No goals from open play in seven league starts. Thatโ€™s a statistic which, a couple of months ago, would seem improbable of a player of the stature of Robin Van Persie. It looked like heโ€™d run and run until the end of the season; that Arsenalโ€™s skipper had successfully broken Fantasy football and made a slot in our squads his own, with the captainโ€™s armband soldered to his bicep.

Todayโ€™s blank in the stifling 0-0 with Chelsea at the Emirates was the latest setback for those clinging to Van Persie, in the hope that heโ€™ll recapture the stunning form which saw him reach essential status. Certainly thereโ€™s been no let up in goal threat from Arsenalโ€™s talisman. Today, Van Persie fired in seven efforts on goal โ€“ more than any other player in the Gameweek thus far โ€“ it was his most threatening display since Gameweek 18. Reassurance in numbers form โ€“ but is it enough?

Such statistics would indicate that his army of Fantasy owners, and those who skippered him yet again, were unfortunate to pocket just a single point after the Dutchman earned his seventh booking of the season. As Arsene Wenger commented in his post-match conference, Van Persie gave everything but, like his owners, he just got nothing back.

The question is, where do we go from here? A total of 74,000 net transfers out last week, already Van Persie is being shipped by thousands. Clearly thereโ€™s a tide turning against him as patience wears thin. Although fixtures against Stoke, Norwich and West Brom would suggest that Arsenal and Van Persie still have goals left to score.

Todayโ€™s injury to Theo Walcott wonโ€™t help acquire them โ€“ Van Persie will now have to do without his supply from the right flank for the remaining matches. However, that also deprives Arsene Wenger of the option of shifting Walcott to a central role and carrying out the unthinkable act of resting his skipper โ€“ even with 50 games in the tank. While Arsenal still have something to play for, Van Persie will surely start and, with those opponents, logic and statistics suggest that the goal drought surely cannot continue.

Itโ€™s getting tougher to hang on to such arguments, though. With Papiss Cisse maintaining a frightening and improbable scoring rate, itโ€™s almost as if the power has shifted. Like the goal mojo took a train to Tyneside, leaving the weary Dutchman searching for the knack, whilst Cisse went about feasting. Double Gameweek offerings will be the next to tempt us to pull the chord on the Van Persie ejector seat: the nagging doubts are building.

Todayโ€™s harsh lesson will surely see the armband kept from Van Persie when he rolls up at Stoke. A notorious setting, Wenger wonโ€™t relish taking his men to the Britannia and the majority will expect Van Persieโ€™s dry spell to be extended. Those who press the button prior to Gameweek will cling to the fact that the Gunners rarely enjoy their encounters with the muscular Potters who, at their best, can be formidable in front of their bellowing fans. It all points to another blank for the goalscorer supreme. I can almost see Tony Pulis, furiously waving a green flag for those now pondering disposing of Van Persieโ€™s talents.

Personally, Iโ€™m not sure I want to take Tony’s advice: I never trust a man in a baseball cap. Iโ€™m not turning my back on Robin, not yet. Maybe Iโ€™ll sleep on it. Maybe, once Wayne Rooney has done his thing against Everton, once City have torn up Wolves โ€“ maybe then theyโ€™ll be enough to convince me that itโ€™s time to give it up.

Right now it feels wrong. The good times are still too fresh in the mind. Even if part of me is watching my season whimper out along with Van Persieโ€™s, heโ€™s saved me so often, it’s almost as if I feel I owe to him to remain faithful.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

In the Arsenal game Kosc, Verm & Sturridge are the favourites. RVP with 3 on 4 off is an outside chance but unlikely.

29 (-4pts) with Kolarov (Enrique sub), Silva, Tevez (C), Petrov, Given, Jevans & Valencia to play.

The only thing I'm not happy about with this GW is not having the balls to sell RVP as well as Walcott.

Seems a low avg is lurking this week.. Mark and Granville both captaining RVP for a total of 2pts must hurt.

Im currently on 30 with Tevez(C), Kompany, and Evans to play. Hope Carlito can pull through!

    Now having this MF

    Dempsey - Bale - Sess - Siggy - Valencia

Quite certain to bench Valencia this week. The question is .. Should I change Sess or Siggy who have good fixtures with any DGW players?

On my list : VDV , Pienaar , BArfa , Cabaye , Mata , Lampard

Will you pick anyone ahead of Siggy and Sess?

      a) Turner & Rooney -> BAE & Adebayor (no hit)
      b) Sessegnon & Rooney -> Adebayor & VDV (no hit)
      b) Turner, Sessegnon & Rooney -> BAE, Mata & Adebayor (4 point hit)

Assuming Verm 3 & Cisse 2 baps, he needs 10 points from Aguero to draw. Very possible, considering it's Wolves.

Think I'll just be getting VDV & Ade in this week. They probably need to win every game now to get CL so I expect them to really go for it. Even if they don't do great in the DGW they have 2 decent fixtures in GW37 and 38.

Yes spurs are defo the way to go but their form is shocking. I got ade in a couple of gw ago. What a let down so far. Vdv is tempting me as everyone has bale. I am finding it tough at min as ml rivals are predictable which is why I kept vp and did not get in man city. I wanted to but the ml winner gets £800 and I am winning.

Good call on Cisse(c). I still recall posting his home game stats and then noticed your post above mine with him as (c).

I chickened out and opted for Rooney(c). LOL

Well so far so good for me 36pts,Rooney(c) to play, 2 free trades, no Spurs players to stress about.

ML rival did (c) Cisse though. ๐Ÿ˜•

LOL, yeah I told you I didn't have the balls to go for Citeh(c) as ML was my main target.

I'm pissed I didn't though especially as lead is cut down to 10pts pre bonus with rival going Cisse(c).

Upside is Spurs are falling apart at the moment and I have more time and 2 trades to decide on BAE/Ade.

Your captain will come good for you. Has to.

Cheers, it was always between him and Dempsey for me - both have ridiculous home form. Rooney was a close 3rd as he's on fire too and Fergie won't want to have to get a result in the MCY derby.

I was feeling very smug about my Walcott -> Bale trade after Wally came off on 59mins, but it only resulted in 1 extra point!

Who you planning on bringing in this week then? Surely at least 1 spud?

My team now.. Waiting for Sunday game to finish and conclude the plan.

    *Schwarzer (Vorm)
*BAE - *Simpson - Vermaelen (Turner Evans)
    *Dempsey - *Bale - Siggy - Sess - (Valencia)
    Aguero - Rooney - RvP

    Now thinking.
1: Get Cisse or Ade or Jelly or 2 of 3 .. More to Cisse as in form and to protect the lead. My closest rival is toon army fan who will triple NUFC players in the double. Also, who should I sell? People jumped from RvP ship but I feel the need for him on Gw37.

2: Get Pienaar or VdV .. Spurs was so poor.. ๐Ÿ™

3: Get anyone from Chelsea .. Cahill?

    Any thoughts?

I'd sell Sess as he is not producing. I think Sund have put the cues away!
It's hard but there are tough calls to be made re front three. Who would you most like to have play this wk? Who would u miss most for GW 37 and 38?

      1. Yep go Cisse and poss Jelly but not sure about Ade. I have him but will get rid as I don't trust his game time, not to mention team form.
      2. Peanut sounds good but wait to see result of todays game. VDV is a good shout but again game time questionable. Do u want two Tot players who may get subbed off both games with 1 pt each?
      3. I actually think Cahill is worth a punt. Been impressed w Chelski def... though wait until there is news about Luiz injury. Go Terry if you can afford. Mata if you feel lucky?!

I agree about Sess.. Sunderland has nothing to play for now. They will play Bolton who still in fighting and difficult fixtures on last 2 gws. I think he's the one to leave my team this week for one more DGW MF. I will observe Everton tonight to see Pienaar and also Jelavic.

Ade and VdV are class, but slump in form.. There's a risk which I'm seriously doubt if its worth to gamble. I will surely have Cisse to match my rival and might bring VdV in as differential if Pienaar doesn't impress me today.

Btw, will Terry be nailed on for dgw? He's been playing with some injuries. If Luiz is confirmed out for a while, I might go Cahill.
