Among the eight teams to play twice during Gameweek 36, Stoke are by far the least prolific in terms of attacking potential. Having netted just 32 times thus far, Tony Pulis’ side sit firmly at the foot of the “Goals Scored” table with four matches left to play.

It is a statistic that will hardly fill Fantasy managers with confidence as they eye up the Potters ahead of the upcoming double Gameweek, but a closer look at Stoke’s home and away record shows there is still hope among their red and white striped ranks.

The Prospects

Home clashes during Gameweek 36, against an Arsenal team looking to secure third spot and a resurgent Everton, are not the easiest games on paper. The key aspect here, though, is not the opposition but the fact that Pulis’ side play both their games at the Britannia. Stoke’s poor goal tally can largely be put down to their woeful away record – of their 32 goals, 21 have been in front of their home fans, as have six of their nine clean sheets.

Arsenal are also enduring something of a slump, giving investors in Stoke’s ranks further hope. Arsene Wenger’s side have won just two of their last five matches and in Gameweek 35 were left frustrated during a 0-0 draw against a patched up Chelsea team with one eye on this week’s Champions League semi-final clash with Barcelona. With Robin Van Persie scoring only once in his last seven, hopes of a clean sheet for Stoke against the Gunners are perhaps better than previously anticipated, although their strikers may face a tough time – Arsenal have returned five clean sheets in their last seven matches.

Stoke defenders face a far sterner test against Everton, who are quite simply rampant in front of goal right now, scoring 14 in their last five matches. During this recent run, the Toffees have also managed to keep three clean sheets but have shipped six goals, giving the Potters’ attackers a sliver of hope.

The Likely Lads

With nine goals to his name thus far, the 6.1 priced Peter Crouch is Stoke’s main attacking threat. Five of those have come at home, including his goal of the season strike against Manchester City in Gameweek 30. With four assists and 14 bonus points this season he offers the chance of further points over the two games – it’s also worth noting that Crouch has scored in three of his last four at the Britannia.

Elsewhere in midfield, Stoke’s tricky wingers – Matthew Etherington and Jermaine Pennant, with six assists each, are also worth considering. Etherington, at 6.5, with three goals and 15 bonus points, is perhaps the more consistent of the pair, though Pennant, who is priced at 5.6, has been in decent form of late, providing an assist in three of his last four appearances. If he shake off the virus that forced him to remain on the bench for last week’s trip to Newcastle, he could produce.

Stoke’s defence is perhaps where the shrewdest Fantasy managers will cast their gaze and, in particular, the attacking strength offered by 5.6 priced Robert Huth. The German has been in solid form of late, scoring in two of his last three games and also picking up four bonus, for an average of seven points per game – all this without a clean sheet in that run of matches. Ryan Shawcross, who has a 5.3 price tag, is another to consider. The Potters’ skipper seems more likely to earn bonus points – he has 13 compared to Huth’s seven.

Among Premier League goalkeepers, the risk of rotation perhaps hangs heaviest over Stoke’s. Currently Asmir Begovic is the main contender but Thomas Sorenson is always looming in the wings, with Tony Pulis having a track record of showing no mercy at switching his options between the posts if the form drops. Despite this threat, the 4.5m priced Begovic, with 81 points and five bonus points remains the best Stoke purchase between the sticks. The fact that the Bosnian has started the last nine offers a little more confidence for his Fantasy suitors.

Cheeky Punt

There was a time earlier this season when Stoke’s penalty-taking forward Jon Walters was an almost essential pick, due to his listing in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) as a midfielder. The Irishman has fallen by the wayside over the last few months, though – with the last of his five goals coming in Gameweek 19, it’s something of an understatement to say Walters is woefully out of form. Despite this, his spot kick duties plus his five assists, 10 bonus points and 6.0 price tag cannot be completely dismissed.

There have been a few points this season where RVP's form has been questioned and he has always come back with goals.

I personally can see RVP scoring more points than most DGW candidates. I'm not saying he will as there's always a danger of the dreaded 2pts but I certainly wouldn't bench/sell him.

I am keeping. He hasn't been playing badly in recent weeks, just not getting the breaks (you could say the law of averages has been evening things out a bit!). I can't ignore the next three Arsenal games, and having already lost Walcott I don't want to be without Arsenal coverage for the run in - so Persie stays!

Fulham's games aren't easy. No-one gets much at Goodison Park and even with Pool's form, you wouldn't choose Anfield as a place to get goals. Lots of peeps have Dempsey already and doubling up on Fulham with those fixtures doesn't seem very profitable when there are other DGW strikers like Cisse and Jelavic

Rooney and RvP both have the potential to score, as we all know. Being as you've already got 3 Newcastle though there isn't any DGW strikers worth it really. Adebayor might not play for Spurs again so there aren't any options.

Stick with what you have or go with a punt on someone like Crouch. I'd keep what you have though.

Like i said on the previous page, hopefully it'll give us the kick up our ass to get the players that do care to salvage our season now that the club aren't pretending nothing was wrong.

In the games we've got left, Defoe and vDV up front should be enough. That said, i still don't think we'll get CL.

Defoe and VdV just doesn't work. Defoe just doesn't work at all in our system until the game is stretched near the end.
What is the point in having 2 wingers and Defoe in the middle? Our best chances vs. QPR came from Bale headers which shows a lot.

42 goals in 34 suggests they aren't typically this prolific.
I know they've hit a run of form in front of goal but I wouldn't bank on double Everton attackers.

i have a feeling that people are running scared this week.

Rooney > Aguero/Tevez burned people in GW35 so they're not chancing RvP > DGW striker. not even contemplating that move. no way, no how.

it kind of makes sense as Robin could hit some form against a dodgy STO side.

however, STO are at home and each GW is independent so if you think that Jelavic or Cisse will give a bigger return over the two games then then you should still consider those moves.

This is very true, no doubt there will be snide comments such as "just like Tevez last week" in regards to replacement players points prospects for this weekend. Its best to ignore all the bitter comments and go with your gut here. Its a whole new gameweek and there are double fixtures involved this time around increasing the chances of a successful week.

      Morning!

I've decided to keep RVP. Back in GW4-6 everyone was moaning about RVP being out of form and no-one wanted him. I stuck by him and made him captain most weeks and it was the best move of the season for me.

I know this time it's different and his 'bad form' has been going on for longer, but this is RVP we're talking about. He's a goal machine.

I wouldn't captain him this week because of the DGW players I have but there's no way I'm selling/benching him.

A necessary risk? Probably but more of a "there are other better risks to pick from".

Not for me. How many times have we seen relegated teams turn on the form after the trap door has opened. A win for the Swans is not as nailed on as people think.

Only reason it popped into my head was due to watching MOTD and seeing them absolutely batter Bolton and come away with a draw. But yeah, completely agree its an unnecessary risk...

Should I get rid of Ade? for a hit.

Tough one.....I would wait and see if he's out of both games first!

      Didn't hear the news?

FFS - "The Mail reports that Adebayor could be "frozen out" at Spurs following a training ground dispute with Redknapp."

Thats what I heard.....hence why I would wait if I was planning to transfer Ade In/Out!

        Two things about that.

        1) "could"
        2) "Mail"

And hence, a doubt... for those looking to get Adebayor. Might wanna wait it out and plan again.

If he plays both games in the double and gets loads of points, I'd say you should have kept him.

If he doesn't do anything you definitely should have got rid.

      Hope this helps!

        Much better Thanks 🙂

If it helps it would be Cisse in.

I'd monitor the news, but if it seems he's unlikely to play, I'd do it. Cisse in is unlikely to be a terrible move whatever happens.

There is almost no point in discussing this until the pressers on Friday. Redknapp could still be a cagey git and not say anything in which case you have a judgment call to make but he could well say this is all bull and that Ade is fit. It's not like the question won't be asked now.

From experience, report like this always ends up the player involved get benched.

Folk are concerned about rotation. I am giving serious consideration to Mata over VDV and Bale, but am waiting on the outcome of tonights game before I make a decision.

It's weird, i'd probably have Mata over vDV if he was guaranteed to start both games but i consider vDV a (c) choice but not the former.

Chelsea have 4 games in 13 days - there will be so much rotation. It's very hard to pick a player who will definitely play both DGW games.
