Fulham have been an entertainingly unpredictable outfit under Martin Jol; cheerfully disposed to inflict or endure a spanking, then tight and combative when one least expects it. Feast, famine and light lunch have jostled inconclusively for supremacy for much of the season, but with three wins and a draw from their last four, the Cottagers’ Fantasy assets are currently filling their boots.

The Prospects

With trips to Anfield and Goodison Park on the agenda, Fulham haven’t been blessed with the most appetising double Gameweek menu, but a visit from goal-shy Sunderland in Gameweek 37 promises a decent dessert. The Cottagers’ defence has outperformed its reputation on the road this season: a haul of just two away clean sheets is an uncharitable reflection on the fourth best away defence in the Premier League. With Everton and Liverpool lying 14th and 16th respectively when it comes to goals scored at home, Martin Jol’s men may yet set the record straight.

In terms of offensive output, a two goal per game average over the last four gives Fantasy managers plenty to work with when the returns are concentrated in the hands of a narrow attacking aristocracy. No clean sheets in six for Liverpool suggests potential for points at Anfield, though Goodison Park may prove a tougher test of the Fulham vanguard.

THE LIKELY LADS

It’s been a tidy, business-as-usual season for Mark Schwarzer. The Australian is already perched above the 100 point mark for a sixth consecutive season, despite an eight gameweek layoff over Christmas, and, at 4.8, it is perhaps only Fulham’s haphazard away record that has robbed him of a respectable following this year.

Powering ahead of his defensive contemporaries on 104 points is everyone’s favourite Norwegian left-back, John Arne Riise. Yet to score this season despite enjoying a fair slice of the set piece pie, two assists and two bonus points in his last three appearances demonstrate a healthy breadth to his attacking appeal. At 5.7 he isn’t cheap, but he offers the Fantasy manager a bit of everything, and with a left foot that could kick start the Large Hadron Collider, goalless seasons are rare for Riise.

Our other mid-priced offering from the Fulham defence is the redoubtable Brede Hangelaand. A prolific threat last season with six Premier League goals, the centre half is enduring an unaccountably impoverished campaign. Initially priced at 6.5 on the back last season’s six-goal scoring spree, his now reduced tag of 6.0 may yet feel a bit steep, but if he can mimic the goalscoring resurgence of his chart topping contemporary from last season, Robert Huth, he would represent good value at that price.

Philippe Senderos (4.1) and Stephen Kelly (4.0) are your budget backline options. Senderos offered us a timely reminder of his goal threat with a well taken header on his return from injury last week, but if the the comparatively innocuous Kelly can shake off a wrist injury, the Irishman might be the safer bet in terms of pitch time.

From humble budget beginnings, Clint Dempsey has slowly but surely clawed his way to the very top. Once a cheap differential punt, Fulham’s American import is now a bona-fide, handprint on FPL boulevarde, A-lister. Twenty points clear at the top of the midfield charts, and behind only Robin Van Persie and Wayne Rooney in the overall rankings, Dempsey is having the season of his career. Averaging more than 10 points-per-game over his last four appearances, and with 16 goals and seven assists already to his name, a double digit valuation next term seems on the cards for a player currently at 9.5 and climbing. Accruing the majority of his horde at home, 15 points away at Bolton three weeks ago served as a concise demolition of suggestions that his heroics are confined to Craven Cottage.

Out of the side at times this season, Damien Duff now seems to have nailed down his spot out wide, returning a very respectable one goal, two assists and five bonus points in the last four gameweeks. With Clint Dempsey holding down the headlines, the quiet productivity of Duff has been bathed in comparative anonymity, which for Fantasy managers can be useful. Averaging more than eight points-per-game over his last four at a price of just 6.1, Duff offers a whopping discount of 3.4 over Dempsey, and, at just 1.2% ownership, he has all the makings of a cracking late-season differential if he can maintain his current form.

Pavel Pogrebnyak‘s fifteen minutes of FPL fame was a white knuckle rollercoaster ride. Initially priced at 6.0 following his January move from VfB Stuttgart, he shot up to 6.4 on the back of five goals in three games, only to slip all the way back to 5.2 before Mark and Paul Merson had worked out how to pronounce his name. Scoring on his return to the side last week after an ankle problem, Pogrebnyak should retain his place for the double Gameweek, and looks good value for those Fantasy managers prepared to play fast and loose and with their valuable striker spots.

CHEEKY PUNT

His penalties are paragons of poetic perfection, his distribution a symphony of sensible sobriety, so why is Danny Murphy, The Putney Pele, no longer guaranteed a starting role at Fulham? Has Martin Jol signed Messi? Murphy’s masterly midfield play has long served as the beating heart of the Fulham family, but the rise in Jol’s estimation of the combative Mahamadou Diarra has, astonishingly, rendered their club captain surplus to requirements on occasion in recent months. Although he has started three out of the last four games, he hasn’t completed 90 minutes since February, but with spot-kicks and a share of set-pieces in the bag, at a price of 6.0, The Craven Cruyff may yet be the man to sound the starting klaxon to a late mini-league surge.

Seeing as Mata was off the pitch way before the end, I’m surprised no-one else is going for the little man…Two home games, plus he’s been rested in prior league games. I see him weaving some magic. Anyone else in with me?

Do it! I've done it. I've also had the ol' (C) hovering over his head for a while...Then I spaz out, and put it back on Bale. My beautiful Lilly Whites surely have to start winning again, don't they? Also, this news just in: Newcastle will stumble over the DGW. Cabaye should do alright, but Cisse's boat has sailed.

      You talk a good game.

My concern is that he's crucial to Chelsea's hopes in two cup finals, so might be protected over the course of two games in one gameweek. And that Chelsea as a whole might take their foot off the gas, for that Mata.

As a mata of fact, I think he will play the next two because they will want the security of maximum points over these home games. At least that's what I'm hoping...Also, Mata is probably the only player I vaguely like in that team. Torress has sweet rosey cheeks too, I guess...

Got last post on previous page, will try again! Any thoughts on this?

Been hanging on to Ade for this long, and now he goes and gets his panties in a twist, throws a tantrum and wont get to play!? Madness.

Ade->Jelavic for a hit? Seems idiotic to transfer out a dgw:er but I dont like that yellow flag. Was going to take a hit and get VDV and a defender in anywho, chasing a 50pt gap. Thoughts?

    Current team:

    SIMPSON Rangel Taiwo
    DEMPSEY PIENAAR BALE Siggy
    CISSE ADE SUAREZ

    Sorensen Rafael Evans Valencia

Very tempted to bring in Mata & Terry this week, both for hits.

Turner & Valencia -> Terry & Mata worth an 8 point hit? Would mean benching one of Siggy or RVP this week...

    BOGDAN, (Mignolet)
    SKRTEL, Caulker, Turner, (Kompany), (JEvans)
    DEMPSEY, BALE, VDV, Siggy, (Valencia)
    P CISSE, JELAVIC, Rvp

    Bank 5.4m

It also means I can't do Cisse -> Rooney next week, but instead I could do Siggy -> Moses.

2 home games, CHE on form with 4th place to play for, Mata probably their best source of points from midfield and I'd say he'll get minutes given recent rests he's had. Valencia may also get rested next week if MUN win this week.

You think Valencia will get rested? Hmm..
Good point though, I definitely agree that he is their best fpl option going forward just think with two home games the back line will be the safest option for points. Just a thought though!

Yes to Mata, no to Terry - he's such a dick!

However, your team would like nice if you did it. However, getting rid of the Siggster...Hmmm...Don't think I'd do that especially with the Swans playing Wolves.

I've got Bogdan, but I also have Vorm. Who would you play?

Terry is a douche, but he's nailed on to start both imo and he offers a decent attacking threat. He'll also be out to make amends for his red against Barca.

I'm actually tempted to just do Turner -> Terry as Valencia would be good for next week, and it means I can still play Siggy and RVP this week.

Bogdan vs Vorm. Tricky. I'd say Bogdan purely cause he has 2 games. Even with any CS he's likely to get 4-6 points as a minimum, and if they manage 1 cleanie then there's no chance Vorm will beat him. Also, with the pressure off maybe Wolves will go all out to please the fans with uber attacking performances?

This is an agonizingly slow build up to the dgw. Need some general advice as there's a lot of money on the line.

I'm 23 points ahead of my only real minileague threat. I feel if I can get out the other side of the dgw with a similar margin it's just a case of playing down the minutes til the end of the season.

Our teams are similar, I've the slight edge in that I have Petrov to his Miyaichi, I've McClean he has Sess, and he sold Rooney for Aguero pre everton I kept him, but we have roughly the same defensive cover etc (I was particularly happy with my BAE differential until recent news). He seems pretty set on Jelavic now, along with probably dempsey/pienaar/vdv, who I don't have, add Aguero to that list he could catch up any week.

My question really is do I spend a few points trying to mimic his team or save the point hits and try see it through with the team I have? Which is safer
    Thanks in advance!

And it depends on how you want to play the game. If you want to be one of those guys who copies someone else's team to keep the lead that's no problem (makes the game boring though) or you can see it out with a bit of excitement the way it's supposed to be. I'd say play your own game but then again it depends on the money at stake.

A lot of pride at stake too. I gloat enough when things go my way, so if he were to win in the end it would be unbearable for the next 12 months. He won last year by a healthy margin of 280 points, finishing with an overall rank of 374 on his first ever season. This is why i cannot let him win

Hmmm well I'd say only take point hits on players you actually think will do well this week. The downside to taking hits trying and trying to predict the players he'll bring in is it can really screw you over! So if you're 100% sure that he's bringing in Jelavic and you think it's a good move then go for it. If you aren't sure about Demps/Pienaar/VDV then either save the transfer or bring in the one that you want most.

That's the problem with dgws, balancing investment. If the dgw flops and you've over-invested it blows up in your face but at least everyone else has similar worries. Under-invest in a profitable dgw and your rank plummets.
              Thanks for the advice

Any time! It's a tough situation to be in, kind of why I avoid mini leagues with mates unless they're just for a laugh, I always find that I lose focus of my main goal which is to get a good overall rank (not happening this season but I can start planning for next 🙂 )

Ha 😀 I think the opposite! The drive to outperform specific people keeps it interesting for me and my rank benefits. Last year the league was over and with nothing to play for I lost focus and made a load of stupid risks and poor decisions I finished ~140k. I'm currently on my highest ever rank because of what's at stake!

I reckon spend some points getting the most awesome team you can for this gw. You can afford at least 8, probably 12, and still maintain a lead, and then completely rub his face in it when you land a super dgw haul.

You can invest in building this model team.

A lot will say to keep RVP. I'm not so sure. I think Arsenal are tired and VP in particular is exhausted. It's very difficult to take him out but sometimes it might pay off. I don't really know what you should do, I just don't know how amazing VP will be this week (cue 17 goals and 900 assists.)

In my opinion suarez not worth it for valuable striker positions, liverpool are too inconsistent.
Though they're playing against two teams who's defensive records aren't the best.

Costs a quid to enter. You select one team to win every week. If they draw or lose you're eliminated. You're not allowed select the same team twice. The pool is £2,000 and it's probably only got 2 or 3 weeks left to run.

Seems the obvious move to go for Swansea. But I figure a lot of the remaining 18 will do similar so i'm half considering doing Chelsea or Sunderland and then hoping Wolves pull off a draw.

          Good point
Plus Sunderland have MUN and ful I can't see them getting 3points anywhere there expecially if they can't score, fulham are on a roll and united won't concede after SAF's hairdryer treatment
Bolton on the other hand are leaky, but are in a relegation scrap.
Then you have to use swans against either United or Liverpool. Liverpool seems like the easier option and Swans are at home
My advice: Sunderland (BOL) then Chelsea (liv) then Swansea (LIV)
Gotta hope liverpool's current form continues til the end of the season

Anyone think that winning the FA Cup will be the least of Chelsea's priorities?

I feel that RDM will field his strongest team in the DGW and then hope to establish a good lead so that they can sub some of their keys players on the 60th-70th minute mark if needs be.

Chelsea need CL football next season and I feel that finishing fourth in the league will take importance in the coming weeks. They have a great chance in the CL final no doubt but they wouldn't want to take any chances.

No doubt Chelsea will focus on the league in the short term and will put everything they can into it. It still wouldn't surprise me to see them rotate the whole squad as they did the other week. RDM has shown that he is prepared to use everyone to keep players fresh.

^^^This. Still Chelsea have done well with everything seemingly against them. Should be a good contest.

Just watched replay again.....was an unbelievable performance.

Not sure which broadcast you received but Gary Neville screaming like a little girl after Torres' goal has been on the Canadian tele/radio all day. Everyone here is goofing on him.

I have tried to find another angle on the Torres goal.....(not that it matters, but how did Torres remain on-side?).

Only seen it briefly, but I think he was in his own half.
