This evening’s couple of Group D clashes brought the curtain down Matchday 1 and affords Fantasy managers the chance to reassess their captaincy options ahead of the next four days’ worth of fixtures. Many will be wielding wildcards, while others will bring a more patient approach as we roll out the Captain Poll for Day 1 of Matchday 2:

Croatia’s Mario Mandzukic and Russia’s Alan Dzagoev were the top scorers in the first batch of matches, returning 13 points each after both bagged a brace against Republic of Ireland and Czech Republic respectively.

Dzagoev is handed the chance to continue his form as Russia square up to Poland in tomorrow’s evening kick-off. Roman Shirokov and Andrei Arshavin all picked up points from Dick Advocaat’s starting XI in the 4-1 win and will also be under consideration for the armband, while Roman Pavlyuchenko’s goal and assist contribution from the bench will perhaps cast doubts over Aleksandr Kerzhakov’s starting role, after the latter missed seven chances to find the net last Friday.

For the co-hosts, Robert Lewandowski will be looking to get amongst the goals once again, after notching in Poland’s opening day clash with Greece. Jakub Blaszczykowski provided an assist against the Greeks and will be in the mix, while Ludovic Obraniak’s set-piece duties perhaps boost his chance s of returns.

Elsewhere in Group A, the Czech Republic will perhaps be reliant on the likes of Vaclav Pilar and Jaroslav Plasil to pick up the points again. The former notched his side’s consolation in the Russia defeat, while Plasil bagged an assist after providing seven goalscoring opportunities. Tomas Rosicky’s role in the hole and Milan Baros’ place as the lone forward in a 4-2-3-1 system will also afford the pair a chance to impress.

For Greece, Dimitris Salpingidis’ contribution from the bench in the Poland game may well see him start. A 45 minute second half appearance harvested a goal, with a point also picked up for earning a penalty. Theofanis Gekas and Giorgos Samaras should maintain their roles in the front three, with the creativity of Giorgos Karagounis always liable to provide a spark for Fernando Santos’ side.

Two in the first four games get yo banned for the next one. If you only have one after the qf's it is cleared, so you won't miss the final if you get one in the semi

What's the general consensus on Spain's line up against Ireland? Torres to start or will Del Bosque give that honour to someone who can actually score goals - Llorente?

Here's a spanner coming you WC people's ways.

    Don't pick Ozil.

    Reasons:
    1. If Germany play well and win against Holland and Ozil gets involved, he'll be rested GW 3, and you'll have 10.0 wasted on your bench GW 3.
    2. If Germany don't play well against Holland, Ozil scores poorly.
    3. Ozil doesn't really have captaincy potential. For 10.0, you should be looking for someone who offers real captaincy potential. I'd rather captain Dzagoev over Ozil, and I would do it even if they played on the same day.

Get Sneijder, Ribery, Nasri or Iniesta instead who have guaranteed motivation, arguably better fixtures and more potential. Don't get Germany cover for the sake of having German cover.

      Goalies are really short-sighted.

You're WC'ing for two weeks not one. You still have GW 3 to sort out.

Rui Patricio and Tyton are awful for the last GW.

Wouldn't have Arshavin and Shirokov because of the risk of rotation to Arshavin for the last day.

Defense is good though. Hubnik over Selassie for the RBs.

The only attacker I'm considering is Podolski, I thought he looked good the other day. He's still a bit expensive and takes up a striker spot.

I'm not convinced a German Defender is worth it.

How's this looking for WC ?

    Chalkias / Andersen

Debuchy / Perquis / Maggio / Lescott / Gebre Selassie ---> (Or is Hubnik a better choice?)

    Iniesta / Pilař / Shirokov / Young / Sneijder

    Benzema / T. Müller / Cassano

    Sneijder + Muller ?
    OR
    Ozil + Robben ?

    Thank you all !

      Afellay, Kadlec, Kuba to go.

Muller too. Think you can get better for a striker.

Clean sheet doesn't look that likely imo. Greece don't score many goals but whatever it is about them, they seem to always manage to score just one. It's day one though so probably worth a punt

all depends how the Polish defend. If they're leaky at the back, the Russian attackers could have another field day

    Gambino, is Afellay likely start?

Given that Holland need 2 wins, they will not rest players, but Huntelaar seemed top make a difference when he came on, is there a chance he plays up top with RvP wide?
