Just one result, but today’s outcome at the Emirates couldn’t have set up the season climax any better.

In many ways the 3-3 draw typified the season for Arsenal. Robin Van Persie again delivered – his brace of goals taking him to 30 this term – an outstanding return for a player who, for the first time, has enjoyed a Premier League season uninterrupted by injury. But, once again, the Dutchman’s efforts weren’t enough, as the Gunners slipped to a late equaliser and were left frustrated by another spirited Norwich display.

Arsenal now sit just two points ahead of Spurs and Newcastle in third – leaving the door ajar for the pursuing pair, making their meetings with Villa and City all the more crucial.

It’s beautifully poised. While those without Van Persie will have been perturbed by only his second double figure return in ten Gameweeks, the result does at least ensure that Spurs and Newcastle will go into Sunday’s games buoyed by the opportunity presented them. Those who placed their armband on the Dutchman will settle down tomorrow with the comfort of a twenty-point cushion. Those who looked to Wayne Rooney will at least have renewed hope that Newcastle will go at City, perhaps setting up a Old Trafford goal fest just a few hours later. Arsenal’s role in this scenario was perhaps a minor one, but their failure to earn a victory has undoubtedly added further incentive for Alan Pardew’s men, making City’s path to the title that little bit more treacherous.

It also ensures that the battle for third will go to the end. Regardless of how Spurs and Newcastle fare on Sunday, both will go into Gameweek 38 contesting for the precious Champions League places. The Gunners will need to win at West Brom, similarly Spurs and Newcastle will have extra motivation to earn three points against Fulham and Everton respectively.

For Fantasy managers, that’s a dream scenario. With our squads full of assets from both clubs following the double Gameweek, we can now be content that the likes of Gareth Bale, Rafael Van der Vaart and Papiss Cisse will be fully motivated to the final whistle.

Then there’s Van Persie. He’ll go to the Hawthorns looking to push his side over the line – one last effort from a player who has undoubtedly emerged as this season’s star asset. Once done, we’re then reliant on Arsene Wenger’s ability to retain his services.

Arsenal’s failings ensured that our season went to the last – we can only wonder if they’ll also bring an end to Van Persie’s career at the Emirates.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I didn't end up getting Roon because it would have been at the expense of Ade. Also I thought that the Utd points could be spread around... Nani/ Val/ Young/ Chico/ Rooney.

I see what you mean. But Rooney's home form is immense, he's on penalties and he's been playing further up the pitch recently. With Welbeck gone he's bound to play as a more forward striker as Hernandez can't hold up the play. Rooney is bound to be involved in every goal and as an assist is only 1pt less than a goal for a striker, i thought he was a pretty good punt 🙂

After rvp (c) 20 points today, I have now increased my lead over my cash league rival to 83 points. However he still has Rooney (c) to play along with a few differentials in pienaar and Moses.

You'd think he's always been rubbish hearing most of the abuse he's received, a lot of people seem to have forgotten how he bullied some of the best defenders while leading the line for Newcastle last season. He hasn't been managed very well I think, Liverpool should be a bigger threat than they have been under Dalglish but I don't know how the management will change any time soon.

a good pre season and a bit more confidence could see carroll getting back to his best. They were saying earlier that maybe his transfer fee didn't help him. maybe too much pressure. the same could be said for nando but he did have an injury as well. Lucas was also a huge miss for liverpool this season.

What were peoples worst decisions this year? For me it was when getting the unlimited transfers for gameweek 2 and taking out Rooney and Silva for Torres and Nzogbia

Same for me. Gw2 so brought in torres and (c) him. Fooking gutted.

Having Dempsey in my January wildcard until 11:29 and then taking him out for Silva who then proceeded to score 2 whilst Dempsey score 20.

      - took out rooney after gw1 too and never got him back again
      - used my wildcard to sell RvP for Aguero in GW10 when RvP went mad against Chelsea, worst wild card ever
      - stubbornly didn't get Cisse

My indecisions were my undoing all season as opposed to my bad decisions. For example, not having Papiss or Deuce until last week hurt my rank week in, week out. Also, got on the Bale bandwagon after he had returned most his points. I've been pretty lucky this season that they are my worst decisions. Very lucky in fact.

too many mistakes early on and then spent a lot of transfers chasing differentials which didn't come off. also wasn't keen to go with swansea and newcaste players who lapped up defensive points early on.

i think i chased points too much early on when a steady approach would have made more sense as there was still a long way to go and loads of points to play for. lassons learned hopefully

I believe that form is better than fixtures and this is proven to be accurate for the short term at least

I hope so. The season wouldn't feel like it ended properly without one.
