Robin Van Persie has this evening delivered a telling statement on his official site that confirms that he will not sign a contract extension at the Emirates, placing his immediate future at Arsenal in serious doubt.

While Van Persie’s contract does not expire until next summer, his statement could well make his situation at the club untenable, with the Gunners’ skipper citing differences in opinion on how the club should progress…

“I personally have had a great season but my goal has been to win trophies with the team and to bring the club back to its glory days. Out of my huge respect for Mr Wenger, the players and the fans I don’t want to go into any details, but unfortunately in this meeting it has again become clear to me that we in many aspects disagree on the way Arsenal FC should move forward.”

Arsenal have followed this up with a statement of their own, indicating that they will look to keep their skipper for the final year of his current contract.

“Robin has one year to run on his current contract and we are confident that he will fulfil his commitments to the Club.”

Despite Arsenal’s best intentions, an array of suitors will be circling, with the aim to seal the signature of the Premier League’s most glittering talent before the August 31 transfer deadline.

For Fantasy managers this is, of course, hugely significant news. After an incredible season, the Dutchman is undoubtedly the red hot property in Fantasy terms but, with the various games preparing to open their doors, we now face weeks of uncertainty surrounding the future of the season’s potential star asset.

Manchester City will, of course, be touted as his likely destination and such a move would have huge repercussions in Fantasy terms, not just on Van Persie’s potential but also that of the likes of Sergio Aguero and Carlos Tevez.

There’s little doubt then that this evening’s news is set to create a huge question mark over our pre-season tinkering and it seems likely that Van Persie is now to be written off as an initial signing, at least until we know more on the outcome of what could be a lengthy transfer saga. With Aguero also potentially affected by City’s pursuit of Van Persie, suddenly our pre-season thinking is turned on its head.

Further meetings with Arsenal’s backroom are promised, with Van Persie set to make statements in the near future. Fantasy managers will wait on those updates with keen anticipation.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Arsenal' statement is pathetic. They are going to let this drag out all summer like Nasri last season. There is no way back for RVP now, the fans have already turned on him. He has to be sold.

Can people really see teams wanting Van Persie this Summer?
A 29 year old player with a history of ridiculous injury problems.
Arsenal will surely want 20 million for a player of his calibre, but who will want to pay this when they can get him on a free next summer?

Why would the clubs who are interested in him wait for a year and then get blown out of the water when City would come in for him. If you want him, now is the time to get him.

Why would he go to Manchester next year, when other teams will pay as high a wage as they're saving money on the transfer itself.
Also, why choose to live in Manchester when he could live in Turin, Barcelona or Milan.. anywhere really.

Of course they will want him but it depends on the price you've got consider that whatever fee Arsenal turn down is for only a year where they then pay his wages and then risk him being injured for most of it and getting nothing.

£20m would be a great bit of buisness for Arsenal given the cirumstances.

Well obviously they'd rather have him now.
For Arsenal a transfer now is the best solution to have a chance to get a decent transfer fee.
But I just don't see the logic in clubs spending huge money when he's so close to the end of his contract, then again, logic seems to have made way for madness in terms of transfers in recent year.s

its an absolute disgust when u consider that He hardly did anything(rathar played) from 2003-2009.. Had 1 and 1/2 great years and He wants to leave..Seems like a very good repayment..

If I was Wenger I would tell him to come for a training session and tell Song to break his ankles and tell him " U can leave now for free"

I try and think about football as just another job it situations like this and you've got to think that if another company which said you would earn recognition and more money came in for you what would you do? Even more so if you know that due to fitness this may be your only chance to reach for this dream.

Forca, Arsenal are still a top team with/without RVP. This is not the 1st star player to leave Arsenal. I think if he goes for 15/20m, that money will be put towards buying another striker. I still think we will finish 3rd/4th.

+1 Until Arse start playing with the big boys they will continue to lose their best players.

Arse with Cesc & RVP would be immense with a little bit more investment. Instead they sell.

In fact Wengers policy of buying untried youngsters is always very fruitful but that doesn't help Robin win trophies now.

If club can't match his current ambitions for trophies at this moment me need s to move on as other wise he will have nowt to show his grandchildren.

We've already made a couple of decent signings and will possible get rid of some deadwood which will possibly finance a couple of players. Surely RVP sees that the club is moving forward?

RVP's goals made and scored resulted in 27 of arsenal's points last season

I think Tevez should be part of any deal with City. Top players have come and gone at arsenal, and wenger has worked miracles at times but they've never been this reliant on one single player imo, huge ask to replace that kind of contribution, don;t see any ready mades to step up either

Every goal that was scored by Van Persie was made by another Arsenal player and every goal that he made was scored by another Arsenal player.

Don't get me wrong, as an Arsenal fan, I loved Van Persie, but we weren't a one-man team with him as our striker any more than we were when Wright was our striker. Strikers score goals because that's their job. We will have other strikers and they will score goals and we will win football matches.

I think that Arsenal should sell him to City. He won't be feeling the love if he does a Flamini and it will lower morale.

Anyhow we still have the world's greatest striker returning from his Sunderland loan, so we should be okay. 😉

He plays behind the striker mostly, and that's where we expect him to play for United, even though he "can" play on the wing like he does for Japan. He's not someone who will take people on and run past them with his pace. He's good at finding space between the lines and ghosting into the box e.t.c unmarked. He's got a good eye for a pass and has great work rate. Great finisher too and will get goals.

My perspective is that you don't win titles because you have a famous name or you earn a lot of money. You win titles because of what you do on the football pitch. Arsenal can and will win titles again.

I prefer Diaby to Arteta. I even prefer Diaby to Wilshere. Diaby is an imperious, silky, midfield genius in the tradition of Patrick Viera.

I tell you, I predict that Diaby will go the whole season without injury, Arsenal will go undefeated and then he'll announce that Wenger lacks ambition and sign for City for double his Arsenal wages.

You'll notice I haven't included the Ox either. That speaks to the Arsenal's strength in depth.

Is it really a great starting 11?

Not one world class player in my eyes.

So RVP didn't do much on the pitch? Arsenal should have broke their pay structure to keep him!

Reports seem to say he won't want the rotation of RM/Barca and would rather Juve or Bayern.
Plus they do have that Villa fella.

Does anyone print off their gameweek history? It is my little ritual every 4th July, well for the last 3yrs. Seriously sad stuff, but otherwise all those stats are lost forever.

Yes I know, to be honest what I hate more is the:

          A.Torres, Gerrard Wilkinson
          B.RVP Ferguson, Evra
          C.Sturridge, Mata, Kompany
          D.Suarez, Young, /...blahhhhhhh
          E.blahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

By the time I'm on B I'm already regretting even reading A.

Tends to die somewhat in the off season. Gives one a chance to, y'know, drink more, or watch more TV. On the downside, it can lead to talking more with the missus.
