With just four weeks of the season left, desperation is starting to kick in. In Wigan’s case, that desperation seems to have spurred them on to go all out and produce their best football of the season, but for many Fantasy managers battling the odds in their own (equally important) leagues, that desperation needs a huge dollop of luck to go with it. A 50 point gap is not unassailable yet, but picking the same players from the same teams just won’t cut it; it’s time to wheel out the previously unthinkable, the outrageously risky and the downright unexpected…

David Dunn

There’s no greater motivator than the threat of relegation, and after watching Wigan and QPR pick up some unexpected points recently, Blackburn will be scrambling to turn around their fortunes in a similar fashion. Norwich rock up to Ewood Park this weekend having already secured their premier league status, and fellow strugglers Wigan visit two weeks later – the feeling is that it is probably now or never for Steve Kean’s men and the likes of Yakubu, Hoilett and David Dunn will all be instrumental if they are to pull off a great escape.

Fantasy football veterans will be more than familiar with Dunn’s frustratingly inconsistent returns. Capable of pulling off a bumper haul if you catch him in a burst of form, the downside is the succession of niggling injuries that seem to plague the 32-year-old. With just four matches remaining, however, Dunn seems to be coming into form at just the right time and at his price of 6.2 and 0.2% ownership, we reckon the tricky midfielder is worth a punt despite the risks.

Tomas Rosicky

Arsenal’s Renaissance man Tomas Rosicky epitomises the recent revival in his club’s fortunes; after spending 20 months out with a tendon problem, it was feared that Rosicky would never return to the same level but the Czech schemer has been back to his glorious best in recent games. As Arsenal’s best player against Wigan, Rosicky would probably have been a shoo-in for this weekend’s tie anyway, but with Mikel Arteta ruled out for the season and Yossi Benayoun ineligible to play against his parent club then he will surely be nailed on for the central role.

Chelsea will arrive at the Emirates just three days after a draining Champions league tie spent chasing the ball around their own half, and despite the recent resurgence under their new manager, Arsenal look like strong favourites to pick up the points. Another eight goal thriller would be a bit much to ask for, but if goals do arrive then Rosicky could prove to be huge differential considering his current price of 5.7, and low ownership of 1.2%.

Stephen Ireland

Villa can perhaps be forgiven their poor form considering their recent opponents, but this week is a huge test – Sunderland and Bolton park up at Villa Park having conceded 14 and 11 goals in their last five away games, and despite Villa recent impotence in front of goal, you have to fancy them to pick up at least a couple across the two games.

As the first name on the City team sheet (and many Fantasy football managers too) during the 08/09 season, Stephen Ireland’s decline has been pretty spectacular, scraping together just 555 minutes of play last season without a single goal or assist. The potential is always there however, and with a regular starting role in his preferred position behind the striker, he looks the pick of the Villa players right now considering his low price of just 5.2.

Cant decide who to sub if I get B.Arfa in.
Dont particularly want to lose RVP or Rooney for Tevez/Aguero, lets hope they have a quiet one then!!!

Why are people so obsessed with getting in Bale for the DGW? Spurs are dreadful at the mo, wouldn't touch their players with a barge pole. Much prefer Everton/Newcastle options.

It is true that I recently benched Bale at home to Norwich (and it didn't bite me), so in a sense not a natural candidate for a dgwer. Even so, I may get him back - ditched him for Sess last week.

When it comes to Fantasy Football, I find it very strange how the same situation can often be argued as a justification of two opposing strategies.

For example, I have seen quite a few people say they have a comfortable ML lead so don’t need to gamble on taking Roo/Rvp out for Aguero/Tevez but at the same time I have seen others say the complete opposite, the comfortable ML lead is precisely why one should take this gamble ie for fun and to get up the ranks quicker...

Soooo does my 129 point lead in my ML mean…
    a) I can afford not to gamble on Tevez and Aguero. I can play safe with Rooney\RVP.
    OR
    b) I should gamble on moving up the ranks as I have little to fear ML wise. Have fun and punt on the City strikers.

Such a lack of concencus on this one 🙂

Depends on how feckwitted your main rivals are.
For example, my main rival sold three DGW players last week (Mata, Walker, Cisse) for a 4pt hit.
He ended up with a miserable 42pts.

For those who bought a City striker for the likes of RVP/Rooney I would say there is more for them to lose this weekend than those that resisted as most will still have RVP/Rooney and it means they will have one less DGWer.

I agree. Just saying that everyone expects City to destroy Wolves and it is expected. If Tevez or Aguero don't live up to those expectations however then I imagine it will be a bitter blow for those that bought them in when a DGWer could have been an option.

I guess that depends you think will win that match. I guess if it were a draw then you could also argue that it was a sideways transfer so you'd have to back a City win there in your case.

Getting rid of rooney instead of RVP, but the question on my mind is…
    Tevez or aguero?

tevez – not gauranteed a start or to play the whole game. Hungry for goals since his last 5 months out. still happy with the hatrick last week though

aguero – on penalties, most likely play the whole game, and is hungry to match up with tevez, but not sure he is consistent enough to risk it.

also, my opponent this coming GW has aguero in and will most likely captain him...which to chose?

    Thoughts? Advice?

Don't get a City striker. Your best differential is to spend the FT on a DGW player next week. Rooney will do you proud.

im dumping rooney because he has tough fixtures all the rest of the season, where RVP has good fixtures coming up. Also im only bringing in a city striker for this game, then switching him out for adebayor next GW anyway(ive already stacked up on double GW players)

lots of people getting tevez in, could easily get a hat trick if he starts, but one thing worries me.
As wolves is such an easy game, will mancini have the 'possible title decider' with man u next week in mind?? Will he feel city can easily get the three points without tevez, play dzeko, resting tevez and preserving him for the united game.

      Thoughts???
