Italy and Spain both go seeking their first wins in Euro 2012 today after playing out a 1-1 draw in last Sunday’s Group C opener. While Vicente Del Bosque’s side have to wait until later tonight before squaring up to Republic of Ireland, the Italians take on group leaders Croatia in the early kick-off and, as usual, we’ve opened up the Dugout Discussion ahead of the 5pm showdown…

The team news is in already and the lineups are as follows:

Italy XI: Buffon; Bonucci, De Rossi, Chiellini; Maggio, Marchisio, Pirlo, Motta, Giaccherini; Cassano, Balotelli.

Croatia XI: Pletikosa; Srna, Corluka, Schildenfeld, Strinic; Rakitic, Modric, Vukojevic, Perisic; Jelavic, Mandzukic

Cesare Prandelli remains faithful to the XI that started the game against Spain. The 3-5-2 system stays intact, then, with Daniel De Rossi once again kept in defence, while right-back Christian Maggio offers Fantasy managers an out-of-position prospect on the right of the midfield five. Up front, Antonio Cassano and Mario Balotelli keep their places, with Antonio Di Natale set to once again play the role of impact sub.

Slaven Bilic’s side is unchanged from the 3-1 win over Republic of Ireland. Darijo Srna is again at right-back, cut-price Fantasy favourite Ivan Strinic (4.0 in the McDonald’s game) remains at left-back, while Luka Modric will keep the more advanced central midfield role against the Italian’s three-man defence. Unsurprisingly, Nikica Jelavic and Mario Mandzukic maintian their places up front after notching all of the goals against Ireland between them.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Hard luck to the lads in Poznan, I could never blame any them. No sympathy for Trap, he deserves stringing up but to the players and to the fans, well done. Done us proud.

He performed a minor miracle to get us here. Forgive him for not giving McClean a run out. Not sure it would have made much difference anyway. Great man, great manager. Hope he stays on.

Disagree completely IT. Played super defensive against poor teams, there was a major miracle against Russia because they ripped us to shreds but couldn't find the net. Played Doyle and Keane when there were better options, left out Foley for McShane, consistently chose McGeady over McClean and in general prevented us playing any attacking football. Was expecting this from Spain but we could have gotten a result from Croatia. He didn't allow it. That's life.

😀 Fair enough. I disagree of course, I think he knows football better than me and you and just because a gameplan doesn't work doesn't mean there wasn't one. Getting us here was the aim and he achieved it.

Ah sure, we all have might opinions on here 😀 For me, he was so defensive at times that we didn't need to be. You're right, his goal was to get us here but he could have tried in these matches a bit more 😀

Iniesta had a shot saved came out to Silva took 2 of 3 touches, has to be an assist grr:

A player will be credited with a “goal assist” when he delivers/plays the FINAL pass, cross, header or SHOT, which LEADS TO THE GOAL BEING SCORED. This will also apply to set plays (i.e. corner, free kick, throw-in etc.).

You can't say Torres shouldn't have started when he got two goals.

Him starting justifies the decision. I don't have Torres, but you have to admit, those brave enough to gamble on him deserve their points, he could've been left on the bench all game - it was a risk - but it paid off

That has made up for my mate having Fabregas and Torres, I'd told him they wouldn't both start and it was a bad idea, but he pulls it off.

    choice was (SS game)

    Pirlo+Silva both captain

    or

    Cassano+Torres both captain

went with latter, although could have been worse, could have been so much better, all the more annoying when you're only about 40 points off the top.... ugh

Luckily games thick n fast, best 2 players for captains tomorrow in each game? Thinking Benzema and A Young... :S
