Fulham have been an entertainingly unpredictable outfit under Martin Jol; cheerfully disposed to inflict or endure a spanking, then tight and combative when one least expects it. Feast, famine and light lunch have jostled inconclusively for supremacy for much of the season, but with three wins and a draw from their last four, the Cottagers’ Fantasy assets are currently filling their boots.

The Prospects

With trips to Anfield and Goodison Park on the agenda, Fulham haven’t been blessed with the most appetising double Gameweek menu, but a visit from goal-shy Sunderland in Gameweek 37 promises a decent dessert. The Cottagers’ defence has outperformed its reputation on the road this season: a haul of just two away clean sheets is an uncharitable reflection on the fourth best away defence in the Premier League. With Everton and Liverpool lying 14th and 16th respectively when it comes to goals scored at home, Martin Jol’s men may yet set the record straight.

In terms of offensive output, a two goal per game average over the last four gives Fantasy managers plenty to work with when the returns are concentrated in the hands of a narrow attacking aristocracy. No clean sheets in six for Liverpool suggests potential for points at Anfield, though Goodison Park may prove a tougher test of the Fulham vanguard.

THE LIKELY LADS

It’s been a tidy, business-as-usual season for Mark Schwarzer. The Australian is already perched above the 100 point mark for a sixth consecutive season, despite an eight gameweek layoff over Christmas, and, at 4.8, it is perhaps only Fulham’s haphazard away record that has robbed him of a respectable following this year.

Powering ahead of his defensive contemporaries on 104 points is everyone’s favourite Norwegian left-back, John Arne Riise. Yet to score this season despite enjoying a fair slice of the set piece pie, two assists and two bonus points in his last three appearances demonstrate a healthy breadth to his attacking appeal. At 5.7 he isn’t cheap, but he offers the Fantasy manager a bit of everything, and with a left foot that could kick start the Large Hadron Collider, goalless seasons are rare for Riise.

Our other mid-priced offering from the Fulham defence is the redoubtable Brede Hangelaand. A prolific threat last season with six Premier League goals, the centre half is enduring an unaccountably impoverished campaign. Initially priced at 6.5 on the back last season’s six-goal scoring spree, his now reduced tag of 6.0 may yet feel a bit steep, but if he can mimic the goalscoring resurgence of his chart topping contemporary from last season, Robert Huth, he would represent good value at that price.

Philippe Senderos (4.1) and Stephen Kelly (4.0) are your budget backline options. Senderos offered us a timely reminder of his goal threat with a well taken header on his return from injury last week, but if the the comparatively innocuous Kelly can shake off a wrist injury, the Irishman might be the safer bet in terms of pitch time.

From humble budget beginnings, Clint Dempsey has slowly but surely clawed his way to the very top. Once a cheap differential punt, Fulham’s American import is now a bona-fide, handprint on FPL boulevarde, A-lister. Twenty points clear at the top of the midfield charts, and behind only Robin Van Persie and Wayne Rooney in the overall rankings, Dempsey is having the season of his career. Averaging more than 10 points-per-game over his last four appearances, and with 16 goals and seven assists already to his name, a double digit valuation next term seems on the cards for a player currently at 9.5 and climbing. Accruing the majority of his horde at home, 15 points away at Bolton three weeks ago served as a concise demolition of suggestions that his heroics are confined to Craven Cottage.

Out of the side at times this season, Damien Duff now seems to have nailed down his spot out wide, returning a very respectable one goal, two assists and five bonus points in the last four gameweeks. With Clint Dempsey holding down the headlines, the quiet productivity of Duff has been bathed in comparative anonymity, which for Fantasy managers can be useful. Averaging more than eight points-per-game over his last four at a price of just 6.1, Duff offers a whopping discount of 3.4 over Dempsey, and, at just 1.2% ownership, he has all the makings of a cracking late-season differential if he can maintain his current form.

Pavel Pogrebnyak‘s fifteen minutes of FPL fame was a white knuckle rollercoaster ride. Initially priced at 6.0 following his January move from VfB Stuttgart, he shot up to 6.4 on the back of five goals in three games, only to slip all the way back to 5.2 before Mark and Paul Merson had worked out how to pronounce his name. Scoring on his return to the side last week after an ankle problem, Pogrebnyak should retain his place for the double Gameweek, and looks good value for those Fantasy managers prepared to play fast and loose and with their valuable striker spots.

CHEEKY PUNT

His penalties are paragons of poetic perfection, his distribution a symphony of sensible sobriety, so why is Danny Murphy, The Putney Pele, no longer guaranteed a starting role at Fulham? Has Martin Jol signed Messi? Murphy’s masterly midfield play has long served as the beating heart of the Fulham family, but the rise in Jol’s estimation of the combative Mahamadou Diarra has, astonishingly, rendered their club captain surplus to requirements on occasion in recent months. Although he has started three out of the last four games, he hasn’t completed 90 minutes since February, but with spot-kicks and a share of set-pieces in the bag, at a price of 6.0, The Craven Cruyff may yet be the man to sound the starting klaxon to a late mini-league surge.

Resisted thus far, but I'm coming down with the itchy point hitting trigger finger syndrome.

Any hits worthwhile for this team?

5.4m in the bank, but no freebies left. Was planning on P Cisse -> Rooney next week, but wondering if it’s better to use the funds this week, take a hit and bring in a decent DGWer?

    BOGDAN
    SKRTEL, Caulker, Turner

    Krul (Vorm)
Enrique - Hibbert - Caulker (Vermaelen - Evans)
Dempsey - Valencia - Pienaar - Sigurdsson (McClean)
    RVP - Aguero - Cisse

    0FT, 5.6 in bank

Team look ok for the DGW? Debating a -4 to get HBA in for McClean, or Rooney in for RVP.

Nice one, Chin, I'd forgotten about Danny Rose.. there must be quite a strong chance he'll get a few starts if so. Should be interesting.

Turned the CL game off after 90 as i just wasnt getting into it. Must bw spoilt from watching the Chelsea game! Plan was to turn back on for the pens but forgot.

Could have sworn Chelsea would be up against Mourinho.. obviously not meant to be.

It's his lack of clean sheets recently that worries me Ajay. But 3 home games in 4, look good, it's that trip to QPR in 37 that worries me and I'd have to play him over Caulker or Santon.

    Sigurdsson - Bale - Dempsey - McClean
    RVP - Cisse - Rooney

    1.5m in bank and 2 FT's

Well it was hard to predict this happening, it's not as if Newcastle were thinking at the start of the year "we need 3rd because Chelsea are going to win the CL but finish 5th" were they?

I can see both ends of the Argument, it would be a shame to not have the winners of the cup the previous year in it, but then again if they didn't finish in the top 4 they don't really deserve to be in it, regardless of winning it the previous year.

Newcastle finished 4th and deserve a go, be unlucky for them to miss out.

        * all hypothetical here, and i don't see Chelsea winning it anyway but i do see Newcastle getting 4th.

In all fairness, Premier League teams should count theirselves lucky that as much as 4 English teams get places anyway. The winner of the cup should always take priority over the lowest placed team in a European spot in the league. They have to defend their title.

It might seem harsh if they weren't allowed in, but that's the rules and they will have known that beforehand.

I mildly disagree with this. I think the winners should always be allowed to defend their trophy.

It's not as though finishing 4th in your national league is a stellar achievement, whereas winning the CL is.

Just unlucky that that could happen to Newcastle this year and miss out where as most years this wouldn't even be an issue, not saying Chelsea don't deserve to be in it if they win it, because that's fair enough, would just feel sorry for Newcastle having to miss out.

It could be argued that Chelsea have pretty much sacrificed 4th place by going for the Champion's League crown.

But aye, I would love to see Newcastle get a Champ's League place. But I also think it will actually be Spurs who take it.

Its going to be close, Newcastle do have some tough fixtures but i think they can get a result against Chelsea. Don't see Spurs winning all there games, i do see them dropping points somewhere along the line playing 3 teams fighting for relegation in the next 3 games + there not in the best form. Chelsea could still get 4 place too but Newcastle for me.

Tbh I hate how the European Cup has turned into such a money spinner, milking every penny they can.

It's the CHAMPIONS league. It should have exclusive participation to CHAMPIONS as it used to be - Not the cup of 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th depending on which domestic league you play in.

Certainly a valid argument but everything in football is about money now. Sure I'm convinced that a huge number of players would pack it in if the pay wasn't so incredibly good.

That's true, I wouldn't like for Newcastle to lose their place because it isn't fair. The only way I'll be happy with it is if Torres actually scores another winner (yes I do like him as a player and maintain he's a good one too.) If that doesn't happen, then come on Bayern!

    Hello all..

Need a little input on Keeper + Defence combinations.

    Pick one of:

Cech (Cahill and Luiz injured, Ivanovic suspended). Friedel (Kaboul and BAE injured). Howard. Schwarzer and Vorm....AND any DGW to go with the above keeper, preferably not doubling up.

I've got Simpson as Newcastle Cover.

I like this DGW.. there are no obvious players everyone feels are "must haves". With only Everton and Newcastle showing form, it's interesting that they're the teams from which the most popular players are being discussed.

Wouldn't be a total surprise if they flop and the likes of Adebayor score well. Could well be worth having a few DGW players outside of the norm.

Could also well be worth focusing more attention to the good fixtures and teams in form than the DGW teams. Still haven't started planning transfers but not many DGWers (that I don't already have) appeal to me.

Hey guys. Which two DGW players would you pick from:

    Jelavic, Torres, VdV, Dempsey

I already have Bale, and my frontline is RVP/Rooney/Aguero.

    Thanks!

Any of those 4 could be good picks.. no-one can argue right from wrong before the event. Just depends on which squad players you still want around for gw 37 and 38.

For what it's worth, I've brought in VDV and Torres for Walcott and RVP. VDV because he's in form and i don't think he'll be rotated seeing ad there aren't many Spurs players in form right now, and Torres because Chelsea are on a roll, good home fixtures and Drogba should be saved for the FA Cup final. Torres' goal only strengthens the pick.

Thanks for the advice. I'm leaning this way as well, but I've been burnt by Torres before.

There's also no doubting Jelavic has the form but it's still Everton. Not sure I'm ready to trust them either.

            Caulker, #Enrique, #Hibbert
            #VdV, #Ben Arfa, #Bale, Siggy, #Petrov
            #Jelavic, RvP

            Gibbs, Evans, Rooney

Hopefully ditching Aguero this week doesn't bite me. Thoughts?

Evening all - need some assistance please, stressful stuff! I really dislike takin hits but some of these may make sense. Currently have the below team and have zero freebies left.

I think my team is decent as is, but feel I may need to get some Everton/VDV action.....down by like 15 points from leader and we have pretty much the same team previous to this week. I just brought in Bale for my FT. My Defense has some very bad matchups come 37/38...so that's the only reason im leaning towards getting Hibbert in. I guess I can always work on defense next week. What's best option though for rest of the way. Thanks all and good luck!

    Considering doing the following:
    A. Aguero/Sess to VDV/JELAVIC for -8
    B. Sess to Pienaar for -4
    C. Sess/Caulker to Pienaar/Hibbert for -8
    D. Keep team as is
    E. Other?

    KRUL
    JOSE ENRIQUE; SIMPSON; Caulker
    BALE; DEMPSEY; Sess; Siggy
    CISSE; RvP; Aguero

    Bench:
    Evans, Valencia, Lescott, Vorm

Why is Chelsea's top scoring striker not getting any love? Surely nailed on to start league games and while he hasn't replicated his early season form, he's only 6.5m and worthy of a punt.

Chelsea have hardly been in great form since Christmas and it is no surprise that Sturridge's output has been reduced by their poor results.

I'm talking myself into him more and more.

Clearly, since no one else here will talk you into him. Poor output, not as much game time, competition for place, may not have as much of a role in RDM's team are a few reasons why there are better options.

You don't think it might be a week early to be dumping McClean? You're right that they are finding it hard to score of late but Bolton at home is a great chance to change that.

Was looking at Kompany > Terry maybe for a 4 point hit and then playing him instead of Vermaelen?

It might be a week early but Sunderland have been sterile for ages. I also fancy Bolton to turn up. Your plan is also a decent one though. I'd consider an 8-pointer in your position I think. (The last time I had good vibes about VDV I brought him for a 15-pointer.)

I'll be going hits crazy this week. My season's screwed and giving myself a few differentials is my best chance of winning the two leagues I'm still contending in.

Sounds like you're doing well so you'll possibly want to be more conservative.

Yeah back-to-back 0-0's isn't great is it, but even then McClean has picked up bonus points in both games. He's been a great pick for me for a while now so may give him one more GW, perhaps he might even stay for the season as at his price i've no problem leaving him benched.

I've had a couple of decent runs with VDV. Brought him in for the game against us at Ewood earlier this season, but with Bale already i'm not sure it's wise. Spurs are awful at the moment.

I'm doing good this season, was after a top 1k finish and that should be in the bag now barring any last minute disasters. http://fantasy.premierleague.com/entry/1566/event-history/35/

Chelsea have to fancy being able to beat QPR without him and absolutely cannot afford to bring him back too soon and lose him again. It wouldn't surprise me to see him play no part at all, bar maybe a little run out as sub against Newcastle. Chelsea can play Ivan and EBJT for the Newcastle game.
