This evening’s couple of Group D clashes brought the curtain down Matchday 1 and affords Fantasy managers the chance to reassess their captaincy options ahead of the next four days’ worth of fixtures. Many will be wielding wildcards, while others will bring a more patient approach as we roll out the Captain Poll for Day 1 of Matchday 2:

Croatia’s Mario Mandzukic and Russia’s Alan Dzagoev were the top scorers in the first batch of matches, returning 13 points each after both bagged a brace against Republic of Ireland and Czech Republic respectively.

Dzagoev is handed the chance to continue his form as Russia square up to Poland in tomorrow’s evening kick-off. Roman Shirokov and Andrei Arshavin all picked up points from Dick Advocaat’s starting XI in the 4-1 win and will also be under consideration for the armband, while Roman Pavlyuchenko’s goal and assist contribution from the bench will perhaps cast doubts over Aleksandr Kerzhakov’s starting role, after the latter missed seven chances to find the net last Friday.

For the co-hosts, Robert Lewandowski will be looking to get amongst the goals once again, after notching in Poland’s opening day clash with Greece. Jakub Blaszczykowski provided an assist against the Greeks and will be in the mix, while Ludovic Obraniak’s set-piece duties perhaps boost his chance s of returns.

Elsewhere in Group A, the Czech Republic will perhaps be reliant on the likes of Vaclav Pilar and Jaroslav Plasil to pick up the points again. The former notched his side’s consolation in the Russia defeat, while Plasil bagged an assist after providing seven goalscoring opportunities. Tomas Rosicky’s role in the hole and Milan Baros’ place as the lone forward in a 4-2-3-1 system will also afford the pair a chance to impress.

For Greece, Dimitris Salpingidis’ contribution from the bench in the Poland game may well see him start. A 45 minute second half appearance harvested a goal, with a point also picked up for earning a penalty. Theofanis Gekas and Giorgos Samaras should maintain their roles in the front three, with the creativity of Giorgos Karagounis always liable to provide a spark for Fernando Santos’ side.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Anyone thought of taking a punt on Bendtner? Portugal will be way more open at the back against the Danes and Nicky B has scored in all four of his appearances against the Portuguese.

Still in the hunt for R800 ML...13pts adrift....got to go big this round and gamble.

P -offed with Ibra last night...could have had another 2 goals...Would have had ML lead and my 33/1 bet might have been safe.

Nasri looked far more dangerous imo.. Ribery was'nt takin shots on goal like his usual self and made the same amount of key passes(or 1 more) than nasri.. Ribery still a good option of course, but nasri surely deserves the attention he's gettin

It depends what happens in Germ/Holl fix. If Holl lose then they are gone and I'm not interested. That would possibly lead to Ozil/Gomez being rotated?

Cr7 to Rvp would make sense. Most I think will only have either a Holl or a Jerry for gw 3.

Hey guys what u think is the best option concerning the Russian mid field?

    a. shirkov
    b. dzagoev
    c. both
    d. neither , although not likely lol

id like them both but feel that wouldnt be the wisest decision. I'd appreciate your thoughts thanks!

I would go for both unless you want a russian striker also. I am thinking of going with Dzagoev and then Ashwin.

No, i dont believe ill be taking a russian striker. im pretty set right now on CR7, benzema, and cassano/lew....do u think there can can be any reasonable downside in taking both?

do you think cassano will get a good amount of game time? Lew against Russia is a tough game to get points in.

i also thought both but dont want to over rely...dzagoev plays in front 3 so i think he must be there.... shirokov only if you are very confident....shirokov is a scorer but what are the odds he will score in back to back games

Same dilemma. If they win, does someone get rested?

I think Poland will be tougher than Czech, plus teams rarely score freely twice in a row in a tournament. So maybe just one of them?

Am i the only one thinking RVP is going to step up just when everyone else is counting him out?
Also, am i the only one thinking of punting on Welbeck?
Not using my wildcard this gameweek. Think i can protect a lead and save it for later.
    Current lot is
    Akinfeev Issakson
    Alba Pisczek Debuchy Maniatis Strinic
    Ozil Ribery Mandzukic Shirokov Afellay
    Lewa RVP Ibra

    Thinking on the lines of
    Ibra -> Welbeck/Cassano
    RVP >CR7

and get more spanish cover in there somehow.

    Ideas?

Get rid of RVP and one of your midfielders/defenders and put in Arbeloa/Pique or Iniesta, probably involve using your wildcard

I'm hoping RVP steps up, but I was thinking Huntelaar could start ahead of him, or at least steal the thunder.
Wellbeck seems good value, but not sure of getting rid of Ibra. He could still get points against England.
I thought Croatia looked good against Ireland, don't think they will be such push overs for Italy, so I'm not sure Cassano would be much improvement from Ibra
CR7 will really really want to score since he came up blank last

I think you should play your wc.

But if you don't want to, RVP->Cr7, Ibra->Welbeck, and Afellay->Fabregas

Not playing because i got a handy 15 point lead in both my leagues.

Falling short of your suggested move by a good 1.5mil
