunday afternoon. For me, it's Messi, whichever way you paint it.

        CL and Spain only?!

He hasn't done it outside Spain because every league is inferior to La Liga except the PL and why would he leave Barcelona for the shit weather over here?

He has bossed the CL in recent years like no player ever has. Ronaldo is a narcissistic metrosexual who is all about himself. Great ability but not a great guy. Messi trumps Ronny every time and even he knows it.

Likeability comes into it whether you agree or not. Especially in a team game where you had two top players you would take the one who would be more team and less me. But personality aside I prefer Messi any day. Scores more goals than Ronaldo, works harder off the ball, better dribbler on the ball, much better to watch.

We can't deny Ronaldo's ability for the long range spectaculars but Messi trumps him in every other way.

Strange how last week the main aim for us was to get in lots of DGW players with very limited transfers to do it, now some of us are contemplating getting in a player who is only playing Utd in the DGW. Shows that you really can't plan too far ahead.

I'm probably benching Ryo. You looking at any Villa players? Weimann interests me.

just discovered Weimann is a striker, can't squeeze him in. I was looking at Agbon, but nothing for him really in last 10

I've tried but I really don't want to lose a space in my squad!

I can see Bogdan being useful.

Villa have decent fixtures, but we have the same problems

I went for Begovic a few weeks back since he's cheap and has two home games. Stoke have been shocking lately but meh, it's a good punt IMO. Has two very nice last fixtures too.

am tempted to raise my budget and get Friedel, he seems a better option.

I think Mark will be watching the Arsenal game through the gaps in his fingers.

RVP. But no more Arsenal.. And at his dizzy heights I'm sure most have more bearing in mind the limited options of this gameweek.

Would very much enjoy Ade and Bale getting some good points from QPR next GW 🙂

Didn't know they had the internet in Wigan? Bizarre.

(Yes I'm still annoyed about the last game.)

          Touchy 😀

You can make it up and smash Villa tomorrow, though.

I thought I had a good week but seems my Aguero points have been cancelled by a lack of Swansea or even WBA defence. If it wasn't for Dyer I'd be much closer on a 22point deficit. As it turns out, looks like its level still with only Verm to help me and he will be in better shape for the double. Not good.

He even lucked out with Naughton (yes Naughton!) not playing for Norwich as by getting 0 he actually did OK!

As for next week I'm not doing any transfers but have absolutely no idea who to bench out of the entire squad. McClean I guess, but after that? Not a scooby. The rival will have two Newcastle defenders so I may have to chance it and hope Stoke and bench Santon, I need to catch a lead.
